Tom would be so proud to see his car at the NEC show. I couldn't help but think of him throughout this series and how tickled pink he would be since he is the man responsible for providing this beautiful car to Gary. God Bless you both.
Gary's passion and dedication shines through in every video but the 928 seems to hold an extra special place. What a fabulous car
Certainly shines through 😊 paintwork looks awesome 👏
When Gary bought the car he said it wasn’t really his bag, but it seems to have grown on him and me !
@@rustyfox81 wait until he gets a proper drive in it when the cambelt is done. He'll be hooked
I can now understand why you encouraged me to go and have a look at it at the show. Lots of hard work to get it there. Well done.
What a fabolous work,once again,the attention to detail is....impressive
Thank you Gary to show all of us how a perfect job is done
Thanks Pedro.
Gone are the days of Shade cards , before your time Garry .1970s they spread like a fan and you selected the nearest.😅
Lovely job Gary
Gary, you are a true craftsman! That is a beautiful restoration! Cheers!
Thank you very much!
Looks amazing, great job. Shame the rear wiper isn't parked 😅
Great job 👏 👍
Great job! I knew the trim would be expensive but not that expensive!
I know. Shocker! Just as people telling me ‘I must take the body off to do the lotus chassis’ I’ve been inundated with them telling me I have to remove glass and trim to do a proper job. Common sense has to prevail. Regards
Absolutely stunning Gary. You are a true craftsman. ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome, that deep colour!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I thought you did very well considering it’s new to you, it’s bloody difficult to master 👍👍👍
I tried!! Regards.
Brilliant. Thoroughly enjoyed this video!
Well done Gary it looks fantastic a true rare piece of great engineering
I looked at the car at the NEC before this episode went out and the car looked stunning the colour match was spot on and now watching this the hard work that went into getting it ready for the show makes you appreciate the work that went into it ,the thing about these episodes is they have content no fancy talk ect just a genuine enthusiastic approach to restoring classic cars .
Smashed it yet again mate. Keep the content rolling pal, love watching your videos.
Well done that Man
Outstanding!
Many thanks
Great video, thank you.
Car looks great. Fantastic job...👌
Incredible a job well done
That is n amazing job Gary 🚗👍🏼
BOOM 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Brilliant work 👍👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧☘️☘️☘️👍
It’s about time Gary I’ve been waiting with bathed breath.😊
Who does the camera work on these pods? Love the show and im not a petrol head, my only talents are in bricklaying.
Good for the soul
As you know Tim, you lose your soul to it then as it starts to take shape, you get it back in spades!! Regards.
I have a red 91 GT, catastrophically, expensive to maintain. However, when you go through the gears, it makes you forget costs. I’m at $80k over the last 26yrs….yes, I’m a dumb ass….
being an inquisitive type of person I'd have interrupted the guy at 2:28 when he said 'these are the 2K colours and these are the basecoat colours' like everyone would know what that meant.... I'm not sure but I think what he's saying is the 2K colours are single-stage/direct-gloss and the basecoats will be used under (2K) clear 🤷♂
The car looks stunning Gary, yet again you’ve turned out a superb job. Bravo Sir
brilliant gary brilliant paint scheme what a lovely job you have done again
It looks stunning Gary. Hard work pays off again. After all these years the 928 is still a stunning looking car 👍🏻
Great video Gary. I've been using HB Body products for several years now and really rate it highly, also Steve has given me lots of help and advice over the years. The 989 epoxy primer is exceptionally good, you can thin it right down and spray a thin coat over any burn-throughs to bare metal. Yes indeed, it would be nice to visit the HB Body plant in Greece, it is pretty much state of the art and is about the size of a small village! The 928 looked great on camera, you've done really well with it.
Great project Gary. I had a 1995 928 GTS in 2000 .... wish I hadn't sold it.
Hindsight Graham, we petrol heads all sold cars that we regret selling and still pine after.
Lucky bastard, you had the pleasure of owning one. My dream motor 928 since I was a boy. Many blessings.😅
quality as normal 👍👍
Looks fantastic Gary !! Cambelt is going to be fun 😁
Great to see someone still using a suction feed Devilbiss spray gun when most peeps are on gravity SATA guns now .Saved all my pennies about 45 years ago for my first Devilbiss suction gun which surprisingly came stamped with my initials (JGA) from the factory just like yours .Flatting and polishing always a ball ache …although a bit easier now with da fine discs on a buzz pad which is probably twice as fast as the old school method we used to slog with blocks and flour paper between coats of cellulose ,which ( in my opinion ) still gives a far deeper lustrous shine with an unrivalled depth that modern acrylic paints struggle to match in a hard to describe esoteric way ,particularly on dark maroons and blacks .Top job there with the HB system which I have used many times with similar top results over the years including a full hit on a white Countach just over 10 years ago .Keep up the good work
The colour is spot on from what we can see on camera and then under the big NEC lights that take no prisoners. Well done and not removing the screens and not painting the bonnet or hatch is clearly the right move. Well judged- there’s a lesson there for every restorer about not going too far that the car then owes you too much.
