We are on our 2nd English Bulldog puppy. Unfortunately our first (Dozer) who was 12 years old past away from cancer this past April. Definitely do your research on the breeder and get pet insurance!!! It's well worth it and will be needed. Dozer blew out his ACL when he was around 8 and that is NOT a cheap surgery! They are great dogs and not a day goes by they dont make you smile or laugh!! Very smart dogs!!
English Bulldog are psychologically awesome, but physically damaged by decades of esthetic selections going against any reasonable health selection. If you want an healthy bulldog you should not take any EB, no matter how good the breeder is, instead you should take a Continental Bulldog, or some OEB, or, if you are very sportive and want to spend daily hours running with your dog, a Leavitt. That's the only way to have an healthy bulldog. For sure it will take to look how good the breeder is, but hoping a strong selection of breeders will insure an healthy EB is like hoping to get an healthy meal by choosing which fast food restaurant is the best : it wont be the worse, but it wont ever be the best.
@@Bloodysugar The only way to have a healthy bulldog? Nonsense. You can get an English Bulldog and it will be as healthy as any other breed. You cannot know ahead of time is all. Your statement is false though. If English Bulldogs were awful and sickly then the breed would not be so popular.
@@pingamalinga There's nothing worse to any pet than being a trend for humans, and among trendy pets English Bulldogs are one of the best example why being designed to be popular is the worst that can happen to a breed. Respiratory issues make the healthiest English Bulldog's getting out of breath way faster than the vast majority of dog breeds. Many even puking mucus while out of breath because their respiratory system is not only limitating their breath capacity but also messing with their mucus production and elimination. These issues exist as soon as a dog has a muzzle shorter than 1/4 of the skull, it is physiologically mechanical. If you find an other breed with such low respiratory capacity it will be because their muzzle is way too short (French Bulldogs, Carlins etc...) Muzzle extreme shortness also comes with digestive issues (because they absorb too much air when they eat), cardiac issues (because heart tries to compensate the lack of oxygenation by beating faster and harder, and because it also generates sleep apnea making them suffering even when they sleep), soft palate syndrome (involving heavy surgery at a young age)... and that's far to be the only trouble EBs suffer. Bad weight/muscular ratio combined to joints hypermobility and twisted bone architecture generating chronic sprains, severe dysplasias... conjunctivitis and other eyes infection because of falling eyelids... several dermatological issues and allergies... miscarriage became so current that birth by C-Section is now the norm... Have a look at Imelda Anghern's work, whom, after 20 years of breeding one of the healthiest English Bulldog line (Pickwicks) dropped the ball and created the Continental Bulldog as it was the only way for her to really fix EB health issues. It took David Leavitt decades to create OEBs, and he did so in order to get what English Bulldogs used to be before this breeding mess handicapped them. These are two of the best dog breeders in history, totally dedicated to Bulldogs, and they are wrong because English Bulldogs are popular ? After 20 years of documented alerts we start to see countries (Norway first) forbidding English Bulldog breeding and importation because of the inability to correct their health issues. They have based their law upon decades of veterinarian observations and whistle blowing, all pointing to the conclusion that English Bulldogs are suffering because of what breeders did to them, and that it is too late to correct this mess. It started to be observed during the 70's, and not only 50 years later this observation is still true, but BE's conditions are even worse than by that time. How many decades, and how many severe health issues generated by the physiological determination of this breed, will it take before people thinking like you do hear English Bulldogs are suffering ?
I'm well aware of severe selective breeding being ultimately unwise for any breed. However, you stated the only way to have a healthy bulldog is to not buy or adopt an English Bulldog. That is 100% false. Tons of people (including myself) have had wonderful healthy English Bulldogs. They're wonderful pets.
I want a bulldog and can't wait. I have done a lot of research on the breed. I agree that having structure in their life will make a better pet. What is the first video you recommend before getting the puppy. I need a puppy to sit, stay and not go outside until I say so because we have deer and other animals here. What would be your order of videos to watch? Thank you for these tips.
