Yeah, coach 1 seat 15 or coach 18 seat 15 (depending on the direction of travel) are the best seats to book if you want to hear the 373 motors & power car rheostatic fans, as well as film the journey. And the seat aligning with the window is much better now in its refurbished state.

Sounds like you was in the coach next to the rear power car (the one where part of the coach contains equipment to do with the power car)

Best way to know which train u’ll get is to look at how many carriages your train will have. If it’s 18, it’s an E-300, if it’s 16, it’s a velaro.

Me too but in order to match with new Velaro fleet whilst keeping remaining sets operational, they had no option.
