  • Clare, Countess of Oxford and Asquith, talks about her book, Shadowplay: the Hidden Beliefs and Coded Politics of William Shakespeare, which powerfully argues that Shakespeare may have been a secret Catholic writing allegorically about the Reformation through his plays.

I read Shadowplay several years ago and found the arguments very interesting. I enjoy these insights into the work that make them so much more enjoyable. Interestingly, I read a book more recently that translates to He Goes In Search Of Freedom (Libertá Va Cercando) by Maria Soresina that makes Gnostic Christianity the hidden key to understanding Dante's Divine Comedy. The parallels of religious oppression between the two times in the two countries of England and Italy are striking.
