    Saw them support REM 1995 tour Brisbane. The song which I didnt know at the time completely floored me.....energy, craft, beautiful lyrics....a semi religious experience

  • @SGPnym
    @SGPnym 12 лет назад +7

    This song is a pure stroke of genius. Literary and relevant. It's about government, it's about religion, all spun into the Branch Davidian - Justice Department standoff narrative in Waco Tx. I remember seeing it all on TV when I was 13. A bunch of naive, but innocent people holed up in a compound with the full bore of the US government bearing down on them. The whole thing was horrifying, regardless of what you think about Janet Reno's decision or David Koresh. Complete tragedy on all sides.

    Ahhhh yes!! The mighty Grant Lee Buffalo!! Awesome song from one of the Top 10 albums of the 90s. This band really mattered. Have seen Grant (post-GLB) several times live and he ALWAYS delivers. Amazing talent and a hell of a nice guy.

    "The trumpet blast is blending with the crack of burning wood'. Some powerful lyrics that absolutely captures the tragedy of Waco.

    The trumpet blasts were blending.....with the crack of burning wood........what lyrics
    powerful song........incredibly sad subject.......with an incredibly sad outcome.....captured brilliantly in a song........as an artist your dream is to write and perform something meaningful that will live on after your gone.....this is that song

      Noreen Couldn't agree more. There is true artistry in telling a story in a way that really moves you. This song captures a tragic event beautifully.

    This song is being used by a portuguese tv channel called "sic radical" to promote their tv shows.
    Like me many other people had the luck to know this song.

    Man, I keep coming back to Grant Lee Buffalo and it never loses its flavor. A great band, who surely never saw the starlight it was meant to see. Played this song tonight for "Super Tuesday" and all the political mumbo jumbo.

    What I really like about this video is that there is not one clip from the Branch Davidian siege (which is the surface action referred to in the song) and in avoiding the obvious visuals, creates an entirely more dynamic presentation. In essence, it is taking the song beyond the lyrics.
    The above comments are true, GLB is way underrated.

    This song is about a the Waco Seige of the Branch Davidians by the ATF. It lasted 51 days ended with a fired that consumed the entire compound in less than a half hour. Seventy-six people, including 21 children and two pregnant women, along with Davidian leader David Koresh died in the fire. The FBI thought it would be a great idea to pump tear gas (a gas that is meant for outdoor use) into the compound to get the Davidians to come out. The gas was also extremely flammable.

      You know who sounds like Neil Diamond? Peter Murphy of Bauhaus. My brother noticed it one day and I could never shake the truth of it from my head, I can’t un-hear it. Y’know- Neil Diamond except art goth rock star in the vane of Bowie. You get it

    I have heard one or two others compare GLB to Pearl Jam - but never anyone who has listened to GLB more than once / twice.
    I think the comment comes from recognising Phillips' deep voice, and the bands were around at same time.
    That's where comparisons end for me.. it doesn't recognise the range of Phillips' voice... no insult intended above poster, but I think its an uninformed observation.
    GLB had just what you say they should have had - a music all of their own.
