Not enough to matter. The point is that it would have cost several hundred dollars to have the stump removed but it only cost him a bag of charcoal and a couple of gallons of vegetable oil. I'm guessing that he probably chopped the wood himself and probably owned the tree it came from to begin with(could have been from the same tree as the stump he was burning for all we know). So yeah...your attempt at a cheap shot at this harmless guy was a fail.
Wesley H. He also burnt a whole bunch of wood, aka tree's Your attempt at being overly sensitive and completely devoid of humour was a success! Congrats
Or could have drilled a hole in the center of the stump, cut radiating cuts down the stump from the center (* design from the top). Then let the stump dry out. When dry, stuff the center with a firestarter and light. No charcoal, no firewood - self fueled.
I was thoroughly entertained. It's like watching a fire burn while enjoying a beer. In my case it's Sangria and watching from the comfort of my couch. ... This guy seems like he'd be an awesome neighbor to have. Thanks for the video!
Day 3,567.... the stump is still smoldering. I'm going to take off all the ash and add another 4,987 gallons of vegetable oil and a quarter acre worth of firewood should get the job done. But if it doesnt, trust me it will. In closing don't post 12 part videos until you know it works. In this case these videos were shot over a 15 year period. I hope this was entertaining. Goodbye from Ohio, now I have to go and give mama a sponge bath. Her ass gets a little dank after a few hours. Sort of like this stump that i soaked in 4,356 gallons of oil and roast in the sun these past 15 years.
This is an excellent video series. My husband and I enjoyed watching it. Marsh shows patience which is in short supply these days. Marsh is an excellent narrator.
+Bulimic Ouroboros That's true, but you can use this fire to burn some old, dry wood leftovers, so it may be used for cleaning your backyard aswell. Also, ash from the burned wood could be used as a fertilizer for the soil in your garden. So there are also some positive aspects of doing things this method.
If you got a spare 55 gallon drum of vegetables oil, a couple spare drills and drill bits, a mastery of your patience, a literal ton of kindeling, and the fire department on speed dial you can DYI
Dynamite used to work real good for getting rid of stumps, but they made it more difficult to get hold of in the last 60 years or so for some reason. My cousin blew one out for my dad just outside of Madisonburg, Ohio right around 1961 with either a half or a quarter-stick. Roots, stump, and possibly my mother's dentures went flying out!
I am a Stump Grinder and have put a link to your video in all my advertisements and my card. Whenever people are not sure about hiring me, I tell them to watch your video. They immediately call afterwards and hire me!!! Business has tripled since I did that, it's BOOMING!!! Thanks!!!
I fast forwarded 27 times and every time it’s that same stump still there. What’s episode 3....how to remove a granite boulder from your yard with hydrogen peroxide and a toothbrush?
75 dollars to rent a stump grinder from home depot for 4 hours. Or spend 100 dollars in oil, bags of charcoal and logs from the tree that was cut down... Lets not forget the time trying to haul the stuff and lighting the fire... Just 4 hours and $75... Done
hahaha I was going to say that myself! The money he spent on veg oil and charcoal...just another $40 he could have rented a grinder and got it done in a few hours.
No idea why this popped up in my feed, and even though I just wasted 10 mins of my life waiting for a punchline, explosion, or Something to happen, reading these comments was well worth it!
I drilled holes in mine, that was growing into our chain link fence and when the kids didn't finish their soda or juice drinks, I'd pour it over the stump. 1 year later, the insects ate it all the way to the ground.
After watching this, I came up with 2 clear decisions. 1.) I would NEVER waste that much wood, charcoal, vegetable oil and 6 days of my life and 2.) Stump grinders make a whole lotta sense. I hired a guy to remove one about that size at my house and it was $150 and he was done in 2 hrs. I drank an ice cold beer as I watched him.
Thanks for doing this video, Marsh Rat. I will be using your method soon. Your lessons learned comments show how perceptive you are. Don't worry about speeding things up, I could listen to that lovely accent all day.
So many people negatively commenting.. this is one way of doing it which is still finishing the job. Not everybody can swing a pickaxe for hours or rent equipment or have the right equipment at all.. My dad did this and he had every tool available. Was a fun memorable time I had with my father. Great video, cheers.
MR with your chain saw cut a couple of opposed horizontal slits as close to the ground dare. Soak up the cuts with your oil and the fire will burn deeply into the stump. I appreciate you videoing your process every little bit helps.
This guy has a lot of time and also entertainment for many days and I admire his efforts to get rid of the stump. Whats exciting with a half an hour solution when you can fill days with a meaningful project. A great video..
