Your already great tutorials are getting even better. I use your videos to teach me how to paint, not just entertain me. When I follow along I am pausing and rewatching a lot. The high information density is a strength of your videos, I am learning so much. The best thing for my airbrushing has been to pick up the pencil and practice balancing my values ( I've been drawing lots of eyes ) I'm very grateful for your teaching. Thank you.
So happy to hear that! What a nice comment too. Thank you. And yes- Draw, Draw, Draw!!! It is everything in painting. Personally, I enjoy using a pencil more than an airbrush and always have.
Man I have been a airbrush artist for over ten years. I have very much enjoyed watching your videos. I have learned so much from your art expertise. Thanks for putting out this type of information. I am going to be doing my first portrait.
I'm so glad to hear that- thanks! When working on your first portrait just remember not to panic when mistakes come up or something doesn't go the way you hoped. You'll learn a tremendous amount as you paint more and more portraits. They are challenging, but so rewarding to paint. You got this! wishing you all the best of luck and success.
This is the most helpful airbrush tutorial I’ve ever found. I very specifically went “man I wonder if I can paint like Caravaggio with an airbrush” and the algorithm read my mind. Thanks man!
Excellent video as always! I really appreciate your talent, ability and overall knowledge of art. Can you please tell me what type of surface you were painting on? Was it super smooth or did it have a slight texture/tooth? Thank you. Keep up the great work. I thoroughly enjoy your videos/technique.
Thanks! It is 15oz cotton duck canvas that I prepared myself. It's basically as smooth as hot pressed paper, very subtle tooth. I have 2 videos on how I prepare it. Check them out!
Great video Bud! As always..what you think about the takumi. Is it worth high price. How would you compare this one with the Cm sb old version and the ps 771 creos? Thanks keep it up
Thanks man. It's been really great! to be honest it is nearly the same as the cm-sb and the ps-771. The closer trigger is nice and it's easier to clean but for $500 it's not a big step forward. Excellent airbrush and worth the price, but it's no game changer.
Yes, of course! 4011 or 4012 will give you a stronger paint film too. But distilled water sprays better, has no shelf life, is easier to erase, and doesn't add chemicals into the air. I'd just stick with distilled water.
Handsofrhythm is right. Your videos keep getting better and better. I'm intrigued by your choice of subject though, and not just because Caravaggio was an amazing and popular artist. You've spoken about this painting in other videos. I'm curious why you selected it but God Bless You for the Christian theme. Anything religious is becoming increasingly unpopular these days and I applaud your choice of subject. I'd ask if you were Catholic but that is perhaps getting way too personal. Just reading a bit on Wikipedia about Caravaggio's life I learned he was an angry and violent man. His move to Naples was due to a death sentence he received after a brawl. Why are artists such troubled souls? Sounds like me when I was younger, although I'd hardly call myself an artist; I used coloring books to learn how to airbrush because I can't draw. I'm often plagued by guilt because of the 2nd Commandment. I once asked a priest if painting was a good thing. He suggested I ask myself one question before any activity, is it for my own pride and glory, or His? I'm glad you chose His.
This isn't about your video, which is excellent as always, but about the original painting. Glasses weren't invented until the 13th century so how could the subject be wearing a pair? Just an observation that I found interesting.

Love it. 400 years from now someone will be commissioned to replicate YOUR work as they speak of the old airbrush masters.
haha! plenty of others out there that are way better than I am.
I love your knowledge of the old masters.

You'll get noses down in no time. They become much easier in time. Hands are always a pain.

@@theartworkshop thanks brother nice to know 👍🏽
Could you use the Created 4011 reducer instead of the distilled water? Maybe less dops since it says to use only 10%. Love your videos! Thanks!

Truth be told, I'm just interested in how an artist tries answer the age old question of what it is to be a human being.

Great question! I know nothing about the history of glasses, but this painting was from the early 17th century so a few hundred years after the 13th.
