- A testament to the on-screen chemistry between Mulder/Scully and Gillian/David, which developed over 17 years. I was inspired by one of my favourite scenes: the looks they give each other after the "Millennium kiss". The clips are (mostly) in chronological order. Commentary from Chris Carter, Frank Spotnitz, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

So beautiful. NO relationship in television history has surpassed the genuine level of connection between these two , and I doubt ever will.
+Crystal Rose true to that sister... didn't truly care back then when it came out, I was just a little kid, I just saw that is was a sci-fi series (aliens.. weird stuffs) and I was hooked because of that; but now that I'm older I understand that the reason the series worked so well was because of Gillian and Dave's chemistry.
Delphine and Cosima (Orphan Black). Hicks and Ripley (Aliens). Travis and Sonya (Continuum). Hoban and Zoe (Firefly). Sookie and Bill (True Blood). Han and Leia.

As much as I love x files and sculder, I think that description goes to Jim and Pam from the office.
The way that they speak to each other, look at each other, and touch each other says more than an "I love you," ever could. Mulder and Scully's relationship isn't something that's ever very clearly defined on the show --- it just is. It's something that transcends friendship or romance, and the kind of relationship that I think most of us could only ever dream of having in our lifetimes.
Chris Carter created the show and I'm grateful for that, but it's really David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson who breathed life into these characters and their unbreakable bond. I do love that this show never fell into the trap of creating unnecessary internal drama between Mulder and Scully --- X-Files proved that it's possible to tell a love story without all that nonsense. Sure, they fight every now and then, but at the end of the day, they trust each other wholeheartedly and would do anything to keep each other safe. It's an intense thing, yet it seems to come as easily as breathing for them.
Top rated scu-fi show ever. I don't think there has been another that was A÷ that fans still follow 30 years later. And yes GA and DD made it all possible.

They are so damn perfect for eachother, it kills me.
na, and yes..but it wasn´t alsways easy...remember the hard times Scully had, not being able to follow him "into the darkness". but these facts make it more realistic...and true to their characters storyline
I also think Gillian and David have such a special personal relationship with each other that it plays out so well on screen when they have to have certain emotional moments together.
I would love to understand this connection. I could list all the contributors - the scripts, the characters' unique journey, the attractiveness and talent of the actors, the friendship that developed out of necessity, the unresolved sexual tension because of the unusual level of restraint of the characters ... but it's something more. Something otherworldly, which only strengthens the whole point of X-Files. Proves it, even. Everyone said it would end if they got together, but it didn't. If anything, it got stronger. There's still something that captivates us there, and I expect it would be if there were an X-Files revival when these two are elderly. We would still die every time they look into each other's eyes. I doubt this show would have lasted more than a season if anyone else had played these roles. It's pure magic. Deeper than romance, deeper than friendship ... there isn't a word to describe it. As a writer myself, if only I could bottle this and mix it into every story I write.

Their chemistry was the "X" factor. How many TV shows (especially A rated sci-fi shows) have such a following after 30 years. Come to think of it how many A rated sci-fi shows are there period. I think if anyone else would have be cast as DKS or FWM it never would have lasted as long as it did.
There's a fantastic job by the writers and especially the actors.
It's all in the eyes. Watch them look at each other. Simply amazing.
Uncanny chemistry, even the actors can't explain it. Very early in the show we already could see some love in the air, just because of these legendary looks. Unconditional love, that's it. That's one of the reasons I'll never accept that damn movie and revivals, the Scully we know would never EVER leave her Mulder, no matter what. They're still the best tv couple, unforgettable.
It's true. The thing that really drives the show and holds it together has been their chemistry. Anyone who pays attention can see it.
That's what a good marriage looks like - chemistry, teasing, flirting, love, respect, and passion.
I often wonder if Schris Carter has a relationship like this in his life.

"They read each others faces and eyes" These two are just meant to be. Their chemistry is timeless and DD and GA bring so much to this--I could watch this over and over!! I can't even think of another television show in which the connection between the characters is so strong through just eye contact, a glance, a brief kiss on the forehead. I mean seriously!!!

Yes, though I think that Scully was the one who guided the relationship. There were moments in which Mulder may have wanted to cross the line, especially at the beginning.
It's not really a "romance" though. Their connection is deeper than that. The whole show is about the unknown and the unexpected, and that is what their relationship is. The show is in no way about them being together, it's just something that happened. I personally love the way that handle it. It's part of the story (and honestly it has been from the very first episode), but it never overshadows the other stories being told.
They don't need to tell each other "i love you"... It's implied in every dialogue and every single look between them. I don't want a guy who tells to me "I love you" every second, I want a guy who tells me "I love you" with his eyes. That's the REAL "I love you"... Like Mulder and Scully
IMHO they both never looked at anyone else the same way, like at each other. Their mutual looks were like insight into the soul of the other. There was everything in them, caring, trust, desire, love and tenderness. Cris Carter was very lucky to have chosen these two great actors. This must have been fate!

