    This scene (which is obviously in the movie too) sheds a completely different light on the entire movie. Forrest is teased, ridiculed, laughed at, exploited throughout the most parts of the movie. And he takes it lightly because... audience think he's not intelligent enough to understand what's happening to and around him.
    But here, when he hears that he has a child, his behavior changes fundamentally, because now he fears that his son could be like him and that seems to break him inside.
    So Forrest knows throughout the movie that he is NOT smart compared to others, but accepts it and doesn't show it. He is not frustrated or felt fear up to this point. But here you can see how he fears for his son's future. That his son could be victimized as he was. That his son could be... unhappy.

      He IS aware of not being smart, but his mother gave him the the tools and confidence to strive in spite of it. "Dumb is as dumb does", anyone?

So innocent, but very brilliant! Everywhere my son goes, people fall in love with him like Forest. He has also struggled with hard things of this world like Forest too. I am surprised to find that they developed the "Forest Gump" character by watching a child that "seems" to be not on a spectrum of some sort. I am literally luckier than the kid who was in Forrest Gump. Don't get me started on how stupid that war was in hindsight, but I respect him far more for doing a tour there than being little Forrest Gump. Tom Hanks really added a lot of humanity that wasn't in Roth's original script. Watch the movie and then read the script and you'll see the magic of good direction and great acting which benefits everyone, including the person adapting the script. Forrest Gump, the character, was way more "impaired" and almost unrelatable in the Roth script. The filmmakers really transformed it. I met Eric Roth and asked him about this and he got really defensive and angry.

    • @ulliulli
      @ulliulli 2 months ago +6

      of course, since his work was changed and now people think that the movie is better than the source material.
      Like "Das Boot", the german anti war movie about a Submarine crew in WW2. Based on a book by Buchheim, who was a war correspondend like Lt. Werner in the Movie. And Buchheim disliked the movie. For him, the movie contained way too much action and lacked of psychological depth. And when people approached him and told him how they loved the movie, he got angry too ^^

At the time, the school i went to had 1st grade through high school all in the same building and we all got let out at the same time. Every day i would walk home from school as a first grader, the high school kids would drive by me and call me robot boy as they drove home in their cars. I knew how it made me feel but i never told my parents because i just thought that's what kids did. Luckily, after multiple surgeries, i didn't have to wear those, but i was the first kid in school to get high tops because i could tie them around my ankles so my smaller foot wouldn't slip out. Seeing the film, back in the day, I left the theatre, tears in my eyes as I thought about my "Jenny". I could watch it over and over and every time would end up with tears falling on my cheeks at the end.

    i always thought what Forrest Gump was a quasi hero/parable movie. A pure hearted man plows through Americas highs and lows and comes out alive and an inspiration to us all.

    キャスティング素晴らしかったもんね。トムハンクスはもちろん、芸達者のロビンライトやサリーフィールドとかゲイリーシニスとか、役柄にぴったりだった。

    The most brilliant approach to a movie and story telling. Inspiring, yet heart warming, to move an entire humanity to not only be a classic, but a legend. I am not certain if Wilson and Forrest could find any other actor, to be replaced on how the movie were interpreted. Creating unbelievably attachments to those characters.
    Thanks to those that we may not see, writers, directors, camera men, stunt professionals and those that feed them, includi g the event professionals and us... the viewers, without those cinema goes. These movies could never be what they gave us.

    This is my favourite movie of all time….and I’m seventy-two years old! My second favourite is Shawshank Redemption ! All those relationships, the joy, the terror, the humiliations, the triumphs! Just human nature in all its guises….both of them! And both superb in every way….especially the endings! ❤️😊

    One of my all-time favourite movies. Recently been watching a few vids behind the scenes and looking at the VFX they used. It's all amazing. Even the CGI stuff was done tastefully and only when necessary. The actors, the music and general film direction is all perfect!

    The very last audition scene in this clip, with Forrest’s son, is with Haley Joel Osment, who would go on to brilliantly portray the boy in The Sixth Sense.