Yeah I’ve noticed most of the comments are negative and basically just mean spirited. This dude seems to be happy and not stressing at all. On behalf of this guys efforts I say if people don’t like the video don’t watch it shut up and move the fuck on.
I love his accent and the dedication that he brings to this. I thought at first that he would do the typical ‘Merican thing and blow up the stump but he surprised me with his love of vegetable oil. Well done sir!
Mr Marsh Rat. The note was meant as a sincere message of appreciation for your patient and environmentally friendly problem solving. We all have accents and yours is a tribute to the place you grew up in. Take care
Mr. Maarsh rat, you are persistent. I give you that. When I was younger and $200 really mattered to me, I dug a hole around my tree stump exposing the roots, and very simply cut the roots with my electric $30 chainsaw until the stump came loose and I removed it. I don't remember taking more than 3 hrs. What I learned was that I could use vegetable oil to light my charcoal. I like that. Love the accent.
Well, I was actually looking for a good film on beheading, and I somehow accidentally stumbled across this site. However, the day is not lost. With your name, you can probably supply a number of your favorite beheading links from memory.
A word of caution. Be aware that a big stump, say 3 ft diameter or more, can have big roots that can continue to burn underground and along the roots for a week or so. I have seen the roots of a pine stump continue to burn for two weeks and 6-10 feet away from the stump. If you have underground pipes, cables or telephone wires that the roots have grown close to over the years, they will get burned out too, and they can be expensive to replace.
That's true they can start in Sept keep burning tru the winter in wild fire areas in canada deep into the ground scary really because they can flair back up weeks after extinguished
I love your style. No loud stupid music or auditioning. And you made your point with no crazy wild camera movements (that was beyond a blessing). You should give classes on how to do RUclips DIY videos. Your process of stump removal was entertaining and interesting. Where I am I'm just afraid of fire issues. The added comments at the end of your video really brought it all together. I have about 30 stumps to remove. Most are small enough to saw out by cutting the roots with a reciprocating saw (12" limb blade) and pulling the remaining stump with my large garden tractor. The big fellows I'll dig around and cut them below ground level with a chainsaw. Once well below ground level I'll cover them up. I've found I can usually get them a good 6 inches below ground level within a half hour or so. Thanks again and keep making these videos.
Diy requires common sence..thats the only people that have the insight to make things work..if you cant burn a treestump without burning your house down..you proabally belong in califorina..but hey go ahead and leave your pretty little wife here...
Hell's yes!. I'm hooked on both! It's like smoking a blunt back in the day and chilling down to some Bob Ross painting trees and birds .....hypnotic, I'm telling you. I'm hooked! Watching a stump soak oil is just as soothing as watching Bob's paint dry on pbs......best naps of my life! I would watch this guy burn stumps every day if he had a show!!!
I don't know what's up with all of the hate on this,I honestly think it's a great way to get rid of a stump. Especially for people who don't have alot of resources at hand (like a chainsaw, backhoe, etc.). Not to mention when you brought out the rebar tripod base and cooked up something, that got a hell of a laugh out of me Good video series, it got me to like/subscribe haha
oh i agree, a thumbs down is still a view, was replying to the comment from sakiLOVER asking why so much hate on your video. good video and congrats on the high view count.
+Marsh Rat couldn't you cut 4 holes at the very bottom of the stump that is showing and just pour what ever you want to put in the cuts and light them and it will burn from the inside up and out
+Mechanic Gammer good onya i was only joshin with ya! im from uk back street mechanics arent too bad really they do tends to adhere to cosh rules hazardous waste disposals etc protocols even in.grimey places i believe in saving any wastes going into the gen enviro at most costs! its gettin pretty expensive to do the right thing tho!! adding to biz costs try eu laws on it see how you fare!!? ho ho ho more jollity!!
I loved this video. I sent it to all my siblings. I laughed so hard. This is exactly how a project I’d attempt would go. I ended up covering a couple of small stumps with some plastic rocks from Amazon and my neighbor thought they were tombstones for my cats.
Love your positive attitude and outlook on things! Don't listen to the critics, there are plenty of them out there but they didn't pay a dime for the information you provided, let alone the time and energy you spent to help the rest of us. I appreciate folks like you who are willing to let others in on various little secrets in the how-to world. Keep up the good work and keep shining! 👍👍👍
Why am I here? I don't even have a stump
Same here. IDK why I'm here but I am.
same lol
or a wood pegged leg
3many15 lol ditto
Look down.
