- Being a custom horse drawn restoration shop, I try to juggle multiple projects and different customers, often times at the same time. The old adage, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" is sometimes true, within reason. Balancing time-lines and need requirements is often very challenging for most small business operators. Even after almost 42 years in this business I still find myself doing the juggling act.

Very much exhibited in these videos.
thanks for another absorbing episode
Good mottos.
I love watching a craftsman who loves what he does. Dave is a true craftsman, and if he doesn't love what he does, he hides it better than anyone I've ever watched...
Something poetic about sweeping up the old wood debris and putting them into the wood stove to help warm the shop.
Well, you cannot let good fuel go to waste.
Come on people if you watch this true craftsman and enjoy his videos as much as I do please take just a second and give him a THUMBS UP! I appreciate this fellow for his craft, skill and dedication to restoring history!
And he‘s a hell of a showman too, if You ask me 😁👍.
I had just noticed that fact myself and it doesn't make sense. If I had to pick only one channel to watch this would be the one. THUMBS UP from Australia.
You wrote too soon as now there are 11 thumbs down. Probably snowflakes who just can’t stand to see someone working and being productive.
Some of us hit the thumbs up BEFORE watching the video. We know it will be great before we've even seen it.
16 Amish guys clicked thumbs down.
Another friday night hangin with Dave,...life is good...
Busy keeping the world of horse drawn vehicles rolling and still had spare time to do some creative video editing. 🐴🐴Four out of four horses approved this video🐴🐴
I like these "day in the life" videos. It feels like hanging out with you in the shop for a day and seeing all the various challenges that pop up.
The good neighbourly thing to do, making sure your neighbours have functioning wheels.
Especially when they're Amish. Respect to them.
@@spaert They have beautiful farms.
It seems like Dave is never in a hurry, even at 2X speed! One job after another. Smooth action, no wasted time. Great instruction, Dave. Enjoyed this adventure.
You are marvelously calm and collected. A phenomenal craftsman. If you’re that cool as a dad, you driven your children crazy.
Does anyone else feel like could do this kind of work just by watching. He just makes it look easy. A hallmark of a master. The truth is it’s far from easy
A new stove? keep warm and stay safe, the weekend wouldn't be the same without Engle's Coach Shop.
This video was a little bit of a surprise for me, and in a good way. Usually the tasks at hand are pretty routine and focused, but with all the interruptions to the main project, I felt like we were getting some extra treats. It was a little bit of everything, and I liked seeing the cleanup and organizing of tools and materials, too. I feel that is a very helpful thing, particularly for younger craftspeople to see. Developing some good shop habits can't be over-stressed, and it's always nice to see how other people are managing their work environments. When you are cleaning up, you have a little time to reflect on all sorts of things, from what you've been doing so far, to what you'll be doing later, and just thinking pleasant thoughts. So this video gets an extra special thumbs up.
Thank you. Trying to show some more of how 'normal' is around here. Good tidy habits are good safety habits to my thinking.
@@EngelsCoachShop Yes. We can't try too hard to impress safety on anyone, whether they are experienced or not.
Bill, i hope to get out there some day to meet you and visit your shop. Believe me, the only thing you will want me driving is the broom. Thanks for another great video!
Dave, sometimes you worry that what you're doing may seem boring to those who watch your videos. Even though you may have done the same thing hundreds or thousands of times it is never boring. We just love watching a master at work. See you have a new stove. Getting modern on us. LOL.
I find the videos very relaxing to watch.
Thanks. Actually it might be age factoring in on the new stove. Hoping to haul less wood.
@@EngelsCoachShop been heating my home for 40 years with wood. I sure understand the age thing...
That's one way to do the dishes..
I was going to ask Dave if that was a new kind of dish washer. Looked pretty effective to me.
That new stove is certainly a camera hog but also noticed an ornate disused stove by the steam bender. Ever used?
@@jonwatson9765 Yes, I use that stove on occasion. The steamer heats that side mostly though.
These videos are genius. They're produced and paced superbly.
Like when an old friend comes to visit. Thanks for the hard work you guys put into these videos. I truly enjoy watching your craftsmanship in action.
Great work, I restored a 1925 Buick 20 years ago, rebuilt the wooden wheels, had the hood bows steam bent, probably didn’t appreciate the volume of work involved, but I was young!
Love the knowledge you provide,
Keith, Sydney, Australia
Thanks Keith.
