ive been playing my flute since middle school (took a 2 year break college) and picking it up now. so awesome i never knew about harmonics! I'm so happy there are so much more flute videos online now
@@DoctorFlute that's so sweet! Thank you so much. I've subscribed to your channel it's really opening up a lot of things I havent known before. It motivates me to play my flute more these days :). I think right now I want to play a tune on my flute without having to think of the notes or fingerings like how they do in jazz. I have to re-memorize my scales I'm sure
I really appreciate this lesson. I am self taught. I play jazz flute. My tone color is lacking in depth. I will add this to my practice routine. Thank you.
Hi David Cox, thanks for watching! This exercise will definitely help you develop that depth! Let me know if there is any video I can make to answer any other questions.
@@DoctorFlute I am a 70 year old guy who's finally getting around to studying music. I've played around with flute since 72 and always disliked my tone. I'm studying with jazzwire.net BTW- Do you know Orlando Valle's Music- aka Maraca. He's a classically trained jazz flutist.
I don't know him but I will be happy to check it out. I have a friend who retired and is now very happy pursuing jazz flute. I think it is very rewarding!
@@DoctorFlute Maraca is Cuban. In Cuba they give their musicians a classical training. The jazz and the rest they learn on the street. Both Valle and Hubert Laws are jazz players with classical training. I saw Maraca in Seattle with his twelve piece band... WOW ! I also recently saw Laws at the festival in Port Townsend Washington
@@DoctorFlute I started self-learning flute five months ago. I'm starting to learn to relax my embouchure and can feel the aperture differences and with each harmonic. Thank you!
Haha I had the same doubt! English is not my first language, and I believe the song's name is in French, so yeah, a little hard to get. I am so grateful for this little video, it's really helpful!!! 💖 Thanks!! 🌷
I am glad it will be helpful to you. Do you now Revele? If you don't know it and if it would be helpful I can make a video of Revele so you could hear it.
DoctorFlute I found several videos online about it from soldiers playing it or so, I think it is written "Reveille" , which means waking up :) so I suppose the notes are just harmonics of the same note? :)
Hi! No I don't think it does. My support does not change. It might push more or have more pressure but how it is done is not different. What are you thinking?
Wow... you're so good Dr flute ❤
Awe thanks!

Little by little will do it. Have fun and don't stress about what you used to know just enjoy the journey.
Great video Dr. M
Fantastic video, extremely clear explanation thank you for sharing.
Thank-you!
I used "Taps" also when practicing harmonics.
It works great!
Right!
Yes ma'am!!! Such a great exercise.
Hey, thanks!

Great exercise! WOW! I did it.
Fantastic! Do you sound better?

I am so glad! That open relaxed embouchure is definitely the only way to play. Good luck on your journey.
Great video! Very useful and easy to follow! What was the name again of the trumpet song? :)
Thanks! Revele is the trumpet piece. It is a great one to develop your harmonics.

DoctorFlute oh thanks! I googled the song, but if you want to do a video on it focusing on the harmonics usage of it, I would really appreciate it! 😊🌷

Apart from the lips, doesn't the support also need to change as we move higher?
