    1- Longevity and software support.
2- Raw power: battery life/charging speed,RAM,cameras, build quality.
3- design doesn't change as much these days so your expensive phone design won't be outdated very soon.
These 3 reasons are enough for me.

I was using mid-range phones for years but this time splurged on an S24 Ultra. It is already worth it for me for the memories, I am continuously the photographer of everyone and filmed my uncle's wedding entirely on my phone, with its great zoom and ultrawide camera. He is very happy with it.

So if you were to rate the expensive phone to the cheap phones. From a 1-10, with 10 being it'd absolutely flawless. What would you rate your cheap phone experience and your expensive phone?

    • @Oozy9Millimeetah
      @Oozy9Millimeetah Месяц назад +3

@Dave.... the age cap makes comparison kinda useless, but I'd give even the cheap phones 7 they all work well, and you get things done. I would have been totally fine with a Samsung A55, but I just wanted to know what having a premium phone is like. Since subjectively the s24 ultra is the best I have ever had, it's a 10.

I have had 5 phone anr they all been budget or midrange phones UNTIL now. I now have the Samsung Galaxy s24 plus. Up until now I never paid more than $400. And honestly most were fine for me. But I always dreamed of having a Galaxy phone and now I have, yeah, it's great. It really is a more advanced phone with great display and performance. And I know I can easily keep it 5 years and it will probably still be as good considering many people still have their older Galaxy phones.
I never cared about 'showing off' my phone since most people have premium phones and here in America usually iphones. That said I really do love the look and feel of it. It basically looks like an iPhone too. Again not why I bought it but I do love that design.
But the reality is you're right, we just use our phones all the time. I'm typing this on my phone lol. So it's OK (if you can afford it obviously) to splurge for for something you know you're going to use constantly and rely on it all the time Most midrange phones are very reliable of course but it is nice to have something you know that can handle anything you throw at it (even if I don't throw that much at it lol).

The durability of a smartphone depends on the model. There have been notable failures, such as the iPhone 6 'bendgate.' Currently, major brands like Apple, Google, and Samsung seem to offer around 6-7 years of software support. However, the longevity of owning a smartphone is debatable. Modern smartphones are more fragile than older models, with glass exteriors that easily shatter upon impact. Internal hardware may also wear down over time. From personal experience, the longest I've owned a phone was five years. In the end, it simply wouldn't power on, and it wasn't due to the battery, as replacing it didn't resolve the issue.

I bought an iPhone 15 last year. If it doesn't break, it'll last me 8-10 years. That's because today's smartphones are good enough for *everything* that regular users do with their phones. Each new generation offers only incremental improvements that don't really alter the usability of older devices.
My CA$1,129 iPhone 15 amortized over 8 years is a wonderfully low CA$141 per year, or CA$12 per month. That's really easy on my pocketbook.

    My take would be like
    Get a $300 - $400 phone
Generally that would last for 4 years if you want it to and even more if you use it carefully
And after 4 to 5 years u can get another $400 phone and use it for another 5 years
This way you won't miss the lastest tech and features and would save alot
This way is for those whose financial condition is moderate ( not super rich and not broke )
And there is also another way actually ,
Get 24U / 15 pro max cost around $1200-$1300 something
    Use that phone for atleast
    5-7 years ( i would )
But you would miss on lastest tech and features but not much though cause flagship are ahead of it's time
But if you are buying a flagship make sure you uses its full potential before grabbing another one that would help you to not go broke for a phone
    Long story short
Get a cheap phone use it for 4 years ( chances are High that it won't Last but your luck it could )
Or get top of line flashing and use it till it goes dead

Expensive yes, but you still get a case and fast charging brick and cable.
I don't care about the camera and OnePlus knows it.

I've literally bought a new phone every single year. Going as far back to when T-mobile Sidekicks were a thing. Even during the earlier years, there was times where I had two phones. Mainly because texting and calling was different back then lol.
The thing is thru out all those years, I never spent money on a very expensive phone ever. I've had Blackberries, Sidekicks, but most of my phones after that were cheap androids. In the $150-$300 price range.
Its amazing to see how far technology has come. Because the same price I was spending all these years, I can actually get a great phone for the $200-$300 that will last a couple years. Due to them getting much better and longer updates. I do however one day hope to experience, a true top of the line flagship phone. Just to see if it really is everything it's made up to be.

