    Members of Bilingualism Matters Edinburgh present research findings relating to various aspects of Gaelic and bilingualism. This online event was held live on Friday 5th November 2021 as part of the Edinburgh Gaelic Festival programme of events.
    NEW SPEAKERS, OLD SPEAKERS: LANGUAGE CHANGE IN GAELIC AND OTHER MINORITY LANGUAGES - Prof. Antonella Sorace, Professor of Developmental Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh.
    Languages in contact change in both directions: this is a natural, selective and predictable process. Understanding and accepting these changes is essential for the revitalization of minority languages and for ensuring that these languages become part of young people’s lives.

    In their 2021 election manifesto, the SNP made a number of commitments relating to Gaelic. In this presentation, Prof. Wilson McLeod and Prof. Rob Dunbar will draw on their recent work on Gaelic policy to explore the implications of the SNP’s commitments, and the broader policy landscape.
