It's funny you mention the heater core, and having to take half the car apart. You're correct, entire dashboard has to go. I did a heater core in an 84 I believe. All the screws had a home when I was done though!
yeah, if you don't have factory AC, that heater core comes out the glovebox like a VCR tape. But my 1986 GT had none-working AC, so I had to move the dashboard out of the way. In winter up north.
and it was my daily driver.
so not only was it freezing temps, i only had one hour of daylight (old man wouldn't clear out the garage for me) to do the process. took a month and i snapped a few plastic tabs off the dash. finally got the dash far enough from the cowl on a weekend to sneak in the $20 part and avoid the $800 repair a mechanic would have done.
you aren't kidding about leftover screws at the end of a project, however :)

Even with a few minimal parts, it could have been an untouchable powerhouse.
That'd be overkill for that rust bucket. And that thing vibrated like crazy too. Though it's engine note was pretty cool and unique.

After all those episodes and pay to view mess, I hope people learned that trying to keep a old rotsun to go work or roadtrip can be really hazardous and ruin your fun and maybe others fun in a accident. New parts are a thing, and even though, it may still dangerous. Pit and track fun only to me, dont want to see rust on a windshield in the highway.

How did that z car have a v6 in it?
They originally bought the car without an engine in it. Then they swapped a 4.3 V6 from an S10 into it. Then they killed that, several times and thus did the Ford swap.
It was in a Mustang working properly...why there is a problem to "figure out" water pump and damper?
I'd have patiently waited for Hurricane six engines to start showing up in totaled vehicles at the scrapyard! Keep it an inline six and over 500 hp stock would make that Z fly like none before it has. I see the Hurricane 6 in race form as going to be able to put some shade on the Toyota JZ engine.

Ummm, I'm fairly certain the Datsun had a straight 6. Just saying. Keep up the fun projects. You guys do great work.
OEM engine was a L6. Then they swapped it to a Chevy 4.3L V6 from a S10. (And changed it several times as it kept failing).
Then it got the Foxbody V8 as shown in this episode. Maybe do some research on the car, haha.
Factory engine was a inline six. With overhead cam.

They ran that engine on Engine Masters. It made way north of 600 hp I believe.