If you listen closely, you can hear a woman yell, " Where's all my fuckin' vegetable oil? God damn it, is he burnin' another fuckin' stump?"
Ken Shirk lmfaoooo
Haha the videos were ok but many of the comments are hilarious, like a tv sitcom with the wife yelling off camera. HAHAHA.
LMAO
😂
🤣
This guy is so sweet and the videos are so calming. I just watched this full series and I didn't even have a stump that needed burning lol
Legend has it he's still adding vegetable oil til this day
It's funny because he burnt 3 trees to remove one stump, so he left 3 stumps on another place.
it's a Ponzi scheme!
lollllll.......
...but those other trees are on someone else's property. WIN.
Marcos Agüero Fucken hilarious!! It's a never ending battle!Lol
Marcos Agüero not if he used branches from that tree.
step 1. cut the tree
step 2. soak tree stump with oil
step 3. use all wood from the tree to burn the stump
Or add a step 1B - Cut another 12" - 16" off the stump before drilling the holes...
Teacher: "So what are you going to do with your life Billy?"
Billy: "I'm gonna burn a stump for rest of my life."
😂😂😂😂😂😀😀😀😀
'It's day 12. I've managed to get hold of some dynamite online. '
Im here, at 4 am in the morning and have school tomorrow. Watching how to remove a stump. My futures looking bright fam
zephyres /\ you commented this at 11 good try
Now I'm actually watching this at 4am and I have class tmo lmao
Same
Day 673..... I’m just going to add a little more vegetable oil....
You might want to add some charcoal!
@@jeremystewert4303 and another log
literally got 3 mins and 26 seconds into this video before I asked myself. "why the fuck am I watching this"
Same 😂
Easy? Maybe if you don’t have anything else to do for a long, long time.
Quick tip, build barn around stump so if it rains, fire won’t go out
I would of liked to see a bit more vegetable oil
I'd like to see a bit more cowbell!
seattwa that referrence tho
how many trees does it take to remove a stump?
LOL!!!!
Liam Bunton good point haha
Not enough to matter. The point is that it would have cost several hundred dollars to have the stump removed but it only cost him a bag of charcoal and a couple of gallons of vegetable oil. Your attempt at being overly sensitive and completely devoid of humour was a success! Congrats
it wasn't a cheap shot at all, infact I wasn't even shooting. I don't get the logic of let's remove a stump by burning trees; great use of wood.
Stump grinder companies should pay for an ad in this video.
omg that's hilarious 😂 😃
I got a great laugh because I couldn't stop watching. This is as genuine as you'll get.
“I said easy not quick”
Tell me why I’m still up at 6 am and watching the entire video when I don’t have a stump to take out of my yard?
Neither do I 😂🤣
6 cords of firewood and 500 gallons of vegetable oil later...
seriously
Burning it from the bottom up is faster and easier. You have to dig out the area for your fire, though.
Or could have drilled a hole in the center of the stump, cut radiating cuts down the stump from the center (* design from the top). Then let the stump dry out. When dry, stuff the center with a firestarter and light. No charcoal, no firewood - self fueled.
🤣 this video cheered me up! "Easy way, but not the fast way"
Hahahahahahahahahahahah
Its amazing how you can burn 4 trees in the process of removing 1 stump.
I was thoroughly entertained. It's like watching a fire burn while enjoying a beer. In my case it's Sangria and watching from the comfort of my couch.

Justin Gower holy s**t I literally cried while reading ur comment...I don’t know how I got here but I’m glad I did
Not to worry my man. I waited 3 years for this to pop up in my recommendations. Not even regretted it.
Oh yeah me too
This is just a man's excuse to build a fire to drink beer around. I approve.
True and cheers
This is an excellent video series. My husband and I enjoyed watching it. Marsh shows patience which is in short supply these days. Marsh is an excellent narrator.
This is awesome! It clearly takes 3 trees worth of wood and a lake of veg oil to complete but worth it!!
Easy! Someone needs to talk to this boy about the definition of easy.
It is easy, but consumes a lot of time and materials.
+ Bud Simpson
Take it easy there Kenny Rodgers. This is no harder than cutting up the roots
LOVE THIS! "Don't publish part one of a multi-part series..." You're the best
thank you
If you got a spare 55 gallon drum of vegetables oil, a couple spare drills and drill bits, a mastery of your patience, a literal ton of kindeling, and the fire department on speed dial you can DYI
Proof that nearly 12,000,000 of us have no life, watching someone else burn a stump.
😁😂😁😂😁🤣😁
Lmao 😁
Now almost 15 million
🥴🤣
The stump was more attractive than the pile of ashes 🙄😂
Quarantine got me watching this 😂
Quarantine got him trying this 😂
😂😂 same!!
