Dawid: "Numbers can't be sarcastic"
Also Dawid: "and for that, alienware gets -200 points"
😅
@@DawidDoesTechStuff your scoring is more entertaining then the reviewers that i am seeing. keep up a sarcastic, bow, do smt weird to the prebuilt that is dumb and stupid
@@DawidDoesTechStuff Yeah, please do a vid where you attempt to fix the horrible thermals and noise of the AW, I’d love to watch that struggle. 😏
it deserves that, i would have given it more like -100000 points at least... i would never buy a system that is this unstable...
numbers cant be sarcastic, but you can use them in a sarcastic way!
Dawid being sarcastic about someone saying he is too sarcastic is hilarious lol 😆
-200 points cause the computers trolling him I loved that one🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dawid's arbitrary scoring system. Clearly a 653/10 result if I ever I saw one.

@@Cer049 I came here to give the EXACT SAME score! I think that's math!
I feel like Dawid should petition the UN to make it a war crime to ship gaming computers with a single 8GB stick of RAM.
It is the users who want upgrade the RAM by themselves.
You mean human rights violation?
@@ChrisDied both
That really bothers me how they do that.. especially with Ryzen systems. It can't be adding very much cost to use 2x4GB instead of 1x8GB . Then when you do want to upgrade you have to buy 2 sticks anyway.
Hopefully at the very least they mention 1 stick in the specs.
@@fffrrraannkk
The real reason that 8g sticks are cheaper amd more avaliable than 2*4 kits.
And 8g is pretty much the minimum config for a functinal gaming prebuilt.
You either order 16-32, in tzhe case where you are planning to use it for games with the stock config, pr you buy the least expesive RAM option and replace the RAM with a decent kit.
First Dawid uses Jeremy Clarkson levels of metaphors, and now he uses a TopGear scoring system. I'm sensing a pattern.
yeah, i assume he's watched some old top gear
Damn, you caught me.
I knew you where Jeremy Clarkson in disguise and with a voice changer
Seeing this video resulted in 2 things:
1). Reminded me of how much I miss Top Gear
2). Informing me of a genre I didn't know I needed but now can't live without = Top Gear style nonsense head-to-head tech competitions.

"no... no, it's red".

It's frankly impressive how a dell prebuilt achieves the same high performance score as a custom built PC would!
I'm talking about the portability score.
You cab build a PC much smaller . One that might even fit in that bag and out perform the dell . Much worse than a laptop , powerbrick and mouse tho.
Sorry but no. I recently built a much superior system with a i7 10700k (with an AIO)/6600XT/16GB DDR4 3200Mhz(2x8GB)/256+1TB m.2 NVME's with custom heatsinks and a ASUS Z590 TUF GAMING PLUS motherboard for just a little over 1.1k which is not only hugely superior hardware wise - it's also smaller, runs much cooler, looks better and is all around more futureproof as nothing is proprietary. No - this Dell comes nowhere close to a decent quality custom built in the same price range. It's just overpriced garbage as Dell Alienware always is.

The Alienware only lost because it still has something to peel off on the side panel, that would've solved your memory issues.

