Incredibly entertaining and the only problem is I don't know anyone that is deep enough into Animorphs lore to appreciate this
I have the exact same problem. "Great, I've now shared it with the 2 people I know who can follow it... now what?" Such is the plight of the decades-long Animorphs fan.
*Raises hand* You found one
Me toooo!!! This is awesome.
..I have been summoned
Arbron finding the Time Matrix as part of the cleanup crew would have been such an on-the-nose coincidence that it would take the Ellimist just to justify it.
Arbron:
@@torren5950 And on that day, Arbron became the first Taxxon to somehow swallow and digest a sphere the size of a minivan.
if I hear even a WHISPER of an animorphs reboot/nostalgia cycle cash grab i'm sharing this video with anyone who will listen. Great video!!!!!
I mean it's virtually certain that the movie ain't happening but the graphic novels are a thing...
Theres also the fan theory that killing Tom was her loophole to escape death, but perhaps too tangential for this discussion
I've seen that theory as well and it does make sense. I opted not to include it here for fear of making the video even more difficult to follow, but one of the ideas behind the video is that Cassie is forcing the Ellimist's hand. Essentially Cassie saying to the Ellimist "she kept up her end of the bargain; either you will just resurrect her normally, or I will blaspheme you by abusing your Time Matrix." But I couldn't find a way to fit that motivation in without killing the flow.
@torren5950 totally understandable omission in this video
After all these years, I can't believe I still remember all of this continuity.
This video just goes to show that the Chee are pretty OP.
I kinda get why the Applegates used them sparingly, now I wanna go through each book and ask "Could a Chee easily solve this issue with holograms and force fields."
Yeah... meta-spoiler I guess, with the Chee + the Time Matrix, you can invent a justification for pretty much whatever crazy combination of events you want.
Holy crap this is convoluted, but has vastly more thought put into it then most series tend to attempt. Great job.
This is absolutely amazing content, why isn’t all Animorphs related content this good? You even fixed like half the “bad” books.
Glad you enjoyed it! I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the "bad" books, they enable stuff like this to exist.
I will probably never read an Animorphs book, but you totally captivated me with the lore of the world and how it could justify a resurrection of the series.
Your editing was so entertaining and you articulated your points well enough for me to follow along without knowing anything.
I'm sure fans of the series would appreciate this video, I think xD
Great job, and best of luck to you ^^
I see animorphs videos, I click like and subscribe
The fact that this is largely The Good Place is amazing
I really debated changing the thumbnail to hype the fact that there's a lot of Good Place in the video because the Animorphs fandom really seems to dig it... but that just seemed crass. I prefer leaving it as an unexpected surprise, esp. since The Good Place doesn't show up till several minutes in.
This idea is now canon to me, thanks.
I really enjoyed this and I appreciate how much work you clearly put in to it. I just finished reading the entire series, resulting in me need to fill my animorphs dependency with RUclips videos about the series. I’d love to see some sort of adaption of the series. I think I’m even willing to risk the result being along the lines of Enders Game for the chance to see these characters on screen. A few years ago I would have thought there’s no chance an adaption would ever be good, but then Dune came out. If the stars aligned and a project moved forward, what format would you want to see it in?
I'm something of a minority. I believe most fans want an animated series but I want a Stranger Things-style live action full 90s nostalgia prestige series... 4 seasons of about 10 episodes each would be my personal ideal, with a movie-length finale. Pure fantasy though; Animorphs simply doesn't exist in the popular consciousness.
the scream I scrumpt when you mentioned Tom at the end X_X
not sure why you did any of that but I love it. Keep up the good work.
This is... I hate how I was going "Yeah... this could work"
Damn, you went hard into the paint with this. You're a real diehard Animorphs fan. I'm hitting subscribe.
I'll give you 11 cinnamon buns out of 10 for that Moses quip. Very under-discussed!
Which part, are you talking about the Moses thing itself in general, or Rachel seeming to pull the same trick in the AniFandom? I mean I agree either way...
17:23 I read the text and LOLed 😂
What an awesome journey and mental exercise. I love this❤
I enjoyed every part of this
Thanks!
Well done as usual.
Also you could in theory bring back the Animorphs that ran into The One at the end by having them defeat The One from within the amalgamation and doing so de-absorbs them, probably with some side effects from being in a merged brain space. Possibly leading to another story after that where the team has to deal with revived, cube exposed Tom squad.
then you can resume their former trajectories where this doesn't necessarily fix broken relationships or guarantee they don't drift away if you want to keep the "war doesn't have clean, happy endings" element.
a fanfic I really like, Eleutherophobia, retconned Rachel's death in a way I really liked. essentially, the Yeerks who killed her forced one of their hosts to acquire her body, killed said host to provide a fake corpse, and then kept her alive as another host body. it was a really fun way to redo her death; it kept a sense of consequence, made sense with the overall plotline, and allowed the characters to have a rescue sequence where they got her back.
edit: it also saved Tom by having him get badly injured in morph during the final battle, having his Yeerk abandon him, and having him pull off a last-second morph into a bird while falling through the air. they also made him an estreen so he could pull this off
Whenever Animorphs fanfic comes up, Eleutherophobia gets mentioned in the first 30s. I read one of the chapters once... I really should commit to actually reading it at some point.
