There shouldn't be much difference between carbs and early FI systems if properly maintained. But it does have that lumpy 90 degree V4 characteristic when driving slow in the city and such.
@@MoePower2 I have 3rd gen and rpm is slightly bouncing at idle, maybe +-100rpm and I guess thats normal for 32 years old motorcycle but probably some sync can improve that. I have that lumpy feeling when I am down low at rpm in 2nd gear 2000-4000rpm and accelerating. It is like the bike is lurching forward-backward. I was thinking it is the chain maybe but maybe this engine doesn't like low rpms?
@@CptSlow89 Mine bounce a little too, depending on temperature. I think it's normal for a high rpm engine to have a slightly rough idle, so I wouldn't worry too much. Modern bikes often have variable cam timing as well as FI, to help with the idling and low rpm issues. Mine doesn't like accelerating hard below 3-4000rpm. It does pull, but you'll feel the engine vibrating a little. Slack in the chain will mostly affect the bike when going on and off the throttle or when coasting at lower rpm's, making the bike jerk a little as the chain is taking up the slack. It is quite noticeable when the chain is too slack.
@@MoePower2 I measured slack and should be within the limits in the manual. Maybe the chain is old and stiff. Carb V type engine is not for a rookies. 1000cc FI with 150hp is more friendly. This is because of throttle response. You really need to have a steady hand.
my 2011 yamaha r1 does 5.15 0-100 mph, this is about 5.80 or so i calculated...pretty damn good tbh! i have a 97 vfr 750 too and i always thought it was quite good to 100mph
You must count the different final gear ratio of the two bikes: the VFR must reach a lower top speed, so it has a shorter final gear ratio. With the same ratio the R1 would have more advantage

Temp gauge usually show about 25-35% on these bikes at operating temperature, it's normal. Mine only reach the middle when idling or driving slow. It was very cold outside when this was filmed, so it ran a little cooler than usual. The angle of the camera make it look even worse.