Dell? More like Bell with the ring the Alienware makes when the side panel closes XD
Lmao
Dare we ask what you scored on Dawid's Scoring System?
This is the type of consumer oriented content I have been looking for
The scoring system is still way more accurate than UserBenchmark's system
Every Dawid video seems so satirical and calm at the same time. Always a joy watching your videos. Especially even though you get some really amazing sponsors and tech you love to post unique and "cheap" tech to review and use in videos which I've found many other popular tech channels don't do at all nowadays.
Really enjoying this new scoring system, it just makes so much sense! Keep it going Dawid, I think everyone will agree with me on this.
I could be wrong, but I feel like the laptop won the noise test. The tone of the alienware seems like it would still be heard through headphones, while the laptop’s tone might not.
I was thinking the same thing. The AW sound almost sounded like a ground loop feedback. This is where you can tell the difference between a cheap MB and fans and good ones.
Awesome video, something I have wanted to compare and see for a few months. Keep up the excellent work Dawid 👍
Your content is absolutely brilliant! I've binged so many videos over the last couple of days haha keep up the great work Dawid 👍
David you need to try the laptop hoocked up to an external display because laptop without a mux switch have a really strange limit on the GPU. I have a rog with a 2060 and plugging it in a monitor gets the spu usage from 50 to 100
I was going to say the same, the weird GPU usage is probably a bottleneck from the Copy Engine of the integrated graphic card...
@@kypdurron I think that is because in laptops without mux switches the processing power needs to pass through the igpu before the display. This adds even a lot of latency
Nice video, for next time I would go for a CMOS reset strait away, if swapping ram doesn't work ;)
Adding a numeric scoring system to your comparison videos is definitely banana out of 10 and I'd rate this specific review a solid 5/7. Thanks Dawid!
love the vids Dawid, keep them coming
so i had a version of this laptop that had the Ryzen 7 4800 and the RTX 2060 in it for a while. I noticed the bottleneck too with the built in display. Figured out that the built in display uses the on board graphics built into the Ryzen processor as a kind of scaler. It pushes video through the RTX 2060 then through the Ryzen VEGA video to be displayed on the built in screen. If you use an external monitor through the Type C port, you should get better FPS and a more consistent performance through the GPU as it will no longer go through the VEGA graphics chip.
I've noticed the same thing with an Intel laptop - the graphics go through the main GPU, then through the Intel iGPU to the laptop's screen. The laptop seems much more powerful when displaying on my TV.
it's OPTIMUS in effect..... pretty much standard for years now, hence why MUX switches have become popular in recent times
if the display ports are directly hooked to the dGPU then it will bipass the iGPU
6:08 this is due to the poor bios installed on the system by default, dell has realized this and has made a downloadable bios update that fixes everything.
Even Dell's best BIOS is mediocre compared to the rest of the industry
I really enjoy the objective and non-sarcastic scoring system used in this video. It goes a long way to helping me better understand your content.
Only Dawid can came up with a score system to eliminate sarcasm.. and creating more sarcasm at the end!
I love his content if is so fun to watch
Dawid youre content's always amazing, keep doing your thing!
I actually love your humor, sarcasm and all. Main reason i subscribed to channel
I'm glad you tried the other part of the backpack.
You shouldn't disregard the OEM provided veneril disease in laptops. Its kinda crucial to most functions including RGB controls and even performance controls.
I don't know if you used Turbo mode in the video, but if not, you could get better performance on the laptop, because Turbo mode usually OCs the GPU a little and increases the CPU TDP budget as well.
I may be wrong, but from my experience with gaming laptops, hearing those fans they sounded like they were maxed out the way they are on the highest laptop setting.
The ram speed story is 100% relatable and I loved it
the computers trying to troll him cause it was bored I loved that one which is why I building my own cunstom computers and thus avoid that prebuilt trolling crap
I don't know why your videos are so bingeable, I watch so many of your vids, keep it up man you're doing something right to hook me in 😂
Dude, your sarcasm is why I continue to watch this channel. I ABSOLUTLY love your humor. Also I can't believe you waited 2 hours to reset the bios, what are you, some kinda n00b xD
Just a note on McAfee removal: McAfee themselves now offer their own removal tool that, at least in my experience, completely nukes it from existence (though this was in a nonOEM bloatware scenario with Adobe). Link below:
download.mcafee.com/molbin/iss-loc/SupportTools/MCPR/MCPR.exe
Just nuke the entire OS with a clean Windows ISO.
Thanks for this! I find it hilarious that their software is so difficult to purge from a system that they needed to make their own piece of software to get rid of it.
@@DawidDoesTechStuff "McAfee is like the mob; you pay for "protection", don't act surprised when you have an "accident" after you don't pay, and there's no easy way of getting rid of them short of a fresh start."
This subject always brings to mind John McAfee's 2013 RUclips video about removing this software for me. (You can look it up if you haven't seen it.)
I just always reinstall the OS when I get a new PC. Download my drivers in advance to new USB stick from another PC.
Hey Dawid, did you adjust the timings for the 3200mhz? The timings for 2666mhz will not work with 3200mhz at the same voltage. To know the correct timings look at the specification on the memory stick. For such a stick this would for example be: PC4 3200/19/19/19/40. The memory will run at lower timings when on 2666mhz, for example C17/17/17/35.
But with RAM with XMP, are those timings certified to work?
@@JeskidoYT Yes, but that doesn't mean the settings will work with your cpu/motherboard. You need to inform yourserlf beforehand. I recommend reading the motherboards memory compatibility list, if you want a guarantee.
5:20
When you overclock RAM or even just clock it to it's rating, your system can sometimes have a panic attack. When this happens the system either doesn't boot, post, or even turn on. This happened to me when I thought I had 3600MHz RAM when I really only had 3200MHz. I clocked it to 3600 and my pc bluescreened after I booted it and didn't turn on. So when this happens, CLEAR THE CMOS! There are usually two pins on your motherboard (depending on your manufacturer) that you have to jump with a metal object like a screwdriver in order to reset the CMOS. Usually it says something like BAT, JBAT, or CMOS RESET next to it. Just jump those pins with a screwdriver for about 10 seconds and all your BIOS settings will reset. Then go in and set all your customs again.
Sure, but it's a bit ODD that the CMOS was cleared and it defaulted to 3200MHz one time and 2666MHz the other. That's concerning. Having said that, I read something about UEFI being in nvRAM (non-volatile memory) but apparently some things get cleared by CMOS and some things don't. It's very confusing.
Well shitty 3600 ram is usually 3200 OC ram, check the voltage and timings on the sticker, try to run it manually at 1.3 volts or up, 1.45 is usually the max safe but you should check just in case.
But why would the CMOS keep resetting back the settings and prevent you from overclocking?
@@JeskidoYT You can only overclock your hardware if it supports overclocking and if you have good cooling. Resetting the CMOS resets those overclocked settings in your BIOS back to the rated defaults for your hardware. Therefore, if you overclocked your hardware and your pc crashed and you have no way back into your operating system or your BIOS, resetting the CMOS can fix that. Then just go back into your BIOS and keep experimenting with overclocking your CPU and RAM.
@@goa141no6 No it's decent RAM. I run 32gb of Corsair vengeance RGB pro. The only thing being is that I bought a 3600MHz 16Gb 2x8Gb kit and then as a christmas gift my brother got me the same kit so I could have 32Gb of RAM but it was only rated at 3200MHz so when I installed it and tried to run the 3600MHz even with the higher voltage, it would crash so I resorted to just keeping it at 3200MHz
ooh I have that same mug! great video as always!
Once again you cracked me up! Great job!
The same problem happened with an a320 motherboard even if you use a 2400g. Every single time you change hardware, needs to reset CMOS
Nomal behaviour, the previous CMOS saved config may not allow for a POST.
@@killersberg1 never happened with a b350.
@@camirock17 That is not good. That might cause a no POST szenario. If you can't access the CMOS battery that will be a problem.

