    宋王台的一段,記錄了一班話潑,佻皮,充滿朝氣,活力的年輕人完美、快樂的一天。八十年前真摯的笑臉、打鬧,我們還可清楚見到,但這班昔日的年輕人現在俱已作古。

    They are from my very distant relatives in the States. They find these 8mm films and converted them to digital. I took out the part which I think was from Hong Kong (the rest is from Canton), improved the quality (shaky camera, brightness), and added in music.
    These have to be some of the earliest footages of Hong Kong in 8mm film cause 8mm is only invented in 1932.

    Millions thanks for sharing this family movies! I have been waiting for ages to see a movie record of the Holy Hill (Sung Wang Tai). This Hill is demolished before I was born, I search and search for any clue of this place which hold an important history of Hong Kong. With this movie, the world will know of this Holy Hill again. I hope that Hongkonger will remember this place as the Chan family have planned when they capture the joyous life of their youngs in Hong Kong

    13:57 Chatham Road South, to the south of its intersection with Cameron Road. In the far background, buildings of Gun Club Hill Barracks can be seen on the hill. Those buildings still exist today but covered by trees. The playground looks like one along the east side of Chatham Road South, the white railings are typical of those along KCR.

      Sorry for making a mistake. I love your film a lot, because it shows the old-fashioned look of St. Andrew's Church on Nathan Road in Kowloon. This is the church I have attended since 1986. I am greatly saddened by the expansion of the church that has marred its original appearance, the history of which will never be seen and felt after a large scale re-development project.

    Precious clip of affluent life in HK in the 1930s. Had I not read the description, would have assumed it be Shanghai.
    One eye-catching feature is the the billboards near the church 3:42 to 3:48 & 3:56. Advertisement of imported wholesome drinks: "Yeast-vite", Bovril & Ovaltine. Recalled a Cantonese movie filmed in the late 1930s or early 1940s in which Ovaltine was served in hotel.

    Thank you very much. Amazing. It is precious movie with nice music. This is the first time I can take a clear look at Sung Wong Toi and the surrounding from movie. I am impressed by the youngsters of those generation too. I found that the shot at 11:33 is the Sincere in Shanghai. The owners of Sincere (先施)and Wing On (永安) had close relationship. To family had stocks of Wing On. It is found that To Chun-man (杜仲文) is the former owner of Nam Koo Terrace in Wanchai. To Chun-man held the position of Chief Chinese Silks Salesman (專理紗羅綢緞員) for Wing On Company Limited (永安有限公司), although he was later promoted to Assistant Manager (副司理). In 23 Aug, 1937, Shanghai Sincere was damaged by the Japanese bombardment (v.qq.com/page/c/e/4/c0017gpp3e4.html). This part may be taken within 1937-1941

    • @leonardccto
      @leonardccto  7 лет назад +1

      People in the video are from my mom's side.
      I thought it might be GZ Sincere but it is indeed SH Sincere. It isn't the Japanese who bombed it though, but an accident by the Chinese pilots. KMT claimed that it was the Japanese during the war for obvious reason and that's what most people chose to believe til today. Historians, and pilots survived have proven otherwise.
      Video was taken before the war.

    • @wongrichard7403
      @wongrichard7403 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your sharing again. The video is really precious. By logical thinking, If it was done by Japanese, the bombardments might not occur at one point but in a large area.

    Precious footage of Hong Kong. The Antiquities and Monuments Office now at 136 Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon can be seen at 3:14 minutes. From 9:39 minutes onward the film negative has been flip, you can see some Chinese characters in an inverted way. At 11:37 minutes, the shot captured the "先施" characters sign on the top of the mast, that's the evidence the sea voyage's destination in the footage is Canton (Guangzhou.). From the Guangzhou footage, we can see there are lots of damaged houses and buildings, it is believed the filming took place after the invasion of Japanese Army to Guangzhou started in April 1938.

    蠢色無邊 出夜皇后 - 陳雲裳(1939) 詞: 2019-3-2 睇實間厰穿櫃桶
    1. 無邊春色在兒家,滿眼塵凡,官商勾結太喧嘩,如圖鴉,萬億盡亂花。人工造島高高掛,隨微風左右傾斜。海正填,沙未到,官商鎮上賣民作生涯。
    2. 風光最好上林蠢,吉日良田,圖誇功裏召塵凡,宮娥引,今日叩天閹。貪錢腐販升升升,透誅簾記鼎香昏。整劏民,理老民,懵懂熊抱天子舊情人。
    3. 淒涼維港舊容顏,月缺花殘,風水修復路漫漫,重想貪,不語勝嗚咽。大彎區與長生墊,估基建樣樣超支。一笑官,年千怨,維港失救,此恨總綿綿。
    電台rap:-商務及經濟發展局局長邱騰華今早(2日)在電台節目表示,雖然本年度財政盈餘少於過往數年,但新增開支仍達1500億港元,顯示政府審視目前經濟環境下都沒有縮減開支。對於有意見批評,財政預算案派糖規模縮減,邱指市民可能只「睇住粒糖」,留意政府的派糖措施,但香港「都要睇住間廠」,認為面對經濟不穩情況,單靠開支穩定社會是不足夠。.

    what is "Ye Olde"?

    • @leonardccto
      @leonardccto  6 лет назад

      "Ye olde" is a pseudo-Early Modern English stock prefix, used anachronistically, suggestive of a Merry England, Deep England or "old, as in Medieval old" feel. A typical example would be Ye Olde English Pubbe or similar names of theme pubs.

    真的很懷念昔日香港,以前著住條開浪褲啫彈彈咁四維去的日子不可再,豆零打個炮,又有幾多人享受過,希望香港可回復舊昔,我們不要什麼高樓大廈,不要汽車,地鐵,每月收入幾十萬,只係浪費人生,做人其實可以好簡單,五大訴求,決一不可,寧願捱餓,不願進步,迷戀昔日,自我中心,重有以前笨唔係窮,因為富在心中,現在香港人太富裕,出入全部都係高尚地方,每個人又鬼咁有品味,就連個天知道香港人有訴求,就派勇武肺人去打鳩世界,咁你就知道香港人咩嘢啦⋯⋯
