Dead Man Walking is the title of the old documentary on the Jarrel Texas EF5 tornado. That dead man walking is in that. Comes from native American lore that says if you see ‘the dead man walking, you are about to die’. A very sad story Jarrell. So powerful it stripped the earth 1/2 meter down. All wiped clear. Including houses and people.
Another good video is 1998 vortexva channel Columbus Nebraska tornado. Shows great structure as it comes to their farm and great ‘rope out’ of the tornado. Pecos Hank gives it a thumbs up too.
There's also a few well done RUclips based documentaries about this tornado just because it's so very infamous. Recky might find it interesting and heartbreaking to do a reaction to any of the good ones about it.
Hey Recky, quick story....
I grew up in florida, so scary bad weather isn't a new concept for me. But my dad (rest is soul, lost him to covid), my dad was terrified of storms. All storms. Reason why.....
In the 60s, he was in Pensacola (North florida) waiting at a bus stop. He was coming home on leave from the Navy, when a HUGE mile wide tornado hit ( terrible early warning system back then). So with pretty much no warning, it hit. He got picked up, carried off, thrown through a window of a business, and the building was torn up around him. He was rescued, but one of his feet was about 98% severed, literally hanging on by a thread. I'll never forget my dad's scars on his arms and thighs from skin graphs to reattach his foot. He made a full physical recovery, but he was ALWAYS very nervous during thunder storms. It was always quite sad to see our father scared, because outside of that, he was scared of nothing.
I know you are facinated by tornadoes Recky, so I thought you'd find the story about my dad interesting. You and Carol, and the cats all take care of each other. xx
Wow that's really traumatizing :( I'm sorry he went through that and am sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace. ♥
@@RedRoseSeptember22
Thank you. xx
Thank you Kristin for this. Such an insane story. Your dad, stronger than steel!!
@@Reckyj Thank you Recky 🙂
The worst fire tornado was in Tokyo in 1923, as a result of fires started from the Great Tokyo Earthquake. It killed 40,000 people in a few minutes, the greatest death toll of any tornado. He missed that one!
Ooohh. One time I was freaking out because I was stuck in traffic as I watched the sky that looked like it was boiling and a cone shape dropped down towards the ground. I was ready to run out of my car and hide, but now I know it was a SCUD! Phew!
Those clouds are NOT COOL! lol
Holy crap that steam devil was so cool! It made me feel creative for some reason
Recky he actually has 2 kitties. The one in the video is named Pluto and he said that he is very outgoing and always likes to be in the way. His other kitty is named Neptune, and he told me that she is "shy and sweet" just the opposite of Pluto
15:30 - not all cumulonimbus clouds (thunderstorms) are supercells. A Supercell is a particular type of thunderstorm that, as the video states, has strong rotating updraft called a mesocyclone while regular thunderstorms do not. This mesocyclone is what births the tornado, though not all supercells produce tornados.
I live in Illinois. Tornado season is "Adult time" here LOL When the siren goes off or the radio says severe weather approaching....the adults yell at the kids to go in the basement....grab a beverage and all meet in the front yard and watch the sky. LOL If it starts raining, the neighbor with the cleanest garage becomes the host. LOL Adult time is over when the kids start poking their heads out the doors to see what is happening. LOL Ok........did not claim that we were the sharpest crayons in the box....but accurate. LOL
hahahaha you made me spit out my coffee!!!!
We used to climb up on the roof for better view... Haven't been accused of being the sharpest spoon in the drawer, either... 😉😉. lol
I have a nephew who once went into a greenhouse to try to watch a tornado. It ended up being 2 miles away. This was in 2011.
I can confirm this. Lol. Everyone around here goes outside instead of taking shelter. I’m from Illinois as well.
Hey @Cris Friant we did the same thing when the kids were younger. We had them go down in the basement, while we watched towards the West, and Southwest for a funnel, or tornado. Now, we did have the TV on, too. If we saw something, or if someone spotted something, we all got cozy in the basement. I'm sure it's the same in Illinois, as it is in Kansas. We get siresns blowing for something that isn't headed our way, but since part of the county is in it, the sound the siren.
