One must understand that it was Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who unified the Sikhs divided in several misls. Amritpal is forgetting the fact that the tradition of gurus is inherent to India. Guru Granth Sahib has verses from all religions belonging to this land. Our Constitution is inclusive & provides multiple forums to accommodate any grievances .The North Eastern States stand testimony to this ,people in power currently were erstwhile rebels. The history of Punjab is a confluence of various influence dating back to the Indus Valley Civilization & has been ruled by the Mauryans, Mughals, Sikh Empire & the British in the past. Sikh leaders decided to be part of India when given an option in 1947 & hence it is part of India. Let's deconstruct all the points he made for a separate Punjab.
1. India was a British invention. Logical fallacy for WhatsApp university graduates, India was called Hindustan or Bharat well before the modern era, nations get renamed as per the dominant cuture of each era, last one was British colonisation which stuck to refer Hindustanis as "Indians", hence "India".
2. Killings in Punjab, killings happen everywhere on the planet, even in the wild, that's planet Earth for you. I am sure killings also happen in Kaneda.
3. Drugs, again a societal/cultural issue exacerbated by a border with Pakistan which benefits from pumping dirt cheap opium from Afghanistan into Punjab to earn quick bucks, keep the youth unemployable, hence exaggerate the already existing unemployment, add to that popping up of cab drivers like Amritpal who then excuse this as a reason for a separate country. I say its a win win for both ISI and Khalistanis, they are the ones who benefit the most from Punjab's drug epidemic.
4. Culture, funny how he cheery picks cultural nuances to suit his narrative. For his secessionist views, he excuses his Punjabi culture, but fails to add up that the same Punjabi culture is responsible for the drug epidemic in Punjab which is bizarrely his one of his main arguments for a separate country. Different cultures have been living on this planet for centuries, especially in India. To call for a separate state based on that only shows your lack of knowledge about the history of the land you are claiming to speak for. There's a reason why Punjabis are Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims in equal proportions, ain't no one religious identity can claim to speak for the entire Punjab. Call yourself what you really are, don't hide behind fake secular garb when your actual intention is a fascist Khalsa republic, no different from an Islamic republic or a Hindu Rashtra.
