Your videos are always educational. Wondering how these could get into schools. Children always write essays about the famous people of the Civil War. This individual would be a good topic for someone to write about - someone unknown who may or may not have had an impact on the Civil War.

You can not look at the 1860’s through 2024 eyes just as no one could look at the 1760’s with 1860’s eyes. History is just that, his story, his truth, his TIME.

I love Civil War history but Mr. Vance is a piece of work the south could’ve done without.
He was no worse than the planters.

Wow some people really were horrifically horrible ..he ranked high in a state and still acted like that ? Sad. I am glad those awful days are over and that we can improve each other's lives , not harm them

That's sad that he had those views. Too bad he had such contempt like that. Klu Klux Klan ties are pretty bad.

We need to hear the ugly and unpleasant parts of history. In doing so, hopefully we will learn from it and not repeat it. Thank you for sharing the unvarnished history.

Unfortunately, the man's views were not unusual for the time period. Thankfully, we've managed to move past it and those who still think that way have (mostly) the good sense to keep it to themselves. I think it'll still be another century before racism and prejudice disappear completely. Old ways die hard. History has a funny way of deciding for itself who is remembered and who isn't. Guess Governor Vance didn't make the cut.
