Lord Bezos told me that if I made this video, I would be allowed to use the bathroom instead of being forced to piss into a bottle.
On a serious note, I want to thank pretty much everyone for being civil, and Middle-earth Mysteries will be back in a few days.
I'm looking forward to season 2 in the same manner as you and I'm still positive about it, and if season 2 fails spectacularly, at least you are the save haven of perfect Tolkien content 👍👍👍. And will you continue streaming in the future?
Joke's on you though. The Amazon bathroom is just an empty room with a bottle.
Keep those piss bottles! You might have use for them if you ever become a disgruntled employee.
Lord Bezos allows workers to use bathrooms- "Am I not merciful?"
You answered your question in a throw away comment: ‘Get better at writing’. The team that produced season 1 will produce a season 2 of similar quality. If this was a professional team sport the approach would be replace the head coach and trade most of the players.
amen
How can it be saved? By casting it into the fire...
I was thinking....how about no?
And pretending it never happened in the first place?
Toss it into the fires of Mount Doom!
Greetings.
Simple answer : It can´t!
Only way - for me at least - would be; Fire everyone (except John Howe), bring Shippey back as advisor and start from scratch!
This.
Scrap it all!! There is nothing that can redeem it.
I realized I already forgot all of the names for the characters made up by Amazon 😄 Not to say that adding characters is necessarily bad but the character didn't leave much of an impression with me😅
Most everyone is familiar with the phrase, "putting lipstick on a pig..."
The sooner this fan-fiction dumpster-fire is canceled and forgotten the better.
I think they should chuck season one, and write it off as one of the main characters having a bad dream due to eating too many slices of pepperoni pizza before going to bed.
In an ideal world they would do that. Granted in an ideal world, they would’ve respected the lore to begin with and never had this dumpster fire.
I call that a Bobby Ewing! Remember that 80's TV soap Dallas? Back in those days, producers still listened to the concerns of their customers... 🤣
But is pizza canon in Middle-earth?
@@DarthGandalfYT It's no less "canon" than the whole "meteor man" story arch. Maybe pizza can be a Harfoot invention.
@@DarthGandalfYT It's a dish that first appeared in Umbar. The corsairs loved to add all sorts of hallucinogenic spices to it, which they received as tribute from the Haradrim.
As they plundered the coasts of middle earth, they brought this dish and its spices to those regions and taught the slaves they caught there how to make it.
One of those slaves, captured from the coasts near Lond Daer, escaped and returned to his home with the recipe and a few spice plants. From there it went up the Greyflood until it reached the Elves, who fell in love with it.
I just can't see season 2 redeeming Rings of Power because the show developers had done too much damage in its first season.
As a lover of Tolkien's works, I was disappointed by Rings of Power. Somethings, bitterly so. But, like DG, I would rather hope they can fix things, instead of go off the rails worse. And as I understand, part of the condition to getting the rights to this, is they HAVE to make 5 seasons... so to avoid burning bridges with the Estate, they will do so.
So, here's some things I would suggest:
1) Address some of the more grievous errors in lore, as "lies" spread by Morgoth and then Sauron, that the Elves fell for. The Mithril story being one. The Elves' far-too-rapid decline being another.
2) For God's sake, let the Stranger be one of the Blue Wizards. They went East to Rhun, which is his destination. Gandalf explicitly states he does not go there. Gandalf does not belong in the Second Age, there is room for exploration of the 2 unknown Istari who went East, and in some versions ARE correct to the Second Age.
3) Sauron- he did not start innately evil, he wanted order and control, and saw the Valar as allowing chaos. He felt he could better guide things under Melkor, who took a firmer hand. If you're going to "humanize" him, play on that angle- that he DOES know much, and he hates inefficiency and randomness. Things need to be ruled, and he's the one to rule them.
4) Start exploring the Sindar and Nandor NOW. The realms of Thranduil and Lothlorien were already there. Some are Green Elves from Ossiriand, some are Doriath refugees, some never traveled West to begin with. None of those owe allegiance to the Noldor, or to Lindon. Lindon (where Gil-Galad is High King) is where the remaining Noldor, and those of Doriath who chose to keep fighting with Morgoth, went. Thranduil went East and formed a kingdom based on Doriath, so that suggested he 'went his own way' rather than side with the Noldor.
5) Explore Rhun to an extent, to start building up those who become Sauron's servants there (like Kamul).