Ditto here too😂😂
Lol same
Me too 🤣🤣

tstfrd Yeah I got rid of a stump in a day with just a shovel and a axe
I used tannerite and removed it in milliseconds
I fast forwarded 27 times and every time it’s that same stump still there. What’s episode 3....how to remove a granite boulder from your yard with hydrogen peroxide and a toothbrush?
😅
Who doesn’t love messing around with fire. Campfires, brush fires and now stump fires. Great video and keep loving life!!
Thanks glad you like fire too
75 dollars to rent a stump grinder from home depot for 4 hours.
Or spend 100 dollars in oil, bags of charcoal and logs from the tree that was cut down... Lets not forget the time trying to haul the stuff and lighting the fire...
Just 4 hours and $75... Done
But it's not nearly as annoying to that neighbor that you hate.
hahaha I was going to say that myself!
2 Mexicans. 2 pick Ax. 2 six packs of Modelo. 2 hours. Done.
Hahahaa 😆
I’ll bet that tractor in the background was like “Wtf? You serious?!”
I'm looking forward to you video called 'how I removed a 12 foot boulder from my garden with washing up liquid'.
He must have burned a trees worth of wood to remove a stump...brilliant
USA could attack the stump due to all the oil.
FBI is going to come knocking at any moment
Yeah. You are right bro
I was going to say the same. U got it in before me F B I😎
FBI? What about The Fire Station 👷♂️😂🤣
The most fun I've had in ages, priceless entertainment
I drilled holes in mine, that was growing into our chain link fence and when the kids didn't finish their soda or juice drinks, I'd pour it over the stump. 1 year later, the insects ate it all the way to the ground.
This method might be slightly faster than 600 grit sandpaper.
Ryan Evans 😂😂
Nice! LMFAO
Next time put some holes horizontally and use a leaf blower to increase the heat inside
Thanks for doing this video, Marsh Rat. I will be using your method soon. Your lessons learned comments show how perceptive you are. Don't worry about speeding things up, I could listen to that lovely accent all day.
Excellent!
Did you use more firewood than the tree gave ?
Sir Mathias i was thinking same thing
So many people negatively commenting.. this is one way of doing it which is still finishing the job. Not everybody can swing a pickaxe for hours or rent equipment or have the right equipment at all.. My dad did this and he had every tool available. Was a fun memorable time I had with my father. Great video, cheers.
I need a neighbor like you,, fine work lad !!!
Cheers
On day 4 we lost the garage but the stump is almost gone
Gall darn, we smart.
I’m not sure how the RUclips algorithm brought me here but it knew I would watch. DAMN YOU ALGORITHM!
This video has been brought to you by the Vegetable Oil Manufacturer’s Association.
MR with your chain saw cut a couple of opposed horizontal slits as close to the ground dare. Soak up the cuts with your oil and the fire will burn deeply into the stump. I appreciate you videoing your process every little bit helps.

Is this guy sponsored by vegetable oil
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hudson Howe and bye sandles
Haahahaha
ole
Did I just watch the southern equivalent of watching paint dry?
Watching something burn is more entertaining than watching a bug zapper but darn close. :)
Legend has it, he is still dumping oil on that burnt mess.
A few people mention ways to get it done faster, sometimes you're not looking for faster, especially retired guys. To us, every day's a Saturday ; )
You need more vegetable oil I think
Maybe add some more vegetable oil.
I love his accent and the dedication that he brings to this. I thought at first that he would do the typical ‘Merican thing and blow up the stump but he surprised me with his love of vegetable oil. Well done sir!
Thank you, I think
Mr Marsh Rat. The note was meant as a sincere message of appreciation for your patient and environmentally friendly problem solving. We all have accents and yours is a tribute to the place you grew up in. Take care

Everyone's just watching this in quarantine.
Yall be safe. Cheers
Y’all stay home now ya hear.
Yeah at home in absolute bloody quarantine (wicked Coronavirus)
who else clicked on this video out of curiosity ?
Well, I was actually looking for a good film on beheading, and I somehow accidentally stumbled across this site. However, the day is not lost. With your name, you can probably supply a number of your favorite beheading links from memory.
+Quabledistocficklepo that level of ignorance in your comment...
+Quabledistocficklepo check out (theync.com)
+Quabledistocficklepo bullshit, you were looking for instructions on snoodling
haha and litt!
I watch your videos from start to finish. I love em
Thanks but ran outta material. Got any thoughts?