Thanks Lee. I was really pleased with the match considering the roof and tailgate were original single stage paint and I clearcoated the sides.I haven’t touched the bumpers either but if they don’t polish up I’ll probably do them next. Regards.
The music is so period and evocative of the era, genius.
...full blown Amish Mechanic eh? ....You've reached " Peak Brown " with this car ... Mud... rust... and.... yeah, But she's a beauty though. I had been wondering if the para cord would come into play for the back windows.Just needs a nice Clear bra up front, then coat the rest of the car in some Ceramic coating to protect the paint and your set. Just don't try to play jump rope with that 7 ft long timing belt..
edit:
Oh my GAWD I forgot about that interior, god that's gorgeous. Just makes me yearn for one again.
What an artist you 'Are". God lives in the details. Your a Star mate. Magnetic to the camera and the camera never lies. Tremendous, extra - ordinary. Beautiful work. Many blessings.
Much appreciated Stu !
Hi Gary who does your filming? I can't get anyone into my cold garage :) Good video again - enjoyed it.
Fabulous results from your hard graft Gary
Definitely agree on the paint job you done, absolutely ridiculous prices for rubbers and trims, hopefully Motul chipped in?
Just fabulous!
Amazing work Gary. Also can't believe you achieved that level of work under such a deadline
Panics a good thing…sometimes!! Regards
I wanted one back in the day: I could only afford a 924 and I liked that very well.
Gary, that paint job is one a professional would be proud of! This channel is such a pleasure to watch, your passion really shines through, thank you for all the effort you take in making them.
You done a crackin job on the car,,it looks mint..
Love that car ! If only ...... keep up the content x
Leonardo da Vinci himself would not have got the paint so good !
jajajajaja eso si que a estado bueno!! jajajja Pues tienes razón!! Un trabajo excepcional!!
Love that car , looks great 👍
Gary, if it's a Guards Red, them from my recollection, its a single stage paint (no clear coat required). I own a 928 S4 in Guards Red and understand it to be a single stage paint (in the red) and not requiring any clear coat. Cheers
You’re quite right. But faced with the fact the bonnet and front wings had been repainted at some stage and clear coated, I took the decision to leave the roof and tailgate in single stage but repaint both sides in base and clear. Regards.
Again Gary 10out of 10 from Gary, draycott
Great video Gary - it was good to see the car at the show and just how good it now looks.
It was good as the show gave me the push to get going on it. Regards
Fantastic to see it finally restored to its former glory, you’ve done Tom proud there Gary!
Just an aside, I used to put car alarms, stereos and phones in cars back when these were new. I did a GT for a client with a really good stereo upgrade, the car came to us prior to him collecting it new from the dealer. I was moving it from the carport to the workshop, reversing slowly towards the fence, still looking behind me, I put it in first and gently brought the clutch up, and as I turned to face front, there was clouds of smoke billowing from either side of the bonnet. I shouted fire to the other engineers and turned the car off. As I lifted the bonnet my colleague Peter was ready with the extinguisher. A ball of flame erupted across the top of the engine and we zapped it and put it out. Turned out that the car had ruptured fuel injectors from a faulty batch. Porsche did an amazing job of sorting it out, they repainted the engine bay too. The car was a guards red one like yours. I worked on that car many times over the years and loved it, a real treat to collect and deliver back to the client. I’ve always loved Porsches and finally bought my first 911 at the end of last year.
Great story! We never really find out the behind the scenes at dealers do we? I bought a brand new Boxter around the year 2000. It was a manual but after just as week it wouldn’t shift or select gear. After two recoveries they finally sorted it saying it was something to do with the selecter bushes. I never experienced another problem over the next four years and eventually sold it. Lovely car. Never even saw the engine!!
@@classic.obsession You never get all the story from the dealers, the local Audi dealership had my RS6 from the beginning of June last year, through to the last week of September, they had the engine out twice to attempt fixing the fault. I got it back and part-exed it for the 911 immediately. I found out later that the new owner had the same problem occur again!
Anything a bit involved they just farm it out the back door to local garages they trust. None of the specialists would entertain doing a Cambelt. All of them said it was much easier to work on 911’s. Joke!