I wasn't even sure the one dude was Ar-Pharazon until now lol. He has got to come out of the background.
Remember, it was the 19 great Elf-rings. Only after the catastrophic War of the Elves and Sauron did Sauron doll out the 16 he captured to Dwarves and Men to try and cut his losses, as the jig was up with the Elves and there was no fooling them again.
.. to salvage.. just say season 1 was like a vision,a dream, Galadriel had off what “could” happen.. she wakes up.. and then restart it
I was told no one would watch this video so I am watching it out of spite. I am also engaging with the video out of spite. Please keep up the great work Mister Darth Gandalf
One other idea they could play with in a season two is Sauron constantly having somewhat good intentions (at least at first), but having those intentions constantly go off the rails due to his lack of a moral compass, impatience and a desire to get things done in a hurry. Whatever intention he starts outs with always being subverted and destroyed by his nature.
The conflict between Elves and men also has to be properly articulated in the second season. That conflict being that whatever the men of numenor do or how great they become, they can't reach the level of actually being elves. Including obviously their immortality.
One thing to do with Numenor during most of the second season is have them start establishing a colonial empire in middle earth. Have it start out as a very high-minded enterprise, but then shift toward exploitation of the men in middle earth. Something like that can highlight the growing moral divide among the Numenorians.
I generally agree that the plot has to first clean up all the issues related to the creation of the remaining rings. Then they have to move to the one ring being created followed the war with the elves. The end of the season has to have the Numenor people patch over their differences briefly to save the elves and push back Sauron temporarily.
I think the best way to use Galadriel would be to give her a better personality and have her serve as the dramatic "link" between all the different groups of peoples. Use the character to tie the story together rather than to drive the story as the great warrior on the frontlines.
Part 2 video, how to fix Rings of Power.
Start Over.
30 seconds long.
The remaining 15 minutes are cat videos.
I would also liked to see more elven lords like Oropher and Amdír.
I just cannot get past the ludicrous mithril / fading of the elves thing. That is the primary lore shattering for me
I, too, was hugely disappointed in the Rings of Power. I did think that the Adar character had some value, if only they could better explore the nature of orcs from a more philosophical perspective. I think that was beyond the skills of that writing/production team. What they don't understand is that the majority of people who are Tolkien fans are so not because of the cool creatures and battles, but because of the massive scope of that universe and the deeper philosophical and metaphysical issues he grappled with. The latter is why you, @Darth Gandalf, and others like you have channels devoted to Tolkien and why you have respectably sized audiences.
Salvaging is a good term, as this is a shipwreck we are talking about.
1: When salvaging a ship, first rescue the crew: pat them on the back and say it's going to be ok.
2: Save the cargo: there are no sets as it's green screen mostly, so we can use the green screen same way we use the costumes, use them as energy source and burn them
3: Remove the danger/nuisance the wreck causes to other cargo if needed, or use it as a monument to see the errors of our ways.
Where in the text is a young Galadriel described as prideful and arrogant? I read "wisest among the elves of Valinor. Able to best perceive the hearts and intentions of others. "
The writing will never get better. Because Lord of the Rings was written by a professor of linguistics and Anglo-Saxon literature with deep ties to genuine mythology and Nordic folklore and languages, and the Rings of Power was written by two hack protoges of JJ Abrams and Robert Orci whose credits include Star Trek: Beyond and Jungle Cruise.
A well-constructed building requires a solid foundation. Season 1 set the foundation for the show and it was made of quicksand. If they want to try and salvage the show, they would have to start over and we all know they haven't done that.
I hope S2 fails miserably because the sooner it is done permanently, the better.
Sauron should be 'remade' a bit. They could keep him away for a number of episodes, and whenever he reappears it's in a different form than the old human one that in my opinion didn't work at all.
I like that idea.
Recast Sauron every season.
The guy's a shape shifter after all.
It’s been confirmed he will have 2 different forms for this season, his human Halbrand form and his Elven Annatar form or whatever they’ll end up calling it. Halbrand form won’t be THE Sauron.
What they most need to do is replace all the writers. I can live with the lore divergences, but the writing was simply bad. Does anyone know if they actually made major staffing changes?
All I wish for is my boy Gil-Galad gets the portrayal he deserves! For the rest, well I kinda accepted that this show will diverge more and more from established Tolkien canon. I do not think the writers will salvage much. The War of the Elves against Sauron will be a big disappointment since I highly doubt it they will commit the budget for a proper war.
