What are some other things to look out for when buying a used van?

So if it’s a diesel van you can place a dollar or piece of paper over the oil filler cap. What your looking for is excessive air coming out of the oil filler cap that usually indicates big problems. It’s called a blowby test some times you can take off the oil cap and rest it on top of the oil filler and it get blown off by the engine. Hope that helps.

Ohhhhh, oil filler not filter.... my interpretation was off. Thanks.

Looks like it was an old ‘Booze Bus’ (here in Australia)! *The van the Police take you into (on the side of the road) if you blew over the legal alcohol limit into a breathalyser, while driving 😉🇦🇺

If you can afford it, I believe it is BEST to buy a GOOD CONDITION low mileage older Class B -RV of a company you KNOW builds GOOD RVS and upgrade it to your needs. I would suggest looking into good used Pleasure ways, a Canadian Well Built RV line.

That’s was insurance inspector vehicle … like example when you crash your car they come in that can to see how much will cost to fix your car … also that oil leak is right in oil pan and that oil pan looks like it’s missing couple of bolt (so odd)

The dual rear axle is a five ton gross weight, and the single rear axel is 3.5 ton gross weight. Here in the UK, you can not drive a 5 ton with a regular car license. But you can with the 3.5 ton

Interesting, thank you. USA is slightly different, likely due to lower population density. Your regular license allows you to drive vehicles up to 13 tons, but you still need to register with Department of Transportation for commercial cargo vehicles over 5 tons.
If it’s not hauling cargo for commerce, then you can legally drive up to 13 tons without registering - but you could still get pulled into an inspection station, where they’d look for commercial cargo and issue stiff penalties if they found any.

I'm newly searching now so great info but I'm confused on the placing paper on OIL FILTER??? Wouldn't that be under engine?

The oil filler cap is usually a breather aswell. He means to put a peice of paper above it, which could indicate overpressurisation of the crankcase due to worn piston rings.