TLDW: With this crazy GPU crisis, buying a laptop is much better!!
That's what I did. The chip shortage doesn't seem to be messing with laptop prices as much. Got razer with i7 and 2080 super for 1500. Even got a chair and a bag thrown in
@@sillysailor5932 And the biggest plus is that you can bring it anywhere. Way better value.
@@KatoJac Fax. If you're used to game with a monitor, a gtx 1660ti and i7 laptop is a plausible buy then buy a 240hz monitor. You may spend around 900 too 1100 dollars.
This is what i did
I got the rog with a 5900hx and 3050ti for $1450 CAD. it's such a boss system, thermals are phenomenal. Play a lot of older games and it crushes them with excellent thermals.
Dawid, resetting the CMOS should ALWAYS be the very FIRST thing you do when any pc fails to boot after altering the ram in any way. For this reason I am over ruling your 200 point deduction on the Alienware, and thus awarding it the win here. JS NK
This is why I watch your channel Dawid, you had me in the first half!
Great video, Dawid. I burst out laughing at the "Portability" category. Clearly an impartial decision not designed to hurt the already-doomed Alienware. 🤣
Regarding the gaming performance, however, I wish you had noted the laptop frequently won in the 1% lows, especially once you made your magic upgrade. I found that quite interesting.
remember to Be Quiet
Ive eaten enough dirt and the dent in my head keeps growing that the simple numbers are nice, also Alienware is pretty bad for software glitches, both my alienwares have rgb glitching witch makes it not work half the time, the fan controller also likes to reset and set the fans to full speed all the time, drivers a nightmare and Alienware fx is shit tier at best.
ALMAAAAAA STOOOOP
Dawid's sarcasm and humor is why I subscribed. I could watch anyone drone on about specs, I'm here to be entertained. Thanks for showing some personality Dawid.
Gotta say I love your sarcasm and would cry if that were ever to stop.
The problem with the low GPU utilisation is that those laptops do not have a mux swich (wich means the gpu routs it signal to the iGPU (wich bottlenecks the performans) to the laptop display)
to prevent this with ASUS laptops u have to use a usb c dongle at the usb c port and hook up to a external display
Hmm my legion has a mux switch...
I feel like Asus should get extra points for making you not recreate "the crying game" in the shower from the shame of buying an alienware.
So far my favorite thing about your videos was the hilarious metaphors which I don't remember, but they make me laugh historically.
And now the new scoring system has just joined that favourites club.
Good going.