The budget for season 2 is absolutely enormous. The fall of Eregion and the battles in and around it will be depicted.
The other rings may have already been crafted and handed out (done off screen)?
This season 2 opens with Sauron making the orher rings in Mordor...all hell is going to break loose
This is like spitting on a fish.
salvaging is extremely hard because the show is commitee made like the majority of hollywood production nowaday, cue the consequence of marvel.
The best advice to give for season 2 is to follow Tolkien's story, the history he created and try to place as much dialogue in the books into the script. The more this is adhered too the better the adaptation becomes- that's the golden rule for the rest will fall into place.
Case in point: LOTR film trilogy and the Hobbit trilogy. LOTR trilogy was better because they used a lot more of the books' plot and dialogue, while the Hobbit suffered greatly for going far beyond the confines of the Hobbit book; and the first Hobbit film was the best because it followed more closely the source material.
Also don't simplify the politics, geography and concepts because it can do terrible damage to the characters. Consider film-version Denethor. He comes across as uncaring and reckless but in reality, based on the Gondor shown in the films, what could he do? The film version made no mention of Gondor's southern fiefdoms nor did it show the Rammas- the greater outer wall which served as Minas Tirith's first line of defence. I swear to God this simplification forced the screen writers of the LOTR films to change Denethor into a man constantly unhinged, uncaring and filled with grief.
I do understand, that you want to reduce Nories and the Istaries part. But that would make season one worth in hinesight, not better. That would mean, that the time we spend on that threat in season 1 would have been wasted.
The elves hair might be the most infuriating thing in the show, followed by the Harfoots, who just suck in every way.
It will never not be funny to me that they cast a character whose sole description by Tolkien was having lily-white skin with a black actress. It’s emblematic in a way of how much contempt Amazon has for the source material. Fixing this show is like fixing Sauron… you can’t.
This. And that’s why I say it’s doomed because the creators hate Tolkien and all his fans. They don’t care if the show is good or not. It’s all about trying to send a political message.
It's Jewish subversion of the white race
And Darth Gandalf says absolutely nothing about this or any of the other forced diversity. Why?
@@moonlightbtlnThe 'forced' diversity didn't matter. Black elves and Hobbits don't change the overall story. The bad storytelling and messing too much with the lore is what mattered.
@@squamish4244 suspension of disbelief is the most important thing for a show. That is thrown out the window by Amazon. Not calling it out makes him just as bad as they are. Cowardly behavior.
But in all seriousness, you're wrong. The solution isn't to go big, but to go small. And every single studio is failing in this respect. Everyone's trying to make the next "Game of Thrones," but they forget that GoT started small. It started in 2 locations (central to the plot). By the end of Season 1, it was up to 3 locations.
Take, for example, Rings of Power. RoP started with 5 locations. It ended at 7 locations. Consider the also failing Witcher Series. It started with ~7 locations. By the end, it was down to ~4.
You need to start with 1 central character, at 1 central location, and then build the plot from there. You can add on locations later. And "big" characters, too. Game of Thrones, at its most divergent was up to 9 or 10 characters or locations. But that was SEVERAL seasons deep into it.
Season 1: it was all a dream!
I would like Rings of Power to be Good, season one didn't do that, but i believe in giving people enough rope the hang themselves with, so lets measure out the rope and wait to see what they do with it.
I dont have much hope. I dont see how they can make forging the other rings not stupid and Celeborn returning not stupid either. Also the Gandalf storyline has to go absolutely nowhere,or nothing will make sense.
It absolutely cant...
Its too silly as in not funny but childish and nonsensical. Its like if an AI wrote the entire script.
Just accept its a bad show and move on like the rest of us. Its not subjective. Its poor quality. Denial is an option but we all deserve better.
Seriously no mention of how none of the actorm (maybe except Galadriel) fit their characters??
Let us not waste energy on salvaging something already lost.
It can't.
Forget about it....
By negating the entire first season and pretending it never happened. That is literally the only way, at least as far as hard-core Tolkien-ites are concerned. They have mangled it beyond all repair as is.
I like your comments about the character development of Celebrimbor. You’re right; thst character needs more screen time if the audience is to feel the weight of his death.
Good comments overall.
I’m not going to watch the show anymore because it’s veered away from the Tolkien source too much for me. It’s a different story than what’s depicted in the appendices
It can't
The show needs to fix:
Acting
Writing
Sets and costume design the numenor look like party city costumes.
