    Thanks, enjoyed the video. Nice to see a little behind how these work.

    I would open up the other poles hand hole and make sure there aren't more of those goofy terminal blocks installed.

      Good call! I haven't done this yet. I isolated the issue to this corner as this is the one that keeps causing it to go into flash. But who knows what other future issues could be lurking! 😬

    What I have noticed while working private security during the wee hours 2 to 3 to 4 AM, many intersections will stay green all the time for the primary thoroughfare unless a car appears on the minor road which would be normal.
    HOWEVER, after a hard rain, the lights cycle just they do at high noon! Since most every intersection is now controlled by lane cameras rather than loops buried in the roadway, I’m wondering what is causing this❓
    Thanks for your outstanding informative videos👍👍

      I cannot say for sure this is the problem, but I've dealt with a similiar issue on a project recently. Many cameras are power over ethernet. The ethernet cable that is plugged into the camera up on the mastarm has the best chance of getting moisture in the connector. Everytime it rained, some of our intersections would cycle as you describe. Then after awhile, they would start working fine. We found that the contractor forgot to put dielectric grease in the connector up there. THis would prevent moisture in the connector. When a camera is affected like this, the camera processor sends constant vehicle calls for that direction to the signal controller, thus the cycling. After the connector dried up, it would work fine again.
      The contractor had to come back and go thru 18 intersections and install dielectric grease in every camera. Quite alot of extra work they could have avoided if they did it correct the first time.
      Thanks for the nice comment!

    having all the splices in the hand hole seems pretty wild to me. they're in an SVT for us

      We don't usually have splices in handholes. Too much can go wrong. But this was done before my time...I'm not sure why this particular cable was spliced to begin with. For now, its working though on the spare wire we had available. If that didn't work, we would have definitely pulled in a new cable. Thanks for your input!

    Awesome video extremely interesting content! Are the traffic lights AC voltage or DC voltage? I'm assuming at the location of the control cabinet it would be impossible to have dual indication through what looks like an output modules 8R 8G terminals; one would think the logic would be an 'OR' operation, green or red; as would be, with coil, driven, relay logic? in this configuration, it would be impossible to have both indications on unless it was backfeeding from the field wiring? as it doesn't appear there any isolation. Relays ? All the red wires go to one terminal which I assume is all the lights you want red in the two cardinal directions it serves? It's interesting to me that your output module doesn't slave the coil of a relays? for the cardinal directions involved! Designing the circuit in this way, would absolutely isolate any possibility of having dual indications…. Feedback I'd love to understand more about how this stuff works thanks again for the video, Agape, Brother

      These lights are 120V AC. You are exactly right about your statement. In this case, it was a backfeed. Yes, all red wires for a certain direction are fed to the 'R' terminal for that direction. Same for the 'Y' (yellow), and'G' (green). A load switch takes the output from the controller (logic) and converts to the 120V AC which is what the indications in the street use. I post weekly videos on traffic signals and also have an online membership that i teach all of this stuff. Anyways, thanks for the kind comments!

    They don’t love you that’s why they flash green and red ha ha ha ha they’re bad signals actually to be honest I appreciate your work. Why is the fascinated with singles but I noticed it seems like I think I don’t know you or another person I’m watching, but I think you’re the only one I’m watching. Seems like you’re in Mississippi one monthor somewhere down that way on the Gulf Coast in the next year up here in the Midwest somewhere anyway.

      Hey thanks for the kind words! And yes they don't like me sometimes...LOL
      You're Mississippi guy you're referring to is the Traffic Light Doctor. Great guy and great videos. He's great because you see alot from the contractors point of view. I work for a government agency so you'll see more of the maintenance side of it. But funny, I've had many people think I'm him! 😆

    Sounds like an underground short. Are both fixtures fed from the same wire?

      I have an intersection in the area that I maintain that was having this same issue. We would replace the load pack and it would be resolved for months at a time. I just found what I believe is the issue during an inspection. Inside a 2-way spreader the wires had corroded apart. I only found it because of an amber lamp out. When I tried to change it I had no power only when the amber was serviced.

      @@matthewjacobs1164 It was basically what you just said. We had a amber wire that had lost its insulation due to age. It was starting to ground itself out on a metal conduit inside one of the signal heads. Luckily, it was able to be fixed. Although at some point, all the cable for the intersection will need replaced as it's not in much better shape!
      Great find! Thanks for commenting!

    Are eagle traffic good lights?

    • @streetsmartstraffic
      @streetsmartstraffic  3 месяца назад +1

      Eagle is the manufacturer of the housing (3 section, 4 section, 5 section heads) that you see hanging on the mastarms and poles. Then you have different manufacturers for the LED's that go into those signal heads. I have no complaints about them! Good question!

    What voltage do the heads use anyway?

    • @streetsmartstraffic
      @streetsmartstraffic  7 месяцев назад

      These are 120VAC. There are low voltage traffic signal systems out there that use 48V but you'll mostly find 120VAC

    I am an IBEW 353 electrician and have been working in traffic services for the city of Toronto for about 20 years, and have seen some pretty shady work, but WTF, who uses a terminal block inside a pvc "C" fitting and then jams that abomination inside a traffic pole, what could possibly go wrong.