Looking forward to season 2
A word of caution.
Be aware that a big stump, say 3 ft diameter or more, can have big roots that can continue to burn underground and along the roots for a week or so. I have seen the roots of a pine stump continue to burn for two weeks and 6-10 feet away from the stump.

why am i even watching this, i dont have a stump or even any interest in them.. damn you Covid-19
Pryzm lmao same hahah I guess the drill on a stump had me stumped lmao
Same here. There isn’t even a tree in my yard. And I watched both videos and I’m so bored of them I am reading the comments.
I just realised, I don't have a stump either 🙄😂
Bro ..you are the best. 2 am im dying of laughter.. Keep it up brother
It was when he said DYI project near the end that got me
I came to this channel because I got 60 stumps to remove.
I might look for another solution.
Naw do all 60 of your stumps like he did one at a time. Just be patient
This is more work than anything. I think it would be quicker and easier to just chew on it until it disappears.
very funny...thanks for watching...cheers
I love your style. No loud stupid music or auditioning. And you made your point with no crazy wild camera movements (that was beyond a blessing). You should give classes on how to do RUclips DIY videos. Your process of stump removal was entertaining and interesting. Where I am I'm just afraid of fire issues. The added comments at the end of your video really brought it all together. I have about 30 stumps to remove. Dale Hammond absolutely.
Love a southern accent. I am not sure my neighbours would appreciate this approach but thanks for posting. Greetings from Australia.
No worries!
Damn john u sure get around.
I've never seen anyone deep fry a tree stump before. 😂
I normally throw in a turkey.
I was waiting for you to season it with some garlic and basil.
That'd be some great tasting wood...if you're a Beaver!😁😁😁
You used what seemed like a whole tree to burn a stump. Good job.
No clue how this ended up in my recommendations. But I’m here for it!
I came here from Part 1 just for the comments. Hilarious.
These kind of videos is why I love the Internet. Also why the hell did RUclips suggest it to me?
I did this, now my stump is still there, but my house burned down to the ground.
Thanks.
🤔🙄😂🤣
If you live in Colorado, you just ignited an entire mountain community with this illegal burn.
Diy requires common sence..thats the only people that have the insight to make things work..if you cant burn a treestump without burning your house down..you proabally belong in califorina..but hey go ahead and leave your pretty little wife here...
Jay Dee. Did you mean to sound that creepy or was it an accident?
Don't know what I enjoy more, the accent or the comments.
I burst out laughing when I heard "Day 5 "
...but me, I was crying!
I don't know what's up with all of the hate on this,I honestly think it's a great way to get rid of a stump. Especially for people who don't have alot of resources at hand (like a chainsaw, backhoe, etc.). Not to mention when you brought out the rebar tripod base and cooked up something, that got a hell of a laugh out of me
Good video series, it got me to like/subscribe haha
Thanks for the sub. My small channel appreciates your support.
oh i agree, a thumbs down is still a view, was replying to the comment from sakiLOVER asking why so much hate on your video. good video and congrats on the high view count.

This guy really likes vegetable oil, how long did that take? I think I saw the seasons changing
My kinda old school video. Love it. Thank you so much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This guy owns stock in Big Vegetable Oil! Great video, Marsh Rat. Lots of fun to watch.
Day 66 stump is still there, darn rain.. I've used 103 gallon's of Crisco, which cost me $500. Geez that was a fun way to do it..
prwvideo insane :D LOL
Omg I’m dying!!! You win!!
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Absolutely the bast reply! I’m dying.
lolol! The vegetable oil does nothing!
. . . is there an english version availible?
🤣 More than 16 million views! That's how you fund a retirement! 😵 Great job and much respect, Mr. Rat! 👍🏼😎✌🏼
I loved this video. I sent it to all my siblings. I laughed so hard. This is exactly how a project I’d attempt would go. I ended up covering a couple of small stumps with some plastic rocks from Amazon and my neighbor thought they were tombstones for my cats.
Thanks for your support
After 10 years, 3 million dollars in vegetable oil, and 56 bonfires, he was finally was able to get rid of the stump!
Every time he says 'vegetable oil'
Take a shot of whiskey.
To funny you must be from Wisconsin.
Great ideal for us retired gents. Thanks for sharing
Our pleasure!
I'm so glad part two popped right up so I could watch the conclusion. I always heard you could drill holes and fill with Epsom salt and they rot away.
Did you used a tree worth of wood to get rid of the tree stump?
Buddy you got a perfectly good tractor in your garage back there...
lollll right
But this stump goes to eleven
