- Brian Mendoza stepped in on short notice to face Los Angeles-based Ukrainian Serhii Bohachuk less than two weeks ago, filling in for Sebastian Fundora who moved up to the main event against Tim Tszyu.
In retrospect, Mendoza might regret his decision to take that fight, as he ended up losing the WBC interim super welterweight title bout to Bohachuk over 12 rounds at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Bohachuk, known for his solid and systematic approach, kept the pressure on until the final bell, achieving a decision victory for the first time in 25 fights, improving his record to 24-1 (23 KOs).
Despite Mendoza's efforts, he now stands at 22-4 (16 KOs), while the victorious Bohachuk sets his sights on the winner of the Tszyu-Fundora headliner.
The match saw both fighters engaging aggressively from the second round onward. Mendoza's face began to show signs of wear as Bohachuk relentlessly pressed forward, effectively landing his right hand punches.
Despite moments where Mendoza connected with some notable shots, Bohachuk's consistent pressure and calculated attacks kept him in control, often trapping Mendoza in the corners and landing significant blows.
Mendoza attempted to rally in the later rounds, but Bohachuk remained composed and stuck to his game plan, ultimately securing the win with scores of 118-110 and 117-111 (twice).
Reflecting on the fight, Mendoza acknowledged his durability but expressed a desire to rely less on it in future bouts. Meanwhile, Bohachuk dedicated his victory to his fellow Ukrainians amidst their ongoing conflict with Russia, expressing solidarity and determination for their cause.

This was by far Bohachuks best fight, Mendoza no push over but this was probably his worst fight, I dont think he was ready for the last minute opponent switch.
