Todo was a one man Body Improvement Club in this episode. He knew he couldn’t do any major damage to Mahito but he shouldered the load until Itadori, the one who is able to, could get back into the fight.

Some context that was given by the commentator in the manga: After using a Black Flash, a Sorcerer gets a temporary buff and basically goes into flow state and can use cursed energy at a greater level. So Todo, Mahito, and Yuji basically got a temporary power boost. Anyone can do a Black Flash, it's all about technique, they even say "The sparks of black...do not choose who to bless"
I have a lot to say about this reaction but you hit the emotional side of it right on the nail... I really love Mahito's speech. Such a disgusting and heartless character comparing his mortal enemy to himself (especially after he hit such a high and declared himself a true curse) is just about the highest amount of respect you can expect from a character like Mahito... Even the "I will 'eventually' forget about you" is really telling in how much of an effect Yuji, Nanami, Todo, and Nobara especially really had on him. He views them as bugs on the stepping stone in the grand scheme of things and when he takes time to give them any sort of credit I think that that says a lot about what those characters meant to a character like Mahito, that Gege wrote to be an all powerful sociopathic child, would go out of his way to give credit to. Ultimately it sucks yeah, but there is a beauty in the madness that I don't think a lot of media Shonen especially fails to capture a lot of the times.

Mahito is easily one of my favourite antagonists in recent anime history, he is just so easy to hate and he does such a good job making Yuji miserable. Plus his VA literally never fails to give a phenomenal performance. Also, Todo's delusions turning him into One for All kills me every time I watch it.
Black flash isn't just a critical hit, it also allows curse energy users to enter flow state and utilize 120% of their potential. People are pissed of that the black flash did no damage, but it allowed Todo to catch up and also enter the flow state.
