It's actually good that the film industry has given him opportunities to sing OSTs as it further boosts his popularity at home and internationally. As for the "Chinese music circle & critics", based on what I have heard, it can be said that they can be narrow minded sometimes and only look at the typical "pop idols". Nonetheless, Zhou Shen has proven that he's got what it takes to be at the top regardless of critism he faces. Chinese music critics are a strange bunch. They constantly complain about the demise of Chinese music, yet when a musician of Zhou Shen's calibre releases an album, they ignore it. They complain when they have to pay to listen to an artist's album. Looking at recent events, they seem to care more about traffic idols releasing albums 😂 What can they criticize Zhou Shen for now that he has released his second album, I wonder.... I personally think that OST is harder because with an album, you are singing what you want, however you want. With an OST you need the ability to express what the movie/drama subject matter requires and not everyone is able to do that.
It's more likely that Zhou Shen hasn't paid any of these music critics so they won't write any reviews - favourable or not. Sometimes I think that these critics just don't know what to say about Zhou Shen or they can't find anything negative to say. He is able to master so many different genres. Imagine Ding Taisheng critiquing the Sound River performance in Hong Kong or the China in the Lights performance at the NCPA - It's way out of his league 😂
