Earrings can be made of any substance but the posts [part that goes through ear] are often stainless steel. I wouldn't assume that if you see stainless marked there that it means the whole earring is that.

that sword looking thing you found was a pop rivet. the are mostly used to put metal to metal together, like a stop sign to a metal post.
