Online popularity contest and then the over-sexualised role models for maximum attention. It seems the numbers game is the root cause, who gets more attention. Some can't take the short end of the stick. Sad but this idea seems to be encouraged.

Some people that feel and know the facts should speak out publicly with all generations, and hold nothing back, even if majority backlash...
The false idols are marketed and it's hard for younglings to understand what influence really is. If a psych says they can help, they're lying..!
The help must come from pointing out the facts of the elites, idols & false groups whom use these children in a marketing sphere knowing that if one or some die, they'd be not responsible; but they are, since the algorithm targets these naive people of all ages, and we know teens & young adults are the most naive of all..
Any person saying they're willing to speak to an audience, yet without any experience in living or upbringing of a child in a world of tech is as usefull as a Bill Gates talking about plumbing...
Need people of the community with experience. Need parents that new the dangers n did nothing. Need young adults or children to speak of how they really feel about the So-Media world..
Only a mass of people can take on a mass industry. No single rich devided spoilt political entities can do what's needed to be done.. Why..? Cos wealthy people rely on this tech for work, connections in marketing & their high appointed salaries. It's contradicting when i hear a wealthy, non-family orientated person speaking about commom populous lifestyles..

I've been thinking for YEARS that social media platforms aren't good for teenagers. When I was a teenager in the early 2000s, I was happy until I signed up for AOL instant messenger and MySpace. Sure, it was nice being able to contact friends when I wanted, but I also felt like I had to compete with them or "one up" them to be cool. I think Facebook and Instagram and all the rest supercharged that dynamic.

My opinion is that, parents can always prevent this as long as they are responsible with their children, commutation is the number 1 factor towards a perfect behavior between parent and child, letting a child 24/7 on the phone thinking, ah what could happen?, well one day this can happen, I'm 23 and I can see with my own eyes how people at my age are destroying themselves day by day, dying to get more money, dying to wear the latest brand, dying to get the latest phone all because one of their friends has a better car, a better phone, more money; this isn't life, this is mental suicide and giants like Meta are taking an advantage using our own fears and weaknesses.

I don’t look at RUclips as the same kind of social media as the toxic platforms such as Facebook or Instagram. The toxic platforms are the ones where you find content from people you know. Seeing friends, coworkers, ex-friends, ex-lovers, etc., experiencing all these highs are what create jealousy and/or FOMO. RUclips is more like watching TV.

Before social media loners like me could live in solitary happily not knowing what is happening outside. We are in out own world. Now with social media, you see everyone around you experiencing life and living to it fullest while you are just sitting there at the same spot. Those same people you went to high school with are getting married/ having kids or went on to have successful career and you are still in the same spot or not sure what the future holds for you. The more I see other people happy on social media, the more I start to question what is wrong with me and where did it all went wrong for me that caused me to be going no where in life and all alone.

How blessed they are, at the same time how self absorb people can be and basically rub it other people's face how great their lives are.

    • @guerrerojaguar6371
      @guerrerojaguar6371 Год назад

You are not alone, don't think of it like that, to be lonely and to be alone are not the same. People sometimes are annoying, specially the phony one's, we are better of away from them, just make an effort to be conscious about reality, your reality, live the present and do whatever you feel like doing, who cares what people think or do, focus on improving yourself. I will leave you this powerful lines in honor of Mr. Rogers, I hope you can read them:
      "It's you I like,
It's not the things you wear,
It's not the way you do your hair
      But it's you I like
The way you are right now,
The way down deep inside you
Not the things that hide you,
      Not your possessions
      They're just beside you.
      But it's you I like
      Every part of you.
Your skin, your eyes, your feelings
      Whether old or new.
      I hope that you'll remember
      Even when you're feeling blue
      That it's you I like,
      It's you yourself
      It's you.
      It's you I like.

I literally turned off Facebook and Instagram. I found myself comparing my life to what I perceived as the better lives of friends. Once I stopped using these platforms, I started realizing that people will post the best part of their lives and post that only. I've left social media off since June. It will be off until 2023 and possibly further.

It's not just teenage girls. Adult men can be effected. I was a social media addict and I ended up becoming depressed, bitter, and anxious as I would waste away hours online, and never sought help due to the stigma surrounding adult male depression. It wasn't until I limited myself to 1-2 hours of internet usage a day that I began seeing improvements in my crumbling mental health.

  • @ZeroResponse

The solution was already there since the Web began. Content were divided to general public or those above 18. Even back then, I felt it was insufficient and ineffective for sites to focus on a specific age group. For example, there should be a separate Web for kids alone. But nothing was done. Because it was simply more cost effective and profitable to keep it open. Now with social media, entire platforms are left even wider. So a child can see what are and should be meant for adults. Some might say, well it's just like real life, you can't just close off a child's eye or mind. Well in the real world, parents have better control in what a child consumes. Online, especially on the phone, it becomes almost impossible as the "line of decency" is blurred. Hidden under what appears to be harmless, even helpful. So algorithm? No, that's not the problem. The problem is a regulation of what media should be restricted by age and the continued addiction sexualization of all genders these days. Of course, as I expect, there will be "freedom / free speech" activists at my throats for denying people a choice to bla bla bla.

I'm going to say something that will be unpopular. If your child cannot survive media, perhaps they weren't going to survive the real world. Look hard enough and you'll find hard working people losing their jobs due to incompetent management, or losing their houses and retirement due to divorce, etc. Those are tough situations they have to survive. If your kid can't figure out certain types of media/photos make them suicidal, I have to wonder if they were going to grow up blaming every one else for their problems, taking everyone to court, etc. Many of us know someone who had to commute 80 miles or more round trip to make ends meet and you want to tell me about your daughter who was depressed by an app? That's like saying you're traumatized because you've been eating chicken all these years and just found out they were not free range.

I'd spam my instagram wall full of text based memes that are full of nothing but sadness.
So this is definitely being engineered. Instagram is an image sharing website. Why are there images of text on the website? and why aren't the owners of the platform regulating what a picture is and what it isn't.
The internet made every single human being a meme for better or worse, and we're seeing it playout right now.
If you can copyright strike or content ID unique uploads, yall can definitely be more diligent about the content that circulates on your platform.

Make teachers do this! I believe in schools taking this responsibility for this more than parents, because schools can teach our kids far better and professionally.

Great coverage..but I'm sure there exist much more dangerous effects of SM than the ones covered here. Political effects. This is about emotional effects... social media can control minds and make one fall get excited by violence, guns and can make drug addiction look really cool. They can make vulnerable people to start questioning their gender and promote behavior that controls population growth rates by polarizing the two sexes (masergeny/misandry)...the worst part is that the systems are so convenient and useful in handling important day to day business (both big e.g The English Primer League & government businesses.. and small e.g A single stall shoe vender) that the owners get away with everything, every time.
