Actually we see lots of communication problems here. Doctors shouldn't cease patient's words to ask questions. That's the very first rule regarding clinical empathy.
IMO it is essential to learn to understand other accents, though perhaps this is for the more advanced student? My target language is Spanish and the accents vary widely from region to region. I think this is excellent listening practice, but poss. a waste of time if one knows they are only going to work in the USA- then they should practice regional dialects as well! There are English speakers I cannot understand! And I am native!
