Whatever you do, make sure that the materials you use are breathable. Dogs sweat through their paws, and should not wear boots for more than an hour and a half, two hours at most. Also a vibram sole provides optimum traction. Finally, if your dog has dewclaws and you intend to keep them, be mindful that the boots go above the dewclaws. Otherwise, those dewclaws can be rubbed raw. I hope DIY boots work for those who can make them. Personally, I would rather put out some money for the higher end boots because they will last much longer. Then again, my dog is a working dog and gets out more than most pet dogs anyway. Good luck.
