[SONY XPERIA PRO 5G REVIEW]
Cameras. I use them every day; I rely on them; I even like a few. But there’s a reason I shoot so many photos and videos on phones instead of proper glass: simplicity. To me, the landscape of camera gear is a vast netherworld of overpriced and under-performing products - most notorious among them, external monitors. “Why,” I’ve thought on countless trips to B&H, “can’t I just hook my phone up to my camera, instead of dropping $500 on a thicker, heavier monitor that doesn’t last as long and needs its own set of batteries?”
Well it took a few years, but finally, someone built a smartphone that can pull double-duty as a monitor. Not only that: it also serves as a standalone studio to send 4K footage over 5G … live. The Sony Xperia Pro 5G is the long-awaited companion to the Xperia 1ii I reviewed last summer. I’ve just wrapped up ten days testing it to see if it lives up to its heart-stopping price tag; join me for MrMobile’s Sony Xperia Pro 5G Review!

Damn

Odds are if you can’t afford it, it’s not for you anyway
I 2nd this ! Hear hear !
I second this
Aw dammit, this *is* better
This is what the Red phone should have been
Thing is ... I was thinking the opposite ("this should be the Red phone, done right"). If Sony sold a mount that let you use this phone as a camera body with Sony lenses, I'd pay $2500 for this thing in an instant.

@@TheMrMobile They sort of got closeish with the QX1.
@@TheMrMobile So the accessory would have the sensor inside it?
This was the most anticipated phone for me just because it has an HDMI port. I never understood why phones could not be used as proper external monitors. However, the price is simply too high.
Hey bro good to see you here. Are you still going to review it too?
Ditto on all that.
Because it's an extremely niche feature
You know what makes me angry about this? the HDMI port only exists here because of lack of proper integration of the full USB-C spec, because USB-C *is a video port*
It's more so the USB-C standard used on phones is incapable of acting in this manner, mostly down to software and hardware. nothing is stopping that single wire from charging, broadcasting video, receiving video and anything else you need that cable to do.
*+carlitoisloco* would you pay😛?

Such a fun, entertaining and informative vid, this
Finally, someone did this review of the Xperia Pro! I was waiting for this since the release of the Sony Xperia 1 II. This is honestly more exciting for me than the iPhone 12 Pro Max and Samsungʼs Galaxy S21 Ultra-and I am a huge Samsung fan myself. LOL
I love how Sony considered overall functionality for most of todayʼs tech. users with this phone. It will find great use if utilized right especially with vloggers.
Thank you for doing this, man! I loved the whole review you did here as it was honest and clear about the pros and cons. It is worth its price, to be honest with you. I just hope that Sony would market it a lot more since it really is a premium phone both in form and function.

Hey, is it possible to record the screen of the Xperia? For example your settings of the camera etc. I haven’t use android, it might be a function of android! Cheers from Japan!
This phone will get this when android 11 arrives. Sony used to have screen recording until 2015.
It was removed, but now it is native function for android 11
@@OmarSS87 thanks for replying! So hopefully it could be used to record the HDMI input data for example the camera menu etc.

It's like a miracle in 2021 that we can get a mobile phone that:
1. Has no notch;
2. Has no camera bump;
3. Has a 3.5mm jack;
4. Has a camera button.
It's a real shame that Sony want it only be used by a very selected few.
You can still get the 1 mark 2 and 5 mark 2...

Eye af is not a cmera feature for u? U know nothing about cmera, better shut up
@@stevechannel6856 the booptidyscoop is right tho, this is a replacement for almost $5000 worth of professional gear in a compact body. Unless you're shooting video professionally, there's no reasonable reason to spend that kind of money on this smartphone.
@@smashexentertainment676 true n i know. But booptifyscoop says 'ISNT PHONE WITH CMERA FEATURE'. Obviously there is an eye af & dslr feature itself in this phone since 1ii. Such as photo pro app & cinema pro. So, eye af in a smartphone is not a cmera feature for u guys?
@@stevechannel6856 it's pretty crappy camera compared to what you're gonna be attaching it anyway )) Eye AF is not as impressive feature as you might think. Hey MrMobile, I hope you see this, I'm a looooong long time viewer of your videos(since 2012), and the thing I appreciate most is your impartiality. Polycarbonate is by far the best material for phones with metallic backplate.
What is the implications of polycarbonate? Is it more resistant to breakage?
@@Jackben1mble Yeah, it doesn't shatter like glass, and with a matte/speckled finish like the Pro has, it doesn't scratch either. Nice to have a phone you don't need to put a case on, one you can just toss into a bag without worrying. Also, Sony said it made 5G mmWave antenna implementation easier.

9:36 the footage has glitches somewhere around center of the frame.
Thankfully it's not just me. I thought my GPU was acting up because of overclocking
Guess I'm not the only one. I saw that glitches in too many videos.
Watching a Mr. Mobile video is like using an iPhone. Everything just fits, is seamless and works. There are little touches that make all the difference, and it's as beautiful to look at as it is to consume. For example, the little marker in the corner stating that the sponsor message is playing is such a nice touch. And hell, I appreciate the videos so much I'll gladly watch the sponsor message even as a youtube premium member. Because any small giveback that costs me nothing but 30 seconds is something I'll happily give to someone who's put the care and thought into the videos in this manner. And I LOVE how the subject of the video is never the sponsor. So we know we can TRUST Michael's content. Unlike some other channels that I will not mention......
Loved the review Michael ! Keep it up!
Finally, an HDMI port, something that has been gone since the days of the Nokia N8
Great video as always,
I agree that its priced a bit terribly,
But I believe that phones like this should exist, streaming is becoming one of the biggest forms of entertainment, so a phone which focuses on using 5G and professional cameras to film 4k video sounds great! But this wasn't made for the general public, or most streamers, this is made for the professionals, although phones like this excite me and I cant wait to see what Sony can do next with this technology!
And have a great day, Michael Fisher!

The problem is that companies like Samsung and Apple have convinced us the "Pro" just means more mega pixels or more memory or an additional camera. This is what a real professional phone looks like. "I even Leica Few"
Man, kudos to this review for keeping it super honest and I totally agree.
The problem with that price range really puts it at odds with other dedicated pro equipments like the atomos monitors which usually costs less than half of the phone with more display features like peaking, false color, and recording externally with higher bitrate & better codecs. None of which the Xperia does. And the problem with HDMI ports being finicky is an age old tale with the tech tbh, since HDMI in whatever form (normal, mini, or micro) doesn’t have a securing mechanism unlike SDI ports. Which is why many filmmakers support the shift in mirrorless cameras like Panasonic’s pro video camera, the S1H.
The way I see it, the pricing’s really far from the reach of your average content creator to make the whole investment to the Sony system feasible. It feels like a case of either jumping in without proper outreach to potential demographics like content creators, streamers, and their platforms, or doing so when the technology infrastructure is not there yet.
That being said, I recall Sony striking an exclusive deal with The Associated Press to have their journalist exclusively use the Sony Alpha mirrorless line for both stills and motion pictures. In that sense, maybe that’s the target market Sony is aiming for, especially when launching the Xperia together with the flagship A1 which is Sony’s cream of the crop, jack of all trades mirrorless line that supposedly can do it all now
I have my Xperia 1 II 👍 but tell me another phone with HDMI input or an alternative that is a 4k OLED monitor, with modem and encoder, with a built in battery, etc. to live broadcast via 5G for under $2500. I'll wait...