I live in Tucson, AZ, so I get to see dust devils very frequently. I grew up in Illinois, so we had quite a few tornadoes.
As a midwest resident, living in the midwest is definitely an experience😂😂😂
Another type of whirlwind that frequently is invisible is a thermal up draft. This is what birds like eagles, vultures and even glider planes use to keep loft
Thanks this is educational even for those who live in tornado ally.
My pleasure!
On RUclips is a video called R3 Shelter repair "Tragedy in Tornado Alley". It's an in-depth look at the children lost during the Moore, Oklahoma tornado at Plaza Towers Elementary school. This should be a required watch in conjunction with "Real Time Tornado Alley :Moore OK". Speaking of The Moore Episode on RUclips, it's missing the first 15-20 minuets. If anyone has the full episode please put it here for all of us to study.
Two of my favourite channels crossing over heck yeah
ohh Neat!
Hey Recky and Carol, too even though she isn't in the video. As I've said before, I absolutely Love your channel! If my husband didn't just pass from Cancer, and having an almost 21 y/o and twins that just turned 18, I would definitely support you guys with money. I can tell you both are kind, loving, and so on off, and on the camera. First of all, I'm just to the Dust Devil part of your video. I live in North East Kansas, and live in Tornado Alley. But, in western Kansas dust storms occur quite a lot. The worst one is called "Dust Storm of 1935." People died of pneumonia from the dust, and suffocation as it went through. This year there was an 11 car pile up, and if I'm correct 3 passed.
You being here is more than enough. Thank you for the kind words. And im sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss 💜 thank you for your kind words 🌹
@@reckyNcarol thank you so much, Carol! You both take care! 💜
I’m very sorry for your loss. Cancer really sucks.
@@LilJigglypuff999 Thank you so much! It's hard to figure out who I am without my Soulmate! We were friends starting at 12, and he was 13. Then started dating, discussed we didn't want to ruin our friendship, so we continued to communicate with each other about everything. We did that until he passed. But, we were married at 19, and 20. I really thought we would be able to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. Lastly, we have an almost 21 y/o, and twins that turned 18 a couple months ago.
This is so interesting ! 🤘I’ve lived in Tornado Alley all my life (4 different states ) and have had many close callers w/ tornados . Luckily never been in one🙏
Knock on some wood there, Heather! I live in tornado alley, also. We had to out run 3, and a couple hit our town. So far the biggest one has been a F-2. *knocking on wood!* I don't want any type of tornado again. One happened when we were in school, when I was in middle school. That was the scariest one!
Always love your tornado videos!
swap you a close call for my ptsd
My favorite tornado would have to be a waterspout. Dealing with the chance of a Super Storm developng each month of the year.
Sassy ghosts are even in a tornado video. 😳 Great educational video!
They are everywhere!!
For me, if I detect a certain smell in the air, I'm grabbing the cats and heading to the basement!
Otherwise, I'm going to bed. Hey, it's my system. It works. I live in Tornado Alley here in the Kansas City MO USA area.
I live in Tennessee, (Dixie Alley). We have tornadoes often down here. I would have to say my favorite is a dust devil. They are cool looking and they don’t kill people or make people homeless. I was on a softball field as a teenager and right in the middle of a game, we had a dust devil. It went right over me. It felt like being in a sandblaster with all the dirt and small sticks hitting me, and for a moment I felt really light, like I might be lifted off my feet. Then it was gone… and I was laughing at it🐝🤗❤️
As a kid in Utah I would chase after dust devils. In hindsight I am glad I never caught one
Fascinating video, never heard of some of them. Only saw one tornado in my life and never want to see another lol.
I get that Eric, been there, done that!
Very interesting! I would like that other video you mentioned.
It might also be interesting for you to do something about the tornado rating systems if you haven't already. It could help you understand where the numbers come from. Also, they're based on damage done to structures and trees, so tornadoes that don't hit structures usually get lower ratings than they would have had they hit somewhere more populated.
