    Few tipp that helped me:
    1. Use Sonarworks Reference. That flatens the curve for Headphones and Speakers.
    2. If you use Kick2 you can tune your kick very easyly and much faster
    3. use shaperbox 2 to duck bass with different curves on multible bands. like a multibandcompressor maybe. That works for me and it can do a lot more.

    Hi for the issue you explain at "tune your kick" check the plugin Chop Suey from Sinee out! There you can drag&drop your kick and have it separated in transient, body, and tale and you can edit/change them separately and move them around to avoid artifacts.
    Great videos by the way. love what you do

    Yalcin, another great video man! Glad to see your channel getting the attention it deserves. I just wanted to provide some additional insight around the 10:18 mark. I know it's just an easy tip to pick a quick strong sub note, but in a way that advice can work as a constraint. I'm not sure if you mentioned this, but picking a square wave as a sub (or any waveform with more harmonic content than a pure sin wave) can really help the weaker 'sub frequencies' for notes such as C or D. Just wanted to throw this in there. Thanks again man!

    • @briancase6180
      @briancase6180 3 года назад

      Another way is using the right kind of saturation. Not many saturators work well for low end (at least in my experience), but some do. Using a waveform with harmonics and saturation are two ways to get harmonics into your low notes (or any sound in general). You might prefer one over the other depending on the other sounds in the track. You can also try emulations of analog gear in plugin form: usually, the designer of the plugin will try to model the saturation imparted by the analog gear (e.g., the output transformer). So, you can sometimes use a plug-in in "pass-through" mode (e.g., no EQ change with an EQ plug-in) just to get the saturation of the tubes and xformers. An example if this would be a pulteq EQ with everything set at zero (but a good pulteq emulation will add about 0.5dB to the level, so be mindful of that).

    Just wanna add that you have now awesome (and affordable) softwares like Realphones that allow curbing of the frequency response associated with your specific pair of headphones (via custom profiles). That makes for a MUCH smoother mixing-that and getting higher end speakers with room correction feature really changed everything for me.

    Yes Yalcin! This is my biggest issue as a producer! I've finally been starting to figure it out, and I'm sure this video will help tons with that process. Deep house is my favorite genre, but mixing the low end has been such a problem for that it's kinda driven me away from producing deep house and more into producing techno, because for whatever reason I have had a lot more success at mixing the low end in techno.
    I've finally been getting back into producing deep house though, and it's been so exciting. Thanks for posting this 🙏🙏

    • @briancase6180
      @briancase6180 3 года назад

      Personally, I proceed with caution when trying to tune a kick. Most of the time, if I feel I need to tune the kick, I soon realize the problem is that the kick is too long. As deadmou5 says, "a kick is transient. You don't tune transients." When I reduce the length of the kick, I either decided it's now the wrong kick, or it's *much* better being shorter. As for not tuning transients.... I often tune high hats and other percussion, but I wouldn't dare contradict deadmou5!

  • @briancase6180

    Great video with important information. One more idea: I have it on good authority that professional mixers often use *separate channels* with separate instruments (synth or recorded notes) for *each note* of the base and sub bass (if there is one; there's almost always is a sub in EDM). No, not every note, every note value (all the G's are on a channel, all the A's are on another channel, etc.). Then each channel is leveled and EQ'd and etc separately so the sound can be controlled. I think this might be overkill in some situations, but it's a good thing to keep in mind if the level of different notes varies a lot and compression doesn't give you the results you're looking for. Just a thought. You can even vary the cutoff of the filter for each note to achieve a consistent sound *or* to achieve a special sound that you're looking for (automation might be sufficient depending on how fast the bass line moves).

    Absolute "gold" video!
    I have one question about the Sub-Bass .... you have brilliantly described about the "sweet spot" for subs, and suggest using "E, F or G" if possible .... but what if we are producing a song in another key, for example in "C" .... and we can't change the key, perhaps it's a remix of an existing song, or any other reason. What do we do in this instance? Seems that a lower C is too low, and a higher C is too high .... I come across this problem all the time, and would love to hear thoughts on how to best approach this! Huge thanks.
