- Is it possible to fly from Singapore to the US for the weekend?
Singapore opened a new Vaccinated Traveler Lane with the United States in October 2021, allowing for bi-directional quarantine-free travel. As I was not able to take PTO (or Annual Leave, as it's called in Singapore), I found myself wondering whether it would be possible to fly to the US as a weekend trip.
After browsing the available flights, I concluded Singapore Airlines' flight to Los Angeles was the most viable option, as the outbound SQ38 leaves Singapore at 7:55pm Friday night, arriving in Los Angeles at 8:50pm. On the return leg, leaving Los Angeles Saturday night at 11:20pm on SQ37 would mean a return to Singapore Monday morning at 7:30am, in time for a full day of work.
International travel requirements due to Covid-19 complicated this tight schedule, but I happily took the challenge.
Airline: Singapore Airlines
Flight: SQ38, SQ37
From: SIN (Singapore)
To: LAX (Los Angeles)
Aircraft: A350-900
Registration: 9V-SMY, 9V-SMZ
Flight Time: 14 hours, 16.5 hours
Date: October 2021

Thank you brother, sending all my love to beautiful Bangladesh!
Hi great video. Are they strict with the 23kg baggage allowance. Or they will allow few kg over such as 25kg.
Thank you Duane! It depends on the check-in agent; some are more lenient, others are more strict. I wish you good luck! :-)
@@mywindowseat thanks fo the comment. Are you American from CA?
Nice videos! Def subscribing! Beat of luck you will rock it

I thought you went with RSAF Cargo plane for a non-stop-round-trip-mid-air-fueling. hahaha.
I wish!!! Please hook me up with RSAF if you’ve got their contact!! 🙏🏼😁
Pretty cool to be able to do what you did.
Thanks Eduardo!
I've done some insane weekend road trips when I was younger But you just beat any I did!! There's regular non-stop flights from Singapore to LAX? We're considering doing a non-stop CEB to LAX this spring if we go back but we'd have to book separate tickets from LAX to PHX if we do.
Yep, SIA has daily non-stop flights to LAX, SFO, and JFK. Oh, is there a direct CEB to LAX flight? Which airline is serving it? By the way, I saw the PAL crew at LAX, and thought of you. Have you taken that route before?
Hi there, I am going to LA in November with my family. Watched your video in stunned amazement! Wow, I don't know how you made it with no jet lag whatsoever!
Btw, can you share where you did your PCR test in LA? My plan is to do the 1 hr PCR test at LAX, but that costs US$199.
The other PCR tests in LA take about 1 to 3 days before you get test results.
Can you let me know details for where to get 5 hrs test results at the price you stated.
I would appreciate any further advice or pointers you may have.
Thank you!
Hi Irene,
thanks for watching my video and your message! I did my Covid test at the testing center directly at LAX. If you Google for “LAX Covid test”, it will take you directly to the site where you can book.
Let me know if you have any problems finding it, or you have any other questions about the trip.
Wishing you a wonderful and safe journey!
Stefan

Thank you so much! Really appreciate your tip!
Great video, btw!
My pleasure! And I will be happy to help you with any further questions you might have about getting into and back from the US.
Planning to head to the US from SG soon. i never knew a weekend trip was possible! Great video and lovely to see you enjoy your trip with your long time friends. 😄 Wondering if you could share details on where you took the ART test in SG and the cost?
Thanks for your comment Anna; indeed it was a great trip! I would not recommend the hospital I went to, as I had to que for an hour. The next time I would probably just go to one of the smaller clinics, a friend told me there was no wait at all. You just have to make sure the clinic is able to print your passport number on the test results. You can find a list of ART providers at the following link (scroll down to the table titled " COVID-19 Test Prices"):

@@mywindowseat danke schön! 🙂
You should use the holiday included to have a longer stay.
That's a good idea; hopefully next time! 😀
I want the Indian food 😋 So glad you could hang with friends! 🤓
And I wish I could share the Indian food with you! ❤️
Hi, I am your new subscriber:) I am planing to travel to Singapore next month, my concern is the turnover time for the pre departure test result. I am traveling on the 16th Jan flight departure at 10.25pm. Must I take my Covid test on 14th Jan at 10.25pm in order to meet within 48 hours ? Also, wonder if test from Walgreens or CVS are accepted by SIA. Appreciate your help :)
Hi Joanne, I’m excited to have you as a new subscriber! And so cool that you’re coming to Singapore. Let me try to address your questions (do keep in mind the regulations change often):
I am assuming your flight on the 16th is the one going into Singapore, right? As per current regulations, you could take your Pre-Departure Covid test (PDT) in the US starting any time Jan 14th. It could even be 8am on the 14th (the rule is not “within 48 hours”, but rather “within 2 days before departure for Singapore”.
On another note, ART tests are sufficient for your PDT, no need to do PCR. ART tests generally only take 30 minutes, so your window for testing is large.
You can take it at Walgreens / CVS, as long as the certificate will be in English (not an issue in the US 😛), has your name, and either Date of Birth or passport number.
@@mywindowseat thank you so so much for your reply !! That ease my mind now ! Of course I will check for updates as the regulations change often … yes I am flying into Singapore on 16th Jan. I am traveling from Dallas to LA on the same day by domestic flight and am sure I can show them the same report :) Thank you so much for your help ! Keep on with your good work and I will always support by watching and click like on your videos !!
Hi there! For pre-departure test to US, an ART will be sufficient? May I know where did you get tested? Thanks!
I would not recommend the hospital I went to, as I had to queue for an hour. The next time I would probably just go to one of the smaller clinics. You just have to make sure the clinic is able to print your passport number on the test results. @@mywindowseat thanks a lot!!
Do you take the ART test or PCR test before flight back to Singapore on VTL flight?
Wow, I am surprised it is possible to fly to the US and back in Sg over the weekend!
I even was surprised myself 🤣
How much was the ticket to US??
Miles
stephan brother which country citizen you
Hi where did you do your pre departure test? The folks at Singapore airlines have told me I can only do a PCR test for departure to LA, was that your experience too?
Hi Sara, an ART test is enough to get into the US. You can find a list of clinics here:

Not really; I think my inner clock was so confused with this weekend trip, I could choose to be awake or asleep at any time. 😃

Hey 👋😌
HI
Hi
All information is great, and thank you. However I disliked the condescending remarks on Indian food. May be try to be a little more respectful and tolerant towards others’ food and culture. BTW you can specify the kind of meal you want or you don’t on SQ flights. May be you can try that next time??
Hi Mohua, I think this was a misunderstanding. I LOVE Indian food, and always order the Indian Vegetarian meal when I fly SQ. My excited statements were not sarcasm, it was real excitement. 😁
