Brilliant again! especially the part about left elbow/upper arm shifting as needed to keep wrist aligned. I think in almost has to happen, so it's nice that you grant permission 😉. The typical advice is to just let the upper arm hang down by gravity, so as to relax the shoulder. Here you have succinctly demonstrated a better way, which is easy to digest. I suspect gravity will also still be involved in fretting the chords.
Happy to help! If it still gives you problems, sometimes it can also be the sitting position so just check to make sure you are happy with that. I hope it gets better soon!
Here's a general question not related to this episode. It might be of interest generally. Would you care to share what is going on in you mind as you prepare to play, and begin to play? Does it vary? is it a routine? Curious lutenists want to know...
lol if I am being a good boy, then I am counting and singing in my head as I play. Now, if it is a problem spot that I am working on then I might be thinking about the mechanics of it or potential alternate fingerings. Once everything is learned though, I’m count singing. Before I play the first note of a piece, I will generally count a measure or two in my head. If I’m being bad, then I am probably thinking about my next meal! 😂
@@laudonschuett3019 Excellent! I suspect you are well behaved 80% of the time, and when you are not, then you might be very naughty (because you can?)!

Thank you! It is an interesting topic that is often ignored but even Fernando Sor talked about it in his book so it is certainly nothing new : )
