    If we're to assume that this whole episode was indeed Eva rewriting her own memory to make her feel less guilty about leaving Neil, then that tells us two things.
    1. Eva cares about Neil more than she would like to admit.
    2. Eva is so emotionally underdeveloped that instead of being more open with Neil, she instead chooses to rewrite her memory to make her feel better about herself.
    Not just her, I get the feeling that a lot of the doctors working at Sigmund come from troubled backgrounds. What kind of life experience must you have to be ok with rewriting memories for people as your job, let alone constantly visiting dying people on the reg?

    The more I watch these the more I cant help but think the neil dying theory's hold up especially the last part with Eva blinking in and out from what I think is the memory of the Christmas party like she's trying to experience a time where neil didn't go back home and choose to stay with them at the party

      @@cabbage5641 there's a theory that Neil is dying.
      There's supporting evidence in the game (such as him taking painkillers) to show that he suffered a major injury in the past, and it's possible that he's slowly dying.

      @@davidgn40 There was also the Carnival scene in To The Moon with the Whack a Mole and stuff. When Eva and Neil come across the Fortune Teller, Neil says he doesn't want to participate, because, "[Regardless of whether my fortune is] good or bad, I'm screwed either way." Him saying he's "screwed either way" supports the theory that he has some kind of terminal illness.
      Also, you can clearly see Eva wearing one of those memory machine helmets when she was blinking in and out of the dream/memory of the party. She's _definitely_ trying to alter something that happened. Since there were two Evas at one point, I assume the one in the car was the _real_ Eva, who left to go to her sister's place and left Neil behind. The other one (who was crossing the street) was Eva in the present day, going back to that night to alter her memories by taking her sister's advice and being there for Neil when he was going to end up spending Christmas alone. She definitely must have felt guilty for leaving Neil alone like that.

      @@davidgn40 I don't think Neil is suffering from any external injury. If Kan is drawing from people suffering from the opioid crisis, Neil might just be addicted after attempting to rewrite his own memory using a modified memory rewrite machine, which in turn brought about his pain. Many abusers of opiates didn't suffer from any physical injury, but were initially looking for some relief from their emotional and mental issues, whatever may have caused them (i.e. poverty). We know that Neil has made many attempts using his modified machine on himself. We also know that use of the machine on the healthy living people can induce cognitive dissonance, which is incredibly stressful to address if severe enough, i.e. a machine writing new memories directly to your brain. If Neil comes from a broken family as this episode suggests, it would be very plausible for him to go down such a dangerous path of modifying this powerful tech for his own wishes.

    • @davidgn40
      @davidgn40 3 года назад +3

      @@ziqi92 that's an interesting alternative. I just assumed it was an external injury because in To The Moon he mentions an occasion where he went out with his dad (or uncle? I can't exactly remember right now) and came back injured, so I assumed that was the origin of his painkiller use.

    So I'm guessing that Eva felt too guilty for leaving Neil alone for Christmas so she went back into her own head to change what happened to make herself feel less guilty.

      @@kharkovluzhin8333 That's a good point, but it may be possible that Eva just made up the whole section with Neil in her own head? Or maybe Eva's connected to Neil's memories, which would explain why she'd be able to watch what he's doing. Remember, in To The Moon, Eva and Neil were able to watch John's memories as invisible ghosts. So it's possible that Eva was always around as an invisible ghost throughout the part of the game from Neil's point of view.

      Imposter Factory (the third main game in the series) answered a lot of questions about Neil and his version of the Memory Editor machine, but what Eva's doing here remains mostly unanswered. It's clear she's using Neil's Memory Editor machine, but we don't know exactly why she's using it. My best guess at the moment is that these two Minisodes take place after Neil died (since it's implied he's dying) and that Eva's altering her own memories to make her feel like she was a better friend to Neil while he was still alive.
