On October 31, 2023, Princess Leonor of Spain took the constitutional oath in an official ceremony at the Spanish Parliament, coinciding with her 18th birthday.
Accompanied by her parents, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, as well as her younger sister, Infanta Sofía, Princess Leonor swore loyalty to the Constitution and the law, pledging to uphold the rights of citizens and autonomous communities and to remain faithful to the King.
Following the oath, she received a nearly four-minute standing ovation from the attendees.
The ceremony concluded with a military parade featuring personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Civil Guard outside the Parliament building.
By taking this oath, Princess Leonor is now officially able to assume royal functions independently if necessary, without requiring a regent. This moment marks a significant milestone in her preparation as the heir to the Spanish throne.