This video was very Interesting. Thank you for reacting to it. A very good learning experience.
The FIRE Tornado is the coolest looking one.
Yeah but haunting!
I live in the state of Nevada in the USA and we have dust devils often lol. Mostly happens on windy days :)
Great reaction! I love that you’re continuing your education on tornadoes and storms. Try Pecos Hank’s “Fastest Tornado Ever” video, the science is fascinating!
Pecos has been suggested many times! ;)
If you are interested in some high quality photography/videos of tornados up close, I recommend Pecos Hank. He is a veteran storm chaser with a love for animals and a talent for music! He is very educational as well.
I got a few Pecos videos coming soon!
That was cool! Thanks, Recky!
My pleasure! I know it has been suggested many times. ;)
Great review, again, Recky...thank you!!
lol...dust devils, oh my!!! When about age 12, there used to be a lot of them here...one day, buddies and I were out messing around... We all thought it would be cool to ride bike into it. Of course, I was nominated to try it first... This particular one was rather large in comparison... Accepting the dare was my first mistake!!! 🙄🙄
Got on my bike and headed in, next I knew I was airborne!!! My bike and I were separated mid-flight (likely a good thing)...I was tossed over a fence and the the middle of nextdoor yard... I was airborne for at least 50 ft...
Also, have seen the fire tornadoes, too... fighting grass fires...they certainly grab your attention!!! lol
Yikes lol...
Omg!! 50 ft???
I agree! YIKES
@@Reckyj at least 50 ft (about 16-17m) lol... I didn't measure with a tape, not sure I could see straight enough at the time to read a tape measure!!! lol. 😉😉
Something that you may not know is that fires can create their own weather, winds. This is when large wildfires can double in size in a matter of hours. I’ve seen 50k acre fires go to 100k acres over night
Enjoyed watching this video on Patreon Recky. I think the non lethal (usually) water spouts are the coolest.
Yeah the non-lethal ones happen in Florida a lot and there are people who purposely drive their speedboats through them for fun lol.
I like water sprouts to. They look nice. And not that haunting
Omg that would freak me out
Oh man it's school time with recky and you should check out natural water events
My fave are the fire spout, the waterspout, and the multi-vortex tornado. I don't want to be in any of them, though. xD
I saw a waterspout when I was coming home one day on a school bus. It formed over Lake Michigan then traveled to a smaller lake attached to the Lake by a channel. We were on a hill and you could see the water. The waterspout formed a perfect spiral pattern in the water. It was fascinating and triggered my interest in weather. We have a lot of waterspouts and cold air funnels here in Michigan generated by the Great Lakes, especially in the late fall when the air is cold but the lake water is still warm.
Ooh that's neat :)
@@RedRoseSeptember22 It is. Local forcasters even tell you when conditions are right for them to form. When we can, we head out there. They're really fascinating.
We actually have a few water sprouts in Sweden to. Rare, but they pop up
An 'eddy' in Swedish is 'eda' (old-fashioned) or 'strömvirvel' .
Yeah that makes sense
I've never seen this video before but it's actually pretty cool. I've sene most of these but never knew all of their names
I've been in several tornadoes over the years (Goddard, Kansas, Emporia, Kansas and Enid, Oklahoma, for example. Greensburg, Kansas tornado killed people and one-half of the ones who lived never moved back.) We also have earthquakes in Kansas. A few years ago, I was almost thrown out of bed one morning, and I was at Taco Bell another time sitting and eating a taco when my bar stool started shaking. I ran to the door. I need to move to Sweden.
No dangerous weather here. 😃
My dad's hometown of Belmond, Iowa was half destroyed in 1966 by an EF5 tornado. It was hit again in 2013 by an EF3, the damage was no where as severe. On a side note, most people in Belmond are either Scandinavian (mostly Norwegian) or German decent (if my last name didn't clue you in).
Deadman walking is not a photoshop edit. It was taken at the early stages of the Jarrell, Texas tornado and it was verified legit.