Why do they even bother with a thumbs down option on your vids? Nobody ever uses it! You’re pretty amazing Dave! A joy to watch a master craftsman in his element!
At this moment there have been 12 👎🏻
Unfortunately none of them have the “balls” to leave a comment explaining their choice.
Fortunately RUclips counts 👎🏻 the same as a 👍🏻 because they only count either as an interaction. At least that’s how another RUclipsr explained it a couple years ago.
Thanks Tami.
GREAT JOB, GREAT VIDEO, SQUEAKY WHEEL ALWAYS GET THE GREASE, SEE NEXT WEEK... [ NOW LET'S GO TO WORK ]
It's always enjoying to watch your videos on repairing and building wheels and wagons. Thanks for sharing them.
Good for you for moving the Amish to the head of the line. He probably needed it and appreciated it more than some of the squeakers. Thanks for another pleasant video.
Yeah but will he liketh and subscribeth?
I like to watch Dave using power tools, especially handheld ones. He understands that "leaning" on them just produces bad work as well as destroying the tools. He has a beautifully light touch.
your week was alot like mine. Get started on one project and another rush job pops up. I feel for ya, but you're not in there alone
Just the way it goes huh.
Once again, thanks for posting!
25 minutes have gone by and it seems like half that. Time flies by when the show holds your interest. Do you ever get a lull in the shop or is it always like this? As always, thank you for sharing. Have a great 2021 and stay healthy.
My thoughts exactly. Very enjoyable and educational. Not that I would be making any repairs or building any wheels I like knowing how it is done. If I lived near him I would volunteer to help if he would be agreeable. I would rather visit his shop for a day than go to some art museum.
Dave's a lot better than the history channel, and his video composition is worthy of recognition!
This is pretty normal.
@@billmorris2613 Would be great to spend a day there,as long as not just under foot,Great video
I love your "dish washer"! ❤🌅🌵😷
Dave - I live in England and we have been under some severe lockdowns due to the virus. You should know that your videos have been a lifeline for me during this difficult time. I just love your skill and quiet confidence. Thank you. I almost feel as if I could build a Borax wagon in my funny little workshop.
You are a master at your camera work just as you are a master at your wagon making skills. Thank you for sharing your craft with us.
I could see many wagon wheels and other horse drawn equipment put on buildings or at places where people can admire them and they serve as a decoration. Especially wagon wheels are a great decoration item today. But lately I couldn't have not to notice there's less and less of these. Thinking there are no craftsmen (here in Europe) to replace these, and especially you won't want to replace your old wagon wheel which serves as a decoration because "what else could you do with it, right?", hardly anyone would want to replače them by a newly crafted wheel costing much more in today's prices. So I was ruing those times gone by. Then I came upon this video and that gives me some satisfaction that this ages old craft still didn't disappear and that there are still guys who know how to do these things and, most importantly, they catch it on video for eternity! 👍🏻❤️
Everything about this channel is excellent and awesome!
The cinematography, the editing, the content, the narration and most of all the star of the show.
Thanks for investing the huge amount of time in producing these videos to educate and entertain us Dave.
You are an inspiration and example to all of us.
Stay healthy!
Thank you Gary. Glad to hear they're worth your time.
Dave , I have had the privilege to watch you do these repairs quite a few times, however I set here hovering over my screen in rapt attention! Thanks I I just enjoy watching your craftsmanship, the unbelievable skill that you have in your hands! I'm getting ready to build a closet organizer, I know for a fact if I had a thimble full of your skill, it would be the talk of the town here in CERES, CA😁
Glad to have you here. Thanks.
One of my favorite episodes ever! I'm so proud of myself when I know what comes next in a process. By the way, the camera and post work was immaculate. I especially appreciated that the music bed was not at all distracting. Wonderful! Thanks for all your efforts.
Thank you. I'm trying to demonstrate 'normal' better.
Dave, I know that making these videos is slowing you down, but you gotta keep the doors open also. Thank you for sharing your craft. It is motivational as I work on getting my side hustle off the ground.
1.7K views after this is online for 22 minutes. I spent a good deal of time searching the Internet for another wainwright. There is one in the U.K., and none other in the USA. But saying there is but one Dave Engels is still an understatement.
Does the Englishmen have a channel?
