The man hisself.
This may be the first video on CAGED that used an F and B (b flat). I’ve always wondered what the heck you do with F and B since it’s not in caged. This helped to unravel that mystery. This is still a mental twister but a great explanation.
Thanks! As for F, B, and all of the chords not in CAGED (F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, F#/Gb, and B) you can do the following.
1. Find the root on the 6th, 5th or 4th string (E, A, D strings)
2. Pick one of the 5 CAGED shapes.
Instead of it being as you say, "a mental twister", just try each of the 5 shapes (no thought involved) until you find one that works for the chord. Let your ears guide you, not your "thinking cap." Very quickly it will work itself out. You'll be able to play it and understand it easily.
Thanks again, and best of luck!
Thanks Mark. You're a great teacher as well as an excellent player.
Thanks Allan!
Well done! This is an important lesson. Kind of you to share the info. Take a bow, Mark!!
Thank you so much!
Mark you are very kind , a gentleman and a scholar and great guitar player too! Thank you very much! 👍😉
My pleasure! Thanks for your kind comment!
Another excellent video with clear process thanks Mark
Thanks!
Mark, can you make a video explaining the concept behind “over” chords (I don’t know the proper term). G/A, B/C, F/A etc. Having trouble figuring out the idea behind these combinations. Thanks for all you do!
Sure. (They're usually call "Slash Chords" BTW.) Sounds like a plan!
@@MarkZabel thank you!
Hmm seems I might have to give CAGED a new try, this looks interesting. PS is the tab link for People Get Ready no longer available, I signed up but nothing happened. That was a great lesson by the way.
Go for it! The tab for "People Get Ready" is still available. My auto-mailer does not re-send it if you already received the link for all the tabs. (Note: You get about 50 tabs with the link - "People Get Ready" is one of them.) I do this because I don't want to spam people. You sign up once for the tabs (most of them) and that's that.
However, if you haven't kept the link, send me an email (see my About page) and I'll send it to you again.
@@MarkZabel Thanks for getting back Mark. I don't recall having previously asking for the link but I guess I must have but no worries I just tried again with another email address I now use for music related stuff and the link worked fine. A great channel by the way.
Awersum. 🙂🙂🙂
Thanks Embree!
Thanks
No problem
I think I need two weeks just for the C shape!
great video. thanks! Just curious, what are your thoughts on Duane Allman? Would love if you could do a video on him.
Thanks! I have many thoughts about Duane Allman, mostly positive ones - especially about his playing and his approach to music and working with others. I've done a few videos on Duane, but I could do another for sure!
@@MarkZabel thanks for responding and that’s cool to hear. Duane is my favorite guitarist and I respect your opinion. I’ll have to find your videos on him
Thanks Mark love the caption😅Great lesson 👋🖤🦋🖤
Thank you! 😃
I clicked the link and gave you my name and email but no download yet? Do I have to wait a few hours or something?
No. Should be instantaneous. I see a josephgonzalez5252@gmail.com on the segment mailing list. It's automated, so I know it works. If the email is right, then check your spam folder or any other blocked folders. As I say, I know it works, because over 40,000 people have gotten emails from me with this automated service.
Ok… what’s the email that it’s meant to be coming from? I’ll check my block list
@@josephgonzalez9522 It's on my About page.
@@MarkZabelok, it finally popped up a few hours later, strange… thanks
I understand the 1 cord shape, eg C then A then G etc and how it follows but how do you work out the 4 and 5 cord? Is there an order to them too?
1. The free practice tool has the 1, 4, 5 for each key.
2. The order is C, A, G, E, D, C, A, G, ...
@@MarkZabel so basically I have to sign up to get the answer to the question how to find the shape for interval 4 and 5?… the 1 (root) is straight forward following the CAGED… pity there is not a straightforward answer like the 4th is the 4th letter of CAGED eg (G) being E etc… I’ll watch he video a few more times to see if there is a pattern.
@@MarkZabelI just wrote it out and there is a pattern for the 4th and the 5th;) CAGED!! I think I got it now. Thanks mate! Great video but you should explain how to find the other interval shapes too… though I just might not of understood your explanation.
@@MarkZabelyour free tool still doesn’t explain how you find the shape for the 4 or the 5 cords. The first cord is easy but finding the shape for the 4 and 5 is a mystery. And how would you find the shapes for the 2 or 6 cord? Atleast your video opened a can of worms to explore. Thanks
@@josephgonzalez9522 It's shown in the video. If you don't know the notes on the fretboard, that's a bigger issue and needs to be addressed first.
Noice
Thanks!