I didn’t even purchase a phone until my current phone that’s an iPhone 8 Plus (128 GB) and back in July 2020 I upgraded from a 32 GB iPhone 6. Before my current phone I had phones given to me as Christmas presents the majority of the time except for a hand-me-down iPhone 4 from my dad that was basically on its last legs. I felt like even back then I had a pretty big upgrade from the battery life to the screen size and storage. With the phone and Otterbox case combined I purchased it for $330 which I saved some money on it due to having a Walmart employee discount, saved around $35.
Now I’m doing something I’ve never done before as I’m buying an iPhone 15 and I know with how much more advanced it is in comparison to the 8 Plus (73% battery health) it’s going to be worth the price I’m paying for it. I’ll be paying around $950 after taxes including a 2-year protection plan from Walmart (I have Straight Talk) and saving roughly $30 from Walmart Cash I have as well. I wouldn’t have gone for this massive of paying for this phone if I didn’t feel like the level of upgrades weren’t worth it.

Video idea: Can you tell us more about what makes a good smartphone camera? to be more specific: How much of a difference does the amount of Megapixel make? On paper the difference between 12 and 48 Megapixel (iPhone camera changes) should be enormous, but I guess today the computing behind the images is more important. But thats not my area of expertise, so I would like your input as a photographer/video maker :)

    • @peterparker2068
      @peterparker2068 Месяц назад +1

Whether you want pictures to simply look good or you're a professional who prefers editing raw photos affects your choice. For the average user, megapixels are just statistics used for marketing. In the US, the leading smartphones for photography are from Apple, Samsung, and Google. To see an in-depth comparison of smartphone photo quality, one can refer to DxOMark tests. In general, modern smartphones rely on both hardware and software to produce high-quality images. The Pixel line, for instance, received acclaim for its excellent photo quality upon debut, despite the Pixel 1-3 models having only a single 12 MP camera, while competitors offered two or more.

In 2 weeks or so I will publish a video where I compare the iPhone 13 and the 15Pro in terms of video quality. But I can also make a video comparing photo quality in the future.
Regarding resolution: Megapixels are not really important imo. I worked professionally (shooting interiors for hotels) with 16mp until recently. For 99% of users 12mp is plenty, especially when the images will stay on the phone.
For my professional work I now use a camera with 40mp and the only real benefit I see is being able to crop (eg. reframe) your image more aggressively and thus gaining flexibility.

I always buy the cheapest iPhone Pro model in the most common color, usually black. I sell it after a year and buy a new one. I've been doing this for years, and it usually costs me about 200€ per year. In total, I've spent around 1000€ on Ipones, but I've always had the latest model. It takes some effort to sell the phone for a good price, but I only do it once a year. I always use a case and screen protector from day one, so I've never had problems selling the phone in perfect condition. Just recently sold my 15 pro max for 1050€ and brought the new one but this time it was rather disappointing. I want to try Android in the future, but since those phones lose value quickly, it's not worth it for me.

Recently i bought a S24 FE. Its brand new!
In my opinion you get a good deal with Flagship Phones, that are a year old OR Midrange Phones like the A50 from Samsung, or the FE that i bought.
It might not be the best deal always but certainly you are not doing a lot wrong.
At the moment here in Asia, a Samsung S24 Ultra is about 1500$, the S24+ was about 1200$ and the S24 around 1000$.

Depending on the market, flagships have higher volumes and are therefore sold and bought at competitive prices. Compared to mid-range phones, which might have a smaller market, the price of mid-range phones doesn't fluctuate as much because only a subset of people are looking to buy these smartphones. On the flip side, flagships also have better promotional offers, whereas mid-range phones might be harder to find. Also, you could get better value when you buy a refurbished or used flagship.

Diminishing returns really, I think that all the "Ultra", "Pro" phones (the current generation, buying a refurbed that is one or two years old can have merits) don't offer that much more functionality compared to like 500€ - 700€ phones. Sure they have more Zoom capabilities, maybe even better main-cameras but I don't think you need the best of the best as a normal person. You get like 80% of the experience and pay a steep premium for the other 20%
You could save the money and idk go on vacation with it, but sure if you have a lot of disposable income buying the most expensive phone is a given.

Everyone has different needs. But if you use your phone for basic tasks like social media, texting etc. I absolutely agree with you --> ruclips.net/video/o6Eo9Rpad9A/видео.html

i guess a mid range phone will be enough for 90% of people something with the level of an iphone 13 or something or a samsung a34/35 too