Like the English man bit yes he does stevie bean I think it is just checked yes it is hope this helps from oxford England 🏴 Steven bean is the spelling I think
If you search wheelwrights you get here www.wheelwrights.org/workingwheelwright.php which has a much longer list.
I could not agree with you more!
Never a dull moment around there is there Dave. Keeps the doors open and the bills paid. Thanks for sharing with us enjoyed the work. Fred 👍👍👏🏻👏🏻
I really enjoy watching you and listening to your commentary. I have interest in these types of things and want to try it some time. I am learning a lot and getting good ideas of how to do things. May you live forever and never lose your love of keeping lost skills alive!
WORK You cant complain about that, Especially during the old Covid day's.. Nice to see the work coming in a lot of different places that Shut there Doors from the covid.. But on the other hand We Love your Shop..
Thanks for taking the tome to share the week's projects Dave! And good on ya for getting the Amish rolling again in the winter time. Take care and see you next week.
This has got to be my favorite video intro on RUclips. Love that majestic music, makes me feel like I’m riding the open plains on adventure!
Although the vehicles here are of yesteryear, its like a modern day service/repair centre. Cars everywhere all needing different repairs and servicing! Ideally more staff would help, (would they have the skills/knowledge, you dont plug these into a diagnostic computer!) Customers have to wait, you cant put a stop watch on a craftsman! 👍👍
The part of this video that struck me was how Mr. Engels carefully replaced his tools where they belonged, whether on a hook or on a drawer or with other tools of the same sort. It's a lesson I have tried to learn for a long time, and still need to remember to practice. Thank you, sir for the example.
Lol, Dave, I love you're flamable dish washer... :-)
"You gotta get back home" No triple-A for buggies.
They don’t need Triple A.
They have their community.
Dave you are a man after my own heart, thank you for these video's it just takes me back to when I served my time as a general engineer and blacksmith i'm now 70 years old and still in my home workshop every day. :)
Keep it up sir. Thanks.
Thanks Dave! Great to see real American craftsmanship!
Everything in it's place and a place for everything......10/10.
You are a pleasure to watch Mr. Engels.
Videos putting away his tools, love it. This is "didactic video". Look up the word didactic. Some craftsmen can work in a chaotic workshop, they seem to remember where everything is and get very upset if their bag lady arrangement is disturbed even slightly. They are the ones who suffer a shop fire or a finger removal incident. Journeyman Engel has the right idea. His shop setup alone is a thing of beauty and can be moved through without snags.
Each one of your videos I get lost looking at the walls in your shop. I would love to wander around in there and try to imagen what some of the things were used for. In my shop I make tools and jigs to do one job then save them on the wall. Your shop is also a trip into the past. Keep up the good work. The Woodman from Indiana.
Each shop has they're own personalities don't they.
One of the top 10 providers on youtube! Always look forward to your next video!
I can watch you work all day.
Your videos have become my daily meditation practice. Incredible work.
I am glad you put that 2X caption in there. I thought for a minute that you’d had one cup of coffee too many! 😁
You are busier than ever. I guess it's the knowledge of each job which guides you through the steps of multitasking. Where would you be without that giant belt sander. What a timesaver it is.
It is a beast.
It’s hard to have to prioritise jobs sometimes !
Love watching your videos... it makes my Friday evening!
Thanks Mr Engels.
So true.
Friday evening, 11 PM (here in Sweden). Yet another fascinating video. I like 😊
Dave, even if you had a 25 hr day it would get filled with something. I still enjoy watching and learning from a master. Keep the content coming.
Very true.
Making new wheels out of those rotted Sarven hubs reminded my of my uncle bragging about his old axe. He's had it 50 years. Only needed two new heads and four new handles but it's far superior to the new stuff nowadays.
Heard the same story about a family heirloom axe that came out west in a covered wagon😁
Brings all new meaning to the phrase "Gitter Done" you got some done Dave. An inch is as good as a mile if its in the right direction!. That new stove sure gives the shop a cozy feeling huh? Thanks again for sharing!
Such a pleasure to watch a true craftsman
Thumbs up!!!! Great work Dave!
I recall watching my granddad replace the rubber tires on wheelchairs, etc. In the 50s.
As I generally watch your videos while I have lunch it was nice to have lunch with you today.
Dear Dave, everything you do is very useful, instructive for the current and next generation, and very pleasant to watch and pacify! Thanks!