The lore
The plot/direction
The tone, Tolkien is a hopeful romantic and they wrote this as if it’s game of thrones. The speech about killing every single orc was wild. They wrote her like they were writing for Cersei.
Get rid of the hobbits and the wizard. 100% pointless and nothing more than a “look hobbits!” Remember the movies had hobbits.
it cant and it wont be
Jeff Bezos offered an Amazon gift card? I hope you get it.
I like this analysis. I will wait and see what to make of the next *Rings of Power* season, though.
....It can't be
they terker jerbs
I think another pretty big blunder that can't necessarily be fixed at this point is the depiction of the southlands. First of all, boring name. Not Tolkienesque whatsoever. Second, it's just England. Why is it just England. The crossroads of south and east, with a population descended from Morgoth's followers, literally Haradrim, and they're wandering around a misty British countryside with names like Waldreg, Theo, and Bronwyn
It can’t be. Then end.
Hire Tolkien experts to write the season would also be a nice touch and armor that looks like armor would be nice too
The show can’t be salvaged. It’s already deviated much too far from the source material. At this point, the only thing to learn from future seasons is how bad it will get before it’s done.
Heres my plan, the 3 rings created last season are flawed and shatter. This gives Sauron an in to offer helpnto desperate elves. No the rings can be crafted in order
From the beginning - time compression and drastically changing the lore is a really bad idea
The explanation for time comression is flimsy at best - the heroes may really die and a new generation make take their place - look at the Vikings Ragnar Lodbrok dies but his sons took his place and the series continued
The ring of power has huge advantage that there are many immortal (elves) or semi immortal (dwarves) heroes
Second the lore provides sufficient place for creativity and imagination you just have to adhere to a few points like creation of rings 💍 etc
The cinematography was truly amazing and the rest is subpar which is a strange taking into account how much resources showrunneres have in their disposal - i think better to ask AI to generate plot
Why would anyone loose his time by watching something that "can be (perhaps, hopefully, unlikely) salvaged" ?
I unsubscribed from Amazon anyway ....
The southlands no longer exists, and the handful of villagers with pitchforks are useless, so all those characters should just jump in the volcano and die. As you say, the harfoots and Gandolf are irrelevant to the near term numinor mordor story., which is the story that leads to the war of the movie prologue (the obvious point, given the ripped prologue on the show) Then there's the elf dwarf mithril Balrog thing, they already made the elf rings (with suarons help, which makes no sense as they are supposed to be out of his influence) so that story arc is also dead except for setting up why dwarves and elves hate each other in the movies and destroying kaza doom at the wrong time. Galadrial can be salvaged if she has a complete awakening, throws her sword away and vows to become an avatar for healing and peace, becoming what she was in the movies, but I doubt it. The made up adar us getting replaced, sauron actor replaced, basically, there is not much storyline from season one to build on. Oh well.
Get him the likes
Too late to be saved.
It cannot be salvaged. The plot and character choices they chose have ruined any possibility of even an amazing writer fixing the show. You cannot build upon a foundation made of garbage. Amazon should have fired everyone and deleted the episodes long ago. Continuing with it is a waste of money and does damage to their brand and Lord of the Rings.
They should have at least one episode investigating means-tested government policy on how to prevent immortal elven workers from stealing Dunedain fishery jobs.
Bring back Eminem Sauron.
Only way the show can be saved is to have bilbo interupt some drunken hobbit at his 111th birthday telling the story if season 1 only to say thats not how anything went down before proceeding to tell the true good story.
But they care more about their diversity and inclusion than telling us a great story.
Unfortunately I don't think the show runners themselves understand the deeper aspects of Tolkien's work, so how can they express what they themselves don't get.
Answer: by cancelling the show and redoing it from scratch because Season 1 was crime against lore, characterization, dramaturgical 1+1 and world building.
i dont think that anything can salvage this series... except its funeral that is...
I genuinely believe that the show can become good and hope that they have heard the good faith criticism that have been made against season one.
Even if they do, you never know how much meddling is coming from the higher ups.