@@classic.obsession That's a disgrace that a trust dealership wouldn't even attempt a cambelt service on a car they sold new. Everyone just wants the easy and profitable jobs and damn the wind to any of the others!
I thought a 928 was a non-interference engine? If so, cam belt failure wouldn't be catastrophic.
No Patrick. So many of these cars died because of neglected cam belt changes. I’m terrified to start it until I’ve had the time to change it. The 924’s were non interference. Regards.
Cracking job , Gary . Looks the business, well done.
Lovely job, now just don’t crunch it like you did the Corniche, I don’t think those aluminium bumper struts will give much protection ! 😊
Oh my goodness she looks amazing……
Outstanding!! 🍻 Cheers from Defuniak Springs,Fl !! USA
The interior upholstery is beautiful. And the manual transmission is the best option to feel driving and get the most out of it. good job!
Couldn't agree more!
Just started watching your vids , have to say very impressed. And now hooked . I have a two s197 Mustangs that ive done lots too. Once more really enjoy your work, and its real ie just you doing it.
Very nice
Would be interesting to learn more about car paint.
I know what you mean about rubber seal, around 5 years ago before the inflation mega trend, a popular classic cost me £50 per door seal.
Quite a transformation Gary, another great video. If I had half your skills, I’d be a millionaire.
An outstanding job Gary.
Fantastic!
Very nice
Wow love the 928 always have
Gary didn't know you where in all creatures great and small haha laughed out loud another great video
Thanks
John your friend from Glasgow
The legendary 928 is one of my favorite Porsche models
Great work Gary. I agree that the other sections looked fine as they were. It's very easy to spend other people's money. Look forward to it being reunited with the previous gentleman owner.
Cambelt and shocks next then it should be ready to take him out in. Regards
@@classic.obsession So that reunited episode is coming soon? I'm dieing of anticipation Gary!
Looks great Gary Regards from Liverpool
Outstanding as usual, just what this car deserves 👌🏻
Looks outstanding Gary, well done.
Many thanks
Well done Gary....another beautiful job.
Absolutely fascinating.
Thank you!
I saw the car at the NEC. It looked fabulous.
Great job Gary, the paintwork looks fantastic.
Excellent.
Top job mate, you made the installation of those rear three quarter lights look a breeze, I have done one, admittedly on my own and made a right pigs ear of it - leaked for months until I got a pro to re-do it! Lovely finish, now can you come over and fix the roof on my R129 that refuses to work since I took the hard top off for Summer use! It's never going on again because every year it comes off there's trouble! Bloody cars eh?!!!! Great!!!!
Refuses to go up and down? Won’t that just be a relay?
Porsche just oozes quality now
Well done your hard work has been worth it
What a vid ,love them you are so talented. ❤
Wow. 😍
Rare car indeed. I have one of the other ones in right hand drive in my possession. Its my father's car and he has lovingly restored it to pretty much the same level as yours. I believe it to be the only Tahoe Blue 928GT in existence. Over 200k miles and still driving like it did straight from the factory.
It’s weird. I don’t think people, even Porsche Officianados are aware of how rare these cars actually are and I am confused as to why so few were produced in RHD manual Gt’s. Regards.
Nice job. Was waiting to see how the aluminium window trims go on (as I want to replace mine) but understandably you can't spend too much time on any one part of the video when there's so much to cover. Really impressive how much work you got through in a week
Thanks Jo. Just make sure the curved walking stick end is underneath (and meets) the trim above it before you push the trim down into place on the door. Otherwise if it’s side by side and slightly proud it’s almost impossible to correct and you’ll have to remove again and start from scratch. Slippery little sucker, very easy to damage and soooo expensive so be careful and take your time. Imagine having to replace every piece on the car!! What a mindless job that must have been back at the factory. Regards.
Ffs I spent ages writing a comment and deleted it by accident 😢 , in a nut shell you did an absolutely amazing job on that very rare 928 it looks fantastic inside and out, I was waiting for this video for a while it did not disappoint, thank you
Thanks Pete. There’ll be lots more to come mate! Regards
Such a beautifull color combination.
Splendid
Car looks absolutely stunning 👍
What a finish on that motor Gaz - seriously mate it is popping. Would be interested to see HB factory in Greece.
I agree. It’d make an interesting episode. Regards
A great job Gary 🥰🥰🥰
These videos never disappoint, at the end with the car at the show, just fabulous 👍
The Porsche looks stunning wow
Looks the business that!
Well done
Good job Gary, great job mate.
🤘😎🤘🚗💨🇬🇧
Looking good Gary. Well done!