Dust devils out in the parking lot at work every single day.
Multi vortex looks the coolest, but I wouldn't want to be in one.
Multi vortex is just insane tho! We have a few leaf eddies, thats it. And some water sprouts. Rare tho
When I was a teen I saw another teen get hit by a dust devil. He was pretty torn up!
I've seen a lot of leaf eddies and dust devils. No tornados or ghost babies on the water.
I think Dust Devils seed the clouds for the Midwest storms
I wouldn't know about that I know they are common in rural Utah
Very interesting video. Have you seen a Haboob? (Dust storm) They are incredible. Maybe check out Full Evolution of Mega Haboob in Southern Arizona.
El Reno EF5 was a Rain wrapped Tornado!
Joplin to
I heard about that EF3 firenado a while ago. I never thought fire could do something like that but unfortunately, it’s a thing. 🙁
When I see Recky, I like the video. Then I press the 👍
Ohh what a nice thing to say. I appreciate it !
Recky there is also a very silly and funny and stupid series of movies called "Sharknado" Where a tornado filled with sharks attack people! You should react to that movie if you want a very silly laugh.
I tried watching one of them. It hurt my head lol
@@Reckyj HAHA Did a shark fly out and bite your head off? LOL
Love this reaction! The tornados is how I found your channel, it came up in the algorithm in RUclips as a suggestion… 🌪 But I subscribed for all the content! So many kitties in this reaction! (Yours were running through too, Mr, Recky). 😻 And I never, ever thought I would watch a tornado reaction and hear “sassy ghost babies”… 👻👶 😂😂😂😂😂
Nope sassy ghost babies can pop up everywhere!!! 😂
@@Reckyj Well, Recky, as long as they don’t pop up at my house, I’m good! 🤣🤣🤣
@@michellepetrillo2235 Nade and run! OR Roundhouse kick
ok yeah i already commented this on another video but you should definitely if not react to at least watch Carly Anna WX's videos, they are incredible. She does full timelines of tornados, the atmospheric conditions that produced them, the social conditions around them, and the aftermath. She also does videos on lists of tornados that she finds most interesting or examples of tornados from around the world instead of just the USA. Truly underrated channel that deserves more exposure and super good for learning if you're just getting interested in weather
EDIT: OH RIGHT YES she also has an incredibly cute cat who makes an appearance at least once a video
Luckily I live in the mountainous state of Washington and the mountains really chop those funnel feet to bits. Tornados don't survive where there are mountains very long if at all. Downside? We get quakes and our Mt St Helens blew her top in 1980 so there's upsides and downsides 👍
He forgot the elephant trunk tornado!
It sounds like I need to move to Sweden
Maybe a visit first! 😉
Recky have you watched the movie Twister, if not you should itd be great to see you react to it!
One of my favorite movies!
Watch the Jarrell Tornado Dead Man Walking video. It's an hour long.
And try out Carly Anne WX channel. She's all about tornadoes.
You should be a tornado expert by now.
You might think that. But I forget what I ate for dinner.. and lunch..
@@Reckyj lol. You're too young to use that excuse. I see dust devils, and waterspouts once a year.
@@ironchops1814 I’m 40+ it’s all going down hill! 😀
@@Reckyj lol. Your so dramatic 🙄.
@@ironchops1814 need my wife at my side. I don’t function without her.
They forgot the most dangerous of them all: a woman scorned 🤭🤭🤭
What?
actually it's pronounced whirl wind Because in the start of the video it kind of sounded like you said whirl pool
I probably did! =) Thank you for the clarification!
@@Reckyj You're welcome
2 min intro wow
This guy is so off-base about tornadoes. I do not think he knows what a tornado actually is.
I mean he googled the information, so blame google.
@@Reckyj things like dirt devils have absolutely no relationship at all with real tornadoes. They form in completely different ways. I live in Tornado Alley and might go in life was to be a storm chaser but that did not come to True fruition. Instead I chose to work in radio and my job was to elect the public of severe weather in the area by being on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week to assist in weather matters.