@@fipseImagine a world where the investors and higher ups stayed in their lane
I said it in the other video, but you can’t not notice that majority of the comments agree that this series should not be done at all by people who don’t understand Tolkien deeply and love and appreciate his worldview. The only reason that Peter Jackson’s first trilogy was so popular was because they largely respected that, even though they didn’t understand everything, and all of the criticism against the original trilogy is focused on precisely on the things that they didn’t understand, so that understanding is critical, and they don’t have it. So no, the current production cannot be salvaged. It could only be rebooted, but, since the modern world itself is at war with Tolkien’s worldview, this is not likely to happen. The powers that be hate western civilization, they hate Christianity, they hate white men (This even includes the white men helping in the war on white men!), and they want a new West subjugated under their global overlordship. so yes, there is a fundamental racism and sexism and other isms that play, but they are not J.R.R. Tolkien’s or his fans’, but rather of these DEI Cultural Revolutionists. Tolkien offered us an escape from this mad world. These people want to prevent that escape, and so, keep dragging modern DEI politics into it.
I actually enjoyed Season 1, so if Season 2 is even better, that's all I need. It's also nice to see an honest, open-minded take on this show on RUclips.
Found the agent of Morgoth and Sauron.
The Elves will take our jobs!!
@@way2tehdawnArent there like Millions of Numenorians and maybe 100k noldor at that time?
@kieferkarpfen6897 theres literally one elf in numenor. Also what kind of job is an elf going to take in numenor and why. The resentment towards elves is over their immortality not the jerbs lmao
@@kieferkarpfen6897 I doubt the late stage Numenorians were interested in "logic".
Getting rid the of the hobbit plot line would be a great start
It isnt salvageable, but I appreciate your reasonable critiques of why the show is bad on its on merits, independent of the IP.
😂😂😂
Make it better by following the lore.
Rings of Power is just such trash and so lazy and also disingenuous towards Tolkien, i don't think its salvagable. Especially not by the same people who created and produced Season 1 in the first place and thought this was in any way, shape or form presentable.
They need to fix Galadriel' s teeth...
It is impossible to sdalvage and you should have known that from the get go. Once the one ring got destroyed the other rings of power slowly became meaningless.
It's irredeemable at this point so the only thing to desire from season 2 is a couple decent scenes. Season 1 letting us see Khazadum, Numenor, the balrog, and the orc designs but that's like 10 minutes tops out of a few hours lol horrible ratio
It can't. All trace of it needs to be eradicated.
The rings of power cannot be saved. They should not be saved.
Do I need to remind AGAIN, that they released this show on the day of the death anniversary of Tolkien?
They released this show on the date of his death with the slogan 'Let the past die, kill it if you have to'
... ... I don't want this show to be saved. It's hateful garbage and deserved to be hated.
nay it cannot. Remember that the true hope of the Fandom lieth in the true and honest love for Tolkien's work and cometh from the true lore. Look to the english laws of public domain if hope ye seek, for only there will the next great chapter of Tolkien's legendarium spring forth from.
The only solution is to erase the first season from existence and start over, with all of the wokeness removed.
Oh bud.... i did watch yesterday's but... in all honesty. I won't even bother to watch this new season. nor will anyone who underwent such travesty. I WILL watch your videos, because you do own a good deal of own sense, but please, do not pressume to think anyone with any brains would be ever so inclined. Continues the travesty so... and so it goes... as long the pedal can be peddled.
Bro just a correction, Gil Galad is definitly not the most important person in ME at that time... and there is no evidence to support this
by this time, hes even asking help from the Numenoreans, who are clearly the biggest and most powerful faction in ME at this time, so I would presume the regent King of Numenor to be so
cheers and keep it up!
The regent king of Numenor is not in ME though. He is literally on an island 1000s of miles away
@@Marc-vk7rl so what? ME is the "earth" outside of Valinor created by the valar... it is what it is
sorry not gonna watch it! just popped in here to say it CANT! cancel it!
Maybe the showmakers couldn't make the show without compressing the storyline since the entire 2nd age was over 3400 years long but they should have done it much more carefully, especially when we take into account that it's 5 seasons long.
I think the late Numenorians shouldn't even have been in the 1st season in the first place because they stepped into history long after Mordor had been established and the rings of power had been crafted.
It seems pretty clear where they have been headed and why the three needed to be crafted first - Sauron will point to the three super weapons the elves have made to try and turn the dwarves and men to his will, furthering the rift setup in season one and using it to justify men and dwarves in taking their own rings.
You're making assumption that those involved into this debacle actually want to salvage this travesty of a show.
White hobbits 😌
Sorry Darth. RoP can't be saved. It's already dead.
It's a lost cause bro. That train is on fire and there ain't no way to put it out.
