I miss the times when you were posting regular updates... it's a nice engine with a lot of nice features and a lot of potential it would have been such a waste if it was just lost. It's awesome that you decided to share everything!
I don't know who you are. I don't know what this is. I don't know how much you put into this, or how long it took to get working. I don't know why I found you suddenly, and I don't know if I'll see you again. What I do know is that you poured your hearts into this. I know that this was a project quite unlike any other. And I know that you will not be forgotten any time soon.
That's very generous of you. This has to hurt a little, like giving away your baby. I'm really impressed with what I am seeing anyhow. I hope someone does something with it that stays close to the original vision anyhow.
Good work on open sourcing - sad to see the end of this project, been following you for a long time and you've done some cool stuff - best wishes for the future.
There is so much potential here. The bones are there, you just need a creative to stamp a theme and a story on there, and you have a game. Its amazing.
You are heroes, guys! All the physics and far-distance rendering mechanics you've added are so AMAZING! I wish someone would include stuff like this onto their game.
I just discovered this out of curiosity and a reddit link. I think it is amazing that you guys were breathing life into an amazing project that I didn't even know about, and further, after being able to continue development, made it open source! I can't wait to read the code!
Thanks! The code isn't as good as you would hope im afraid :P i was very junior when I worked on this so it has a lot of bad architecture, and was left in a very unfinished state in the middle of a refactor. I've moved on to other projects, but don't plan to post anything here until I have something really cool to show on the indie side, which could be years.
What you did is so great. You just give the game to the people, but I would have like that you just finished it by yourselves, you invested so much time.
i still remember how i got the "game tester" title i was so happy about it, kinda sad that it´s worthless now (unless the comunity do´s something with it) but it was nice seeing a video again about SOA
thanks to you i've found my ispiration, the reason i chosen to continue study in university, is to be able to create something as amazing as seed of andromeda. i have a looong way ahead of me, but still want to become as capable as you.
I just came across this game today, this is so sad, I had a lot of hope and was like, oooh maybe its out maybe I can buy it. I hope you guys may come back to it at one point
It would be so awesome if Hypixel Studios picked this up and implemented it into Hytale for some interplanetary fun. Kinda like having a minecrafty No Man's Sky... I know software doesn't work that way, and this is simply a completely different engine/framework from what Hypixel has, but hey, one can dream ^ ^ ahah
64bit precision was already well supported back in 2018 right; at least it is now. Sure operations get 2x slower but might be worth it due to the SIMT speed ups
I discovered seed of andromeda relatively recently, and it is one of the coolest things ive seen! I am a senior in high school with 2 years of computer science, and I always wanted to make a project like this. SoA 0.1.6 was the closest to some of my ideas, and I just wanted to look at the source code, however I am unable to read it or even the newer one due to some errors and my lack of understanding of github. I am asking if SoA 0.1.6 is open source and if I could read the source code of it, I would love to know how, and if I could have the code I would be more than happy to bring it somewhere to the best of my ability. If you are still reading these comments 5 years after you posted this video, please help me, how do I read the code of SoA 0.1.6, and is it even open source in the first place? Thanks
Everything is open source, but you will have to go back through the git history to find where 0.1.6 is. Im afraid building it is probably going to be a huge pain
@@DubstepCoder I am probably being blind or something, but I can not find it on github. I was only able to find the download for 0.1.6 on a download website, which did not seem to give me any other options, and I can not open the source code of the folder that I did download. By any chance could you link me to it or something? Sorry for the inconvenience. Also thank you so much for this and for responding, I know it is going to be quite a journey, however the engine you have made here already looks like it would save years of work, and I think it would be a great learning experience to check over the code. I am also wondering if GPT3 could read parts of the code that I do not understand and it will just help me learn at an accelerated pace. I am fully aware of the month long, or even year long journey ahead.
Lol I've just watched a video where you pledged your life to development of this game "...we will complete the game whether it takes a year or ten years...", Is it ten years already ? :D
I dont think so, ill be honest the code is a bit of a mess and a lot of the engine features are better replaced with 3rd party libraries, such as ENTT, rapidyml, ect
As much as I am saddened by the release, I am also thrilled. This means my team at Qub3d(qub3d.org) can use some of the code fro SoA to help with our project! I hope you get to be able to make more videos soon though! esp. with CEGUI, please! xD

Hey, don't be sad. I'm using this in my own game engine!

I appreciate the overview. Thank you!
WOW, thank you so much I hope to learn as much as I can from this.
Awesome! Pretty sure I'll be able to reuse some of this, at least the procgen part :)
Thank you, for this and ofcourse the countless of tutorials you have made
This is great!! Not that I know how to code, but I hope someone makes something amazing with this :)
This has so much potential! I hope someone makes something out of this

Thank you so much Ben .You really got me interested in coding.
This engine is too amazing to die! I really hope another dev team comes along and picks this up!
I wish i found out about this sooner! this is some seriously mind bendingly good tech you have here!

You guys did the right thing by open sourcing this. Kudos!
This is great! Thanks a lot
Thank you for sharing this code and for the nice presentation video.

this is awesome.
wonder how far its come in the two years since this was released
Awesome! I will have to sift through this and see if there's anything I can use for Space Nerds In Space.
Stephen Cameron if you have any questions about anything you find I can do my best to explain :)
Perhaps you'd like to mention this on freegamedev.net, here: forum.freegamedev.net/viewforum.php?f=22
Daawwwww I just came across y'all... Well thank you for having the wisdom to open source. Best of luck in your future endeavors!

I wish more projects that run out of steam along the way would do this.
Alright team, let’s do this!
Many Thanks :)

Man, I hope you are ok. Good luck!
I'm so sad to hear that you're not developing this anymore. But I'm also excited to see where this little community takes it.
Please come back to this project

Nice.
Damn, I miss these days.
Sad to see amazing projects get droped :( I know soo many. .. too manny games where the devs where almost complete it but they just droped it :(

can someone make a tutorial on how to open and build this code?
WOW

I have no idea how to land on a planet from the system view?!?!

Please come back my frind to your main channel of gaming w/ ben
You should probably close the forums now its getting spammed like crazy
Im just wondering why you guys didn't release this as an actual game, like it's already better then minecraft
There was no gameplay, and a ton of missing features and bugs
@@DubstepCoder aww, that's to bad. Still looks really cool.
