My man Dave Alvin Abilene this song just kicks ass had to come back and watch it again every now and then that song pops in my mind and I’ve got to hear it
Man this song has always been in my heart and on my mind today I was sitting around picking away on the acoustic playing the opening lick and I could not remember who did this song looked all over the Internet could not find it I knew the song was Abilene then by the grace of God I came across the man the myth the legend Dave Alvin
A great rocker songwriter and singer too much underrated...as his brother Phil and their wonderful band The Blaster....i'm glad he is still around playing and singing...
Blackjack David was an awesome album - I like Dave Alvin - Rick Shea is amazing on this recording and on that album - I met both of them in Detroit, they played for a UAW rally back in probably 1999.
Well hell...who knew Dave was this good? I saw him back in 1993 or so at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica. I really didn't think he was that compelling. I was there to see House of Freaks, but man this is a hell of a song and a performance.
Just saw him live this week. He rocked this song even harder at the age of 67.
Dave's a master poet who also ROCKS like classic 70's album rock.
Message to all young country western wannabees: Cover this man's songs and become a star.

Dave is still one of my favorite artists!
One of my top Dave songs...and I just found it after all these years....WOWOWOW!
It's amazing how their performances can be every bit as clear an nuanced as the recordings.
what sort of dingus puts a thumbs down on this beautiful performance???
A dumb dingus. This song grabs. The line "maybe this one won't be so mean" is one of the saddest lines I've ever heard in a song.
I listen to this guy , for some fucking reason all I can think of Steve McQueen they very similar in a way abstract presentation.
Of the songs with this title by far the best. The kind of song and performance that gives you chills.
a great songwriter and player been around a long time ...