Thanks Dave another relaxing Saturday breakfast. As ever reminding me of all the things I've got to get done. I've got the parts of a dining table looking at me and 30yards of parquet to be laid and several pocket watches to be serviced, not all today though.
Wow.
These are a work of art and a pleasure to watch as you made them
Just love your work and your series, I wish I could spend a couple of months with you in your Workshop just watching how you do things. Unfortunately I'm an ex-pat Scotsman with an engineering background who's grandfather had a Blacksmith Shop/Wheelright/Engineering business, Im 83 now and now live in Australia so no chance of travelling to visit, so I'll just have to do with watching your terrific series which brings back great memories of watching my grandfather and his workers doing similar work as you do.Thank you Dave for making it possible for an old fella to follow your wonderful work keeping the old skills alive, your a great inspiration.
Dave, I give ALL your video's a thumbs up BEFORE selecting play!
Thank you.
Oh yeah, those Kirkland nuts are good, and the containers are outstanding for nuts and bolts and such!
Great video as always.. Thanks.. sitting by the fire with lunch brings back many fond memories.
Ah yes I recognize that buggy wheel with its black enameled finish, several Amish communities close to me,Thanks for another informative video.
I like your videos , some say why you watch them. I answered they are very relaxing and I find informative. I will never build a buggy or wagon wheel but your narration and calm matter of fact way of explaining what you are doing is very entertaining to me. Thank you
My oh my, the specialty tools that you have in your shop ...!
Always enjoyable to watch you doing your thing whatever it may be, Mr. Engle.
HELLO from las Vegas Nevada, thank you for sharing part of your week and GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
Just love Friday when I get to enjoy another display of great craftsmanship! I never tire of watching your work. I like that you include the pick up and put away and clean up steps that goes with any work that involves so much cutting, sanding, grinding and such. You even include feeding yourself and feeding the fire. Such an appetite that fire has!
After I watch the current video I go back and look at the comments from the one a week ago, paying particular attention to the ones Dave responds to. Lots of good stuff in there. Plus which, it looks like that old wood stove could have a RUclips channel of its own. The new one is a larger version of the one we have in our cabin the the AZ high country -- always good to have it available if the boiler stops.
Its very calming watching your videos Kinda brings a tranquility to life , very nice
That is also the reason I watch this videos. A superb craftsman that make thing's look easy in a very relaxing way.
One of the best channels on RUclips!!!!
You gave me a great idea not to have to do the dishes: just throw your plate in the stove!
Yep, but it helps when it's paper. Cowboy dishwasher.
I find it calming to watch this.
Today's lesson:. "A place for everything, everything in it's place."
Another great video Dave thank you for taking the time and effort to create this wonderful visit to your shop!
Great viewing,a pleasure to watch your work on your channel
It's great that you prioritize the Amish repairs...they are good folk :)
He's not prioritizing customers, he gives priority to the most urgent repair. That's part of good management.
That's what i think.
Hello Sir
It is as always. We will do a Projekt that need to be Done.
But than the phone rings and once the week is over .
We have Done alot of work and customers were very happy.
But the project isnt done . Okay thats live we only have two hands to work with .
Looking forward to see more of your great work
Thank you very much for sharing

8000 (almost) views, 1.3K thumbs up, and two ***hats!
Hey you two, if you don't like the video, why watch?
EVERY WEEK, Dave does a video on some kind of animal
drawn vehicle. We know what to expect, and, for the most
part, we get (HAPPILY) what we want! Dave, I ALWAYS
enjoy your videos, AND your work. I can't even come close
to your skills, but I can probably fix most of your tooling.
Thanks, for Postin'.
steve
I sure wish I had that 2X speed feature when I'm working in the shop.
I know how that goes... start work on task A, task B pops up, then task C, get it done, back to task B, task D pops up... but as long as progress continues on all the projects, they’ll get done.
Dave is showing off that fancy new stove!! Fancy drum brakes on that Amish wheel.
Been giving Dave a thumbs up since he started showing videos and will continue to do so as Dave is a masterful craftsman 👍👍
Thanks Paul.

If we were in the wilderness you would be more than happy if I had a Leatherman and could help you!
A surgical elevator works on a simple principle: No two objects can occupy the same space at the same time. If you wedge an object in the socket the root has to give and move out. A small screwdriver would also work!
Multitasking, but you still manage to get a good bit done! 👍🏼👍🏼😀