That was a very well explained video.
I loved your methodology and you made good cases for each point.
Excellent stuff!
So interesting to see Desktops price/performance aligning with laptops due to the Parts price inflation.
2-3 years ago I think a $1,200 alienware would have completely destroyed a $900 laptop. Heck a $500 Budget PC would have probably still beaten it handily.
BTW I was thinking of different ways to justify spending money on GPUs in the current market and I decided to use the 2080ti launch MSRP as my baseline.
Honestly. Using that as a baseline to work forwards from, all of the prices fall very well in line for products equal to and above the 2080ti. Sadly It does not help to justify the prices of cards less performant.
If your PC refuses to boot after messing with ram always reset the CMOS. You'll save yourself hours of messing with things that work.
It's usually bios that messes up when something with RAM is changed.

I got the Asus ROG Strix G15 (2020) edition for $1000. RTX 2060, one of the first laptops with i7-10870h (which is insanely powerful), but only 8GB ram 3200Mhz, and I upgraded it to 32.
I‘m extremely happy with it, it runs for 1.5 years 3 hours a day at least running at max performance.
I changed the SSDs (3 slots), the rams (2 slots) but I haven’t changed the thermal paste just yet.
The only problem is the fact that it sounds like a jet engine (the GPU runs at 89•c and the CPU runs all the way up to 95•c) and the display isn’t as colorful as my monitor.
nice. the grading system is a breath of fresh air.
While you were shoving the Alienware into the bag ineffectually, I noticed there was still protective plastic on the side of the case. Maybe if you took that off, it might fit?
Dawid, keep doing videos like these... This is your calling... You are very smart and talented, but there is a million tech reviewers out there- None of them could pull off these videos like you, it was absolutely brilliant to duct tape an entire pc together for an episode lol... Stay true to who you are, and you are gunna soar to the top!!!
You're actually a legend!
I may be incorrect, but I believe the XMP profile does more than just change the RAM speed. I believe it's a complete OC profile. Just changing the RAM speed could cause issues. Also pro tip, if you change something in the BIOS and the computer stops POSTing, always start with CMOS.