Okay, I'm almost halfway in. So you're . . . Chrono Triggering her? (Eats popcorn and continues.)
Ah . . . kinda. Loved the ending. XD
Well I had to look up Chrono Trigger real quick but... a little bit, yeah.
@@torren5950 Oh, man, if you've never played Chrono Trigger, it's a must! Even apart from the 90s nostalgia vibes, it's a great game. 😁
@@torren5950 Play Chrono Trigger.
There is no "should", this is a "must".
Maybe the Chee had something to do with Moses ...see as how they claim to know him 😂
2:55 I've never seen an actual screenshot of this glossary! EELimist? Nah.
Yeah I don't know where that originally come from but it almost seems like a practical joke to me
This is so fucking funny. Thank you so much.
I really like your breakdown of how to get a dummy copy of Rachael, but you're totally ignoring that the Arn are matter geneticists and could just clone a body for the Ixcila in a couple of days or weeks.
lovethis so much holy shit
hahahah calling the city Morphington is genius
I've been trying to get that to catch on as the unofficial name of their town for literal years...
I will join the effort
Wrong, the most mindless creature on earth is the koala.
So Rachel doesn't need the coat but she needs to sleep 20 hours a day?
I haven't seen anyone do an Animorphs Iceberg video.
I'd be happy to if there were a standard Animorphs Iceberg...
@@torren5950I found one I though was pretty good. Mind if I link it to you as a recommendation?
Go for it!
@@torren5950 Did my reply go though?
No, and it's not in "Held for Review" either, but on my dashboard I can tell there are comments that I can't see because the total number listed vs. the number visible doesn't match. I have a feeling YT just filters out responses containing 3rd party links because of spam.
I did some searching myself, were you referring to either Wolfizen's iceburg on imgur or batosaur's on reddit? If so, I can work off those. If it's something else, if you can give me a username and the site name I'm pretty sure I can find it.
3:37 Animorphs/Terminator crossover?
22:35 Well, there you go haha
If you discuss time travel, it's more or less mandatory that the Terminator franchise will show up.
So I guess you throw "Many Worlds Theory" directly in the trash? Look, until someone has confirmed that quantum wormholes have transported a person from one time-space to another, you can't really say anything definitively. I love how confident you are in the rules of time travel. it's adorable. What an absolute human.
Edit: Literally everything else you said was functionally interesting though.
I don't mind criticism but I've debated whether to respond to this comment because I'm not sure if it was left in good faith or not. But if nothing else, this may benefit/entertain other readers. So... yes, as a storytelling device (and that's all time travel is), I generally don't like multiple worlds, especially if there are infinitely many. Every character choice becomes meaningless because in an infinite-worlds scenario, there's necessarily somewhere else where they did the opposite thing. Granted, maybe reality really does work that way--respected physicists like Sean Carroll (among many others) think so but for storytelling purposes, I don't use that.
For time travel, I take the most inspiration from the writer MJ Young's "A Primer on Time" (you can google it; it's been around for quite awhile and one look at the website will definitely confirm that). He also doesn't use many worlds, and outlines 3 possible outcomes of time travel: the infinite loop (bad), the n-jump (good), and the sawtooth snap (ambiguous). While I don't use Young's terminology and probably don't 100% adhere to his 'rules', the path I have Cassie & her Chee accomplice taking, and the cheesy graphic that goes with it, is a sawtooth snap terminating in an N-jump. They need to go through at least 3 cycles because the Chee that goes back in time with her is slightly modified in each iteration based on whether or not it "remembers" its future self being in the past. This could in fact be disastrous--we might end up with a Russian nesting doll of recursive memories piling up inside this one Chee. I didn't address that in the video because a) storytelling, b) too long already. My personal "way out" of this problem is the assumption that the time traveling Chee can selectively choose what to broadcast on CheeNet and therefore after only a few iterations the "present" and 'future" Chee reach equilibrium and the sawtooth terminates.
But after all that... this video is nothing but a fanfic, meant to appeal to a small fandom, presented in the form of an essay rather than prose.
Edit: I spent all that time focusing on the Chee and realize I didn't reconcile when it is/is not ok to take a human out of the past, which is probably the bigger gripe. Because I'm not using many worlds, I can' t take a person out of the timeline without ruining cause and effect. e.g. if someone died in 1999, I can't "rescue" them from 1998 because everything they were supposed to do in their last year of life can't happen now. But I *can* do it if I know the person was already "done", e.g. about to be dead. Granted you could argue that since I'm robbing the universe of the matter that made up their body, the butterfly effect still applies--who knows what 60kg of missing matter might do to the timeline over a few years. But since time travel is not real and therefore always causes issues when you try to treat it as such, this is where I'm ok drawing the line for story purposes.
Makes me wonder if they're going to edit the graphic novels to remove the weird shit if they get that far.
I think we're only guaranteed up through book 6 and then whether the GN adaptations continue at all will be entirely contingent on sales figures.
With a single artist though, we cannot expect more than 2 a year which means, honestly, the series will never be finished without bringing on more artists.
If I were the benevolent dictator, I would want to get through book 13, then go right to 19 + the David trilogy and then honestly skip to like book 49, and use different artists to adapt each of the Chronicles. Yes that would leave massive holes in the narrative but we've never gotten to see any kind of adaptation of those mid and late series high points.
