Thank you. I, for what ever reason, lost my Photos Library. I looked online and seen the "Option Command Repair" sequence and I tried to "Repair" but, my MacBook Air must have been in La La Land somewhere because it did not seem to do anything. Aftew seeing this video and doing the "Option - Photos I seen that for some unknown reason to me that there were two Libraries showing. I clicked on the other one and WALA, my Library was restored. Then for kicks, after shutting Photos down I tried the '"Option-Photos" again and ONLY one Library was showing, as it should have been. I am now a Happy Camper, thank you.
Hi Greg Trying to resolve a Photos issue on a friend’s new M1 iMac that he recently purchased. We imported his old Photos library from his intel iMac through migration. All went fine with that. You can view, open and manipulate the photos from the new library on the M1 iMac however we are unable to import new photos from his Canon 5G Mark 4. An error appears explaining that photos is unable to read file format (not worded exactly that way but something to that effect). I’m thinking that it could be a few things due to his set up but I’m only guessing. Here are a few other variables that I am suspecting may be impacting the problem. His library is on an external SSD drive. Do you think if I reformat the external drive to “extended journaled” that this would help? Also he is connecting his camera to the M1 iMac with the standard USB cable that came with the camera. It is connected to an apple USB to USB C adapter which is in turn plugged into one of the USB C sockets on the iMac. (We also tried plugging into the thunderbolt socket too. Doing that did not change anything). We also tried accessing a copy of the library that was on the M1 iMac and the same issue occurs. Any ideas? Your help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
I have a question.. i transferred my photo library onto a hard drive after years of putting it off, but i had no more space on my computer to even upgrade my macbook. i hate using icloud, nor hard drives, so anyways i transferred it off my computer. I felt a huge load off, no pun intended :))) but now i wanted to finally transfer the thousands of photos i have on my iPhone onto photo library and then onto the hard drive, because I love the way Photo library organizes it. But when I connected my iPhone and tried to import photos it says it can't find the Photo library, it's been moved to external hard drive. What do I do now?? does this make sense? fyi, love your video, i learnt a few things, i know nothing about computers! :(
Hi Greg, I am forced to create a new photo library because my regular library will not download new photos from my Iphone anymore. Do you have any idea why that would be? Thanks, Dan
I found this really interesting, thanks. One question, although I've already bit the bullet, will Repair solve issues with the Photos Import New Dialogue and ghost pictures that refuse to import? (Images that multiply like lemmings and refuse to be removed from the Import New dialogue.)
Ok, I have a photo library that I made many years ago (because my computer was full, so I made one and put it on an external hard drive). NOW, I am unable to open it on my computer now. I did the repair idea that you mentioned in this video and it still won't open. any ideas.
This is great info. I save my photos on iCloud, how does this work with my other devices if I have multiple files. Also if I upgrade my device will iCloud restore multiple photo files?
Hey Greg, question for you. I am having issues with my photo library. I click to open, it does not open. I created a new library, as you suggested, and it opened. I then followed what you had to say about repairing and it did not do anything, did not open. I keep getting these messages, "The Library could not be opened. Photos was unable to open the library "photos library." (4302) I even watched your other video about going into the photos library, clicking show package content, and clicking on the originals folder, but I do not have a originals folder. Only attachments, Masks, Masters, Plugins, Private & Resources. Is there something I am missing, something I can do on my mac, or am I out of luck for getting photos opened? Thank you in advance! Love your videos.
Hi. I have got very old Mac mini (2011) and relatively new Macbook Air. I noticed that Mac mini with old osx (do not remember name) is not able to open photolibrary created on Macbook Air (too old Apple Photos version). It is very risky to archive photos only in photos library. What do you think?
Hi, As you told I have been using an external since I bought M1 Mac Book. But something happened after the last update of the Mac Book and now I can not open my photo library on my external even I can not create a new library. Do you have an opinion? İs there a problem with the last macOS?
When I go to open my iPhotos library (its on an external). I get this message "Photos was unable to open the library “Photos Library 2.photoslibrary”. (5416)". I tried the repair method, it didn't work. So I should create a new iPhotos library and then drag and dump the "originals" folder from the corrupted one to the new library. That should import all the photos from the corrupted library into the new one right?
I got a new Mac and so had to switch my iPhoto library to the Photos app. I have thousands of pictures. I migrated my pictures in one swoop. Most of the information and pictures transferred, but as I'm going through my pictures in the Photos app I've noticed that not all the faces transferred and some pictures didn't transfer. I am also having an issue with the "people" thing in Photos, but that is a problem for a different day. I'm trying to think of something I can do to make sure all my info and pictures transfer without having to go through each picture one by one which would take months probably. Do you think I could create a new iPhotos library with one event or album at a time from the main library then transfer that over to my new Mac and the Photos app? Would that work?
My photos library is over 600 gigs big with over 80,000 photos and my photos app is stuck on “updating” and won’t do anything after that, and I’m using iCloud with my photos library as an extra back up for my iCloud photos.
Help! My photo app on my 2013 mac pro glitched. I restarted it and now it pops up the choose a library start a new one thing. However when i click existing library it wont let me open it. The open button just flashes.
How? Apples actual support article says it cant be done. Here is their way of getting photos from one library to another ... "Combine libraries in Photos Use these steps on your Mac to combine photos and videos from separate Photos libraries into one library. To combine Photos libraries, open the source library and export the photos and videos that you want to keep. Then open the destination library (the one that you want to use as your main library) and import the photos and videos."

Can you please explain how to reorganize a library? I put files in it but the order e the data are completely wrong

The option key hold then press of photos library did not work for me. Did it change with updates?

I use my iPhone for street photography and am *not* on my Macbook Pro a lot. How to switch photo libraries from my iPhone?
Can the library on a Mac be moved to a external SSD that is formatted as ExFat without an issues? Or should it be formatted with an Apple format
When I go to open my iPhotos library (its on an external). I get this message "Photos was unable to open the library “Photos Library 2.photoslibrary”. (5416)". Totally correct. Just make sure you have space for the two libraries while they are moving.
@@gregtoope Thank you so much.
Thank You ❤️
How do I move photos in a library that doesn’t link to iCloud into a photos library so i can share them via the cloud

No worries!
How to allow photo sharing on macbook pro
This is just an idea I think you should do a review on bose headphones
would be great but would need to get Bose to send us some. Sometimes we buy headphones but Bose are pretty pricey.
No one every tells how to split the library and move photos out of main system library to new library and delete them from system.
Where does he go to find those filters ohhh when he say “ if I come here “
Actually now on Monterey you can merge Photo Libraries
Help! My photo app on my 2013 mac pro glitched. I restarted it and now it pops up the choose a library start a new one thing. However when i click existing library it wont let me open it. The open button just flashes.
Actually, you can merge different libraries and keep the order or their albums 😀
How? Apples actual support article says it cant be done. Here is their way of getting photos from one library to another ...
"Combine libraries in Photos

@@gregtoope what a teaser `-´
Or AirPods Pro they are my favorite headphone because they are small and awesome the AirPods Pro
Still pricey. We try and focus on Alternatives to the more expensive brands when possible.
