Cliff, Those red flowers off of that tree reminded me of my youth on the farm, Actually brought tears to my eyes. What a peaceful place. I knew a group of boys, The Norristown Cadets, who used to come to the Jersey Shore and compete in Racewalking. I got to know them through my club, The Shore A.C. and helped them to learn how to handle long distance competition mentally. I still have a picture standing with them and wearing a T Shirt they gave me , Fred's Friends. I wish I had visited their area , what a place to live and train. Best Wishes, Rik

That was a nice walk. Sometimes, I go down by the river where I live. They have a nice walkway there. People go bicycling, walking, sometimes a horse and rider can be seen, and when the river is high, I can see people canoeing in it. It's pretty shallow right now unfortunately. It is always busy with a lot of people.

A great aunt was involved in a romantic scandal A family tradition. ha ha.But the bittersweet memory is about my father who had many mental health issues back in the 50s. One of his doctors told my mother to take him for a ride and to drive by Norristoen state hospital. The doctor thought it would scare him out of his problems. It terrified him instead and he was convinced my mother would have him committed. She did not. They switched doctors. But I notice the hospital is still in existence.. As long as you are in that area. As a child I was fascinated with Naylor's Run ( Upper Darby) Last visit was when I was 10 back in 1958. I bet it has lost its childhood charm :)

Thank you, another great video but making me terribly homesick, grew up in Montgomery County. Looking forward to Ft. Washington state park, my father built the homes across from it on Militia Hill Rd, back in the 60s
I live right across the road, you can almost see my house from that parking lot. The funny thing is that I lived there for almost 20 years before I ever checked it out. There used to be a lot more old houses and other old structures in the park, a few of them still occupied. For some reason the park people have demolished many of them. There are a few short unpaved trail sections that branch off from the main trail. The back of the park runs along the Norristown State Hospital, which is mostly unused now but has some interesting old buildings. There's also a trout hatchery which is not officially open to the public but usually if people are working there they often will let you come in to look around. BTW, Montgomery cemetery in Norristown is old and interesting. Five Civil War generals are buried there, including Winfield Scott Hancock. It was very overgrown and neglected the last time I visited, I believe it's been cleaned up since then.
I live appx 3 minutes from here and it was great to see this. Ive been to the park quite a few times, its great to go there. Going by the park on a regular basis, youll always be seeing ppl there walking the trails. Youre right, the Norristown State hosp right next to this is very interesting (with quite a history) as well as the (nearby) Norristown Cemetery, with the Civil War connection. Another place thats closeby and definitely worth a visit is Selma Mansion, Ive been there once but will be going back - that has an interesting history too. So much good stuff closeby!

Woohoo From Montgomery County, TX, currently here working in Montgomery County PA We have been watching you a long time and have been PATIENTLY waiting to be in your state for work and pleasure! Last weekend we went up to the Grand Canyon of PA!! Wow! People you gotta go!! Because of you we have seen countless other places you have shared. Was great to view the woods along the highway on our journeys because we were able to see so very many rock fences up the hillsides designating various boundaries. Also the info on canals helped us immensely as we drive or train ride along the rivers, like up around Jim Thorpe! Gosh made your info come alive! We have passed you along to many other folk along our journeys and will continue to do so. Thanks for the memories past, present and future!! TnT T of Tx

Nice job, Cliff. Yea I complain there's not enough open space anymore. Builders have to make a buck, but for pete's sake, it's not a crime to protect open country from urbanization. I love your videos showing they still let it alone in some places

The coolest part of this state park is the trout fishery in the northeast corner of park. They raise trout for live release into nearby streams. Also this is a good park to hike with a buddy. The area around this is not safe and the park does have crime issues from time to time.
go to wissahickon valley park is only 20 minutes from Norristown use the entrance at Flowertown PA,also I recommend Tobyhanna state park and Cherry spring state park
This is part of the old but still I use Norristown State Hospital. Back then they would have the patience farm during the summer months and sell the produce.
You should visit Lock ridge furnace and in may the museum opens. It is located in the small town of Alburtus penna. They have paths and ruins. Neat place.

Lee's plantation was called Arlington. The government turned it into a cemetery after the Civil War.

I lived in Collegeville, PA and went to that park a few times. Lived right on the Perkiomen trail.