So many times, throughout the series' run, I always loved the way Scully gazed at Mulder. The way her eyes looked when she stared at him and the expression on her face..it was almost elegant. She just has really gorgeous eyes.

Same !!! And I call BS on all the interviews when the 2 actors say they never crossed that line off camera!!! OF COURSE they did. Chemistry like that can't just be an on screen thing, its deeper. I'm guessing it wasnt gonna work for a serious relationship between them for many reasons...but yep the line was crossed baby!!!!!!

Whenever I'm upset or bored or sad or just need Mulder and Scully in my life, I watch this. Why?
Because it makes me cry. It makes me laugh. It makes me smile. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have this amazing gift - their chemistry - and I'm incredibly glad that they shared it with us. My life would be a hell of a lot more boring if I didn't have them to watch on my computer screen.
while watching x-files it's sometimes annoying that they don't actually do anything about their feelings, but i think it's also what makes it so special. nowadays in tv we see too much sex, kisses etc. it doesn't mean anything anymore.
It's professionalism as part of a good work ethics.

I always thought that Joshua Jackson and Anna Torv (Fringe) had incredible chemistry with their eyes, but Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny give them a run for their money.

I liked how the magazine Hero Complex put it; "Eventually, he (Chris Carter) did bring them together, or stopped keeping them apart. Even then, though, the relationship was more glimpsed than explored - as if to say, yes, viewer, we will give this to you, and no, it is really none of your business." They concentrated on the great writing and let the actors chemistry shine. That's how a true classic T.V. series is supposed to be run. Timeless, still adored and never forgotten.
I've been watching TV for decades and I still couldn't find better couple then those two.

We were all the recipients of TV history between these two. I can't think of a show or two actors that had such chemistry between them. Props to Carter who decided against the buxom blonde many wanted and went with Anderson. A better choice could not have been made.
Just imagine, we're going to experience this all over again in 2016. Fuck, we are blessed!

+83annak same thing happen to me,, i grew up with this (9 years old when it came out) and when I heard "The X-files are getting new episodes" I was really excited... it was the best series back and I think is still.. I'm seeing it again, starting from the first season and I'm totally addicted to it.... again.

This is one of the few shows where it is easy to sometimes forget that it is a show and they are just actors. This is because the chemistry is so strong and real, it takes on a wondrous life of it's own. Mulder and Scully forever.
Just finished the series and Im STILL crying so hard!!!!! Mulder and Scully - the all-around PERFECT TV couple. The chemistry is undeniable. They will definitely be engraved in my mind.

Consider the current TV and how explicit it is ... And now think of this series ... Nine seasons on the air and was never needed a sex scene ... This unconditional love, this mutual trust between them, this sweet kisses on the forehead or cheek ... Nothing more was needed, only these two characters and a chemistry rarely seen on screen ...

if you saw them on Jimmy Kimmel there's no doubt they at least had an off set fling back in the days and no doubt they have an off screen romantic connection it's just kinda sad that they are not actually married in real life but then again it would be sadder if they did get married and then divorced in the Hollywood circus

Mulder hasn't changed a lot throughout seasons 1-9, but Scully did change.

Completely agreed. I liked the show even more when they started to get into the alien conspiracy. Added a whole new dimension and depth to the show, and the questions in reality. Are we really alone out there. Man they are truly one of the best on-screen duos. Their chemistry together is legendary.

I was a big fan of The X-Files from start to finish and had the fulfilling experience of watching Mulder and Scully's relationship grow and develop over the course of nine years. You've done an excellent job of documenting their unspoken, unbreakable bond in four minutes. Even after all these years, I remember these looks more vividly than episodes. No other TV couple comes close to them.
Bennissimo! I never noticed that first look from the pilot until you isolated it here. I can't explain it, but that glance between them seemed so prophetic in retrospect; it conveyed more than any words ever could.

I read several comments and I completely agree with all the descriptions that DAVID and GILLIAN brought to life the most beautiful and perfect couple on TV.
And in my humble opinion, what I can see is much more than just chemistry. There is something beyond chemistry, a kind of genuine LOVE.
As if DD and GA were forged from the same stuff, their hearts and souls forged from the same essence!