Loo training's not too difficult. Just takes a bit of time and patience. Couple of weeks routine and effort is pretty much all it takes. Just need to train some simple manners such as come, wait etc. No SIT with our girl though because we're going to take her out to show so instead of sit, we need her to STAND.
Bringing our female English bulldog day after Christmas. She has a grey/blue coat and blue eyes. Breeder has used a litter pan. Never heard of that method.
I just got my first English Bulldog pup. She is 12 weeks old. And she is an absolute terror. She doesnt like going outside in our grass to poop. I spent an hour outside to walk her on a leash. And she refuses to poop outside. As soon as she comes in side she wants to poop on the floor.
Hey Wade, thanks for watching! We would recommend taking your dogs water away an hour or so before bed and letting when out for a wee just before you put them to bed. Let them out again first thing in the morning and give them their water back. Hope that's helpful!
@@fenrirenglishbulldogshow4395 what do you do when they still go multiple times even with no water? Ours is 9 weeks and even with no water at night he will still go 2 or 3 times in the middle of the night

@@fenrirenglishbulldogshow4395 yes I let him out before bed and yes remove his water about an hour before. He doesn't sleep in his crate at night, he is kept in the room with us. I’m an Over The Road Truck Driver, I’m thinking about getting me an English Bulldog, I’m on the road for 3 weeks, what routine do you suggest for me since everyday will be different for me??
I feed both of my English bulldog at 10am then at 6 pm one is 4 yo the other 1 year. Just got a puppy from a litter and is a month old so I’ll be learning on my 4yo son with his 1 month old son
Hi I need help… I both an English Bulldog at 8 weeks old when I got him took him to the vet because he was having diarrhea with blood come to find out he had hookworms got that taking care of then went back for a check up and he had a bacterial infection got that taking care of.. he’s been of of the bacteria medication for a few days now and he is still having diarrhea. He’s 16 weeks now… help ?
We will be getting our English bulldog puppy while it is still very cold out, in a few weeks still tons of snow on the ground, any tips for finding a spot to potty when it's so cold and a a lot of snow?
My bully initially hated the snow. Eventually walking him in the street after the plow was ok. He sniffed and peed and pooped as always. Just get them used to snow. You can also shovel yard and give them a spot until they're comfortable. Also I used to put a little coat on Hambone. He liked it.
So i did do my research and i am a very experienced bordeaux owner but my bulldog is a nightmare your video has left me feeling a bit useless if i am honest because i am 8 weeks in and cant get him to do anything except not pull on a lead. He will toilet outside but then inside anyway so i feel 8 weeks in i should give up after watching this.
It requires patience. It’s also a full time job, Also it is a puppy, puppies make mistakes and you shouldn’t have those kinds of expectations. If they don’t progress in their training that is due to the lack of the owner’s care. Suggest taking training classss or private one on one if you aren’t experienced raising a puppy
Thank you so much for your videos. We are getting our second english bulldog in two days. Our first one was 2 and already potty trained when we got her. Do you have training videos for other dogs....specifically german shepherds? We have one shepherd that occasionally has jealousy issues toward our other shepherd and I'm looking for some training tips we may not have tried yet in order to correct the behavior. Any direction you may have would be great. Thanks so much!!

It's so confusing when people call British bulldogs English bulldogs. English means old English. British means Churchill. I don't trust someone who doesn't even know what it's called.
I love a bulldogge . This dog is not olde English. This dog came after and is half the size . I have not ever heard the term British bulldog I dunno much all I know is my Olde is a much larger dog with less issues I understand.
A tip. If you have an English bulldog make sure you keep it outside. Esp if you live in Texas or somewhere super hot. During the summer esp and never clean their wrinkles and feed them as much as he wants because a fat bulldog, outside in the heat is a happy bulldog
I love English bulldogs my grandma and grandpa used to have one name peaches thanks for the information. I'll watch your video almost everyday.
My takeaway: if I want a disciplined pup/dog, I have to be disciplined also!
Just brought an English bulldog puppy home today. Very thorough and informative video to get started
