Luck has a little to do with it, thats a given. I have noticed though, that the more persistent I am--the luckier I get. Made your own luck Spencer, Congrats man
Luck favors the prepared, or some crap like that. I'll keep fishing either way. Battling a cold at the moment. I never get sick, so this is stupid. Thanks for watching man!
Great butterfly metaphor I have actually torn a zipper trying to get out of my we all hate the turtles that destroyed the bait and rigs and headaches and Gars are a nuisance but love the way you kept fishing like we all do over and over and it paid off with the big fatty flati great job
Like these videos a lot. A lot of people out here making videos too dorky for me. Well I flathead fish in philly soon to start making videos these videos fill my time. Keep it up
I 'un'fortunately relate to this one a lot haha the multiple skunks in a row is always a drag. It seems like Arizona is somewhat similar to your fishing in terms even the best guys get skunked fairly often. It's not like back east where if you have bait in the river, you'll catch channels, flats, and blues day and night. I probably went a good 15 nights in a row of no flats in 2017. You just have to expect it even if the fishing has been good. I also don't like fishing in tents and relate well to the butterfly emerging haha! I'm digging the longer 'experience' style videos!
Good to know I'm not the only one. I'd be worried about a rattler sneaking into my sleeping bag over there😁 I have a few short videos coming but I'm working on capturing the experience better. Thanks for being the man! Btw, could you link that headlamp you mentioned?
Been watching all your videos! Outstanding content man. I fish a small river that looks incredibly similiar to the ones you fish. Love the elusive flatheads. All of em here are a green or yellow color. 3 straight skunk trips in a row right now. (Meanwhile my buddy has caught a 37 28 and tons of 15s) going out tomorrow wish me luck! I've got the beard maybe I'll try a mustache. 😂
I am pleased I'm not the only one to pick up blankety blank cheque book and pens ! That was a nice one you got in the end to get that monkey off your back. If we caught every time it would stop us from fishing we live for the unexpected rod bending clicker screaming takedown. Keep up the to fishing and tutorials. Thanks Spencer you do keep me entertained.
U ever seen the uni knot snell. U can snell a hook while connect to main line. Pull the line through the hook eye make a loop do the uni knot and cinch. Pretty sweet. Seen Deiter melborn do it
Thanks man! I've noticed the long nose gar seem to fight way better than the short nose we have up here. I'm gonna have to try and eat one someday tho.
Yes, the longnose that are prominent in my area make runs like carp and like to jump out of the water. The nice thing is that since they’re so hard to hook, the majority of the time they fight all the way to the bank and then just let go. Works out perfectly!
Good thing for notifications. I forgot it was video day. Nice fish to end your skunk streak. I still need to get my 209 to you to look at the clicker sometime, but the last month has been hectic for me. You seriously called that beaver a loser that's freaking hilarious. .lmao!.
I love catching gar. They're good eating too! Haven't been able to catch an alligator gar yet, they're rare in my part of TN. I'd love to catch a monster one, one day. Good catch, you def worked hard for it. :)
River Certified you should def try them! Just be careful when you’re cleaning them. Their eggs are toxic to humans. And try to cook the meat as soon as possible after cleaning. It turns to mush pretty quickly. (Looks and feels weird when that happens but still tastes good).
I am a big bow fisherman and have found a new respect for gar. I used to hate them with a passion and would shoot em every chance I got. However last year here in Missouri we had a major silver carp hatch and the gar were eating them like a buffet. So they get a free pass from me when I go fishing, there’s nothing I hate more than silvers dive bombing in my boat.
Isn't it funny much perception is based on experience. My general rule is if its native, it goes back... unless I eat it or use it for bait😁 thanks for watching!
I'm a new subscriber but long time fisherman of flatheads I Love my fishing but down here I southern Louisiana were I live we've got some nice flatheads and big big blues
What amazes me is that little river holds flathead that large. Are there blue in there that big? Now I noticed you use that certain knot for your lead. I use the big circle hooks 8/0 I have never had a problem with the circle hook. Do you think if that is a better way to do it. Also use a steel leader for 45lbs. Any advice about that? Also how deep are those holes
No blues in iowa. I dont like steal cuz it's more expensive when you break off and cats dont have teeth. Whisker seeker has some sweet leader line I'd recommend over steal. Way more for your money that way. Thanks for watching!
Love your video's You make me laugh and wish I was the one catching the fish. Got a full moon tomorrow night my be get a monster cat! Good luck. Thank for the video! Mike Huhman. NEBRASKA
Man I like gar for some reason I live in missouri and I had to teach myself how to fish so when I caught like a huge 5 foot longnose gar I liked them ever since everytine I see one im like i wanna catch it
Since I know you're in AZ... haha it's the same as he said. Both. I prefer slight slack so the bobber is more vertical and keeps the fish up but if you're using a decent size carp or feisty gill, it'll be more tight no matter what you do (unless you use more than 1lb of lead). You tend to get more tangles if the bobber isn't vertical. Push the bobber stop up higher (longer than the hook leader) if the water is deep enough. That keeps the bait from wrapping around the bobber.
@@RiverCertified Maybe switch to a hat/head mount when sleeping? That's what I do with a head set. It's definitely not as comfortable as the chest mount but looks better in my opinion.
River Certified I still use a headlamp but I use a Coast with adjustable spot and flood light. I turn it up to max brightness and flood mode and it gets a nice wide light so you can see stuff on video. Much better than the typical headset. Some still come with red and stuff they are pretty nice! I wouldn’t use anything else for night video. You can also get little mag lights that adjust to flood and spot. I use them on my kayak for night video
