There seems to be a huge misconception that ARMY magically come across BTS on social media and becomes fans of them for their personalities and then music. I listened to their music on and off for a month, without knowing, their names, history, or what they looked like. Only after I noticed myself listening to Spring Day on a repeated loop while driving for a week straight, did I get curious enough to learn more about them. After becoming an Army, I got a Twitter account to keep up with them. I came to SNS for BTS because I genuinely loved all of their music (the entire discography!).

I am so confused By this video and also by the Kmedia it's like they can't let BTS have anything, It's almost like they would rather any other kpop group be at the top other than BTS. It's so frustrating for us fans because It seems like BTS has to perform freakin miracles when it comes to album sales and the charts In order to finally get the recognition they've long deserved, but let some other group do some random shit and they're front page news. Granted blackpink deserve all the accolades they're getting for YT views and BB charts Of course that's gonna make news but why do kmedia/you need a BTS Comparison If you wanna get real BTS started breaking YT records 2yrs ago, & since 2015 have had 5 albums on BB200( One of which was a Japanese album) and 2 songs on BB100. I'm curious did Kmedia have the same hype/energy for BTS back then as they do now for BP Who's doing what BTS did 3 years ago, were you making comparison videos of BTS to other popular groups back in 2016 when they were breaking YT records. And even when they do recognize BTS achievements all they can say is that is due to SNS following But now they add the kicker BP success is due to "mysticism that focuses more on music" (I literally had to replace that part like 5 times ) So BTS help write, compose & produce the majority of their albums & what are they focusing on...Oh yeah forgot Social media. The fact is most of people following BTS on social media is following them because of their MUSIC, And if any one bothered to ask an actual ARMY Instead of just coming up with the random conclusions they would know this. AR_TRINI I think social media have a good impact for all kpop when It comes to international achievements, so i don't think is just because of music. Yes, you become a fan because you like the music, that's the basic, the thing is how you got there? I met kpop through RUclips, a social media plataform. And i think both blackpink and BTS are popular internationally because people get to know them through sns.
I totally agree that social media plays a part in artists achievements and not just in Kpop most artist utilize social media in some capacity, But it just seems like most of time because the media can't figure out why this korean boy group from a small company has such a massive International following it must just all boil down to social media, and very few focus on the huge role that BTS music and lyricism plays in their success, And that's what frustrates most BTS fans. And yes I also came across Kpop on YT And there are a few other groups that I like but BTS is the only kpop artist YT Channel I subscribed to And the only reason why I'm even on Twitter. I don't get why medias talk only about BTS using SNS while literally all other idols have SNS and most of them have THEIR OWN INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNTS. All of them have Fan Cafe, Facebook, Twitter, Weibo and Instagram but they talk only about BTS while the only SNS they use is twitter and FC and sometimes weibo, they don't even have internatinal FC like others. They always mention ''BTS using SNS'' but all idols do the same why mentioning only BTS? The hypocrisy jumped out! And imagine if they do like western artist who ASK their fans to stream...

I would have never use tweeter or ig if it was not for BTS. For me it's the other way round social media didn't introduce BTS to me but it was BTS that urge me use tweeter ig or vlive coz I want to know them better. I came to know about BTS in 2015 but was not a fan back then I like another group. Young Forever was the one song that made me jump on to BTS wagon and have been loving them since then. So to say that their success is through aggressive use of social media is a little offensive and they should not have drag BTS into everything. Exactly I’ve been listening to BTS since debut and it’s just recently that I made twt acc. Been supporting them because of their music and not because of popularity. I’ve been with them during the time where they weren’t popular, didn’t win music shows and even had less exposure during year end awards show. That didn’t matter to me cuz I support them because of their music and I’ll always stays

YG has some serious steel balls to say that bp is known for their hq music while bts is only known because of sns. after all bp have 4 insta accounts, their own web variety and appear on many variety shows especially the most popular ones while bts don't. True, sns does help bts (like other artists) reach more people however, it is not responsible for them being able to sell out world tour after world tour nor get good reviews from music critics. That's where their outstanding, relatable and self-produced music is effective.

Lol it's so funny how they're breaking down BP's songs "to show why" their success is more impressive. You guys, I'm Korean and I completely understand this video content. It's totally biased and they are TEAM YG all the way. No offense to BP because they are great at performing, but they are a long ways from achieving respect at BTS's level. This is my opinion. Yes, BTS has the best connection with their fans, but they are so much more than that. Their music speaks for itself and let's be honest.... They are true artists.

What I was saying is stating the obvious... That the news segment was biased and that is my opinion.😁 And all groups work very very hard to train, which goes without saying. I just felt that the segment was diminishing BTS' accolades by focusing on their social media activity and not at all mentioning their music playing a key part in their ultimate success. I'm not talking about the individual accounts that they've created after the comeback, but the group one. I like blackpink, believe me, but saying that they've reached the international success just because of their music doesn't seems right. Social media has an important role for all kpop not only for BTS, if you're going to talk about international achievements.
People approach kpop in different ways, but for the most part it's through sns. The thing is people follow BTS because they love their music, regardless of how they got there in the first place. I'm an ARMY, but i don't even have a twitter account, where ARMY's are the most active. That doesn't mean i don't love them as much, i'm just not interested in having one, but i'll still support them.

honestly I’m not a fan of bp but I can see how people like their music. It’s bombastic and catchy. They’re clearly talented. I just don’t get how people who like both groups compare them. They couldn’t be more different in my eyes. Like bts is actually involved in their music outcome and most of their lyrics have actual depth. Just cuz they both have good rappers(mind you bts writes their own bars) doesn’t make them similar. It also took bts a long ass time to achieve success. It’s a different origin story. The news told the truth no matter what people want to say BTS and BLACKPINK had the biggest [and most anticipated] comebacks this year. charting on billboard is because of american fans, and youtube views though. American fans are used to their own artists only releasing music in one or two years, so blackpink being gone for this long may be a long time in the kpop world but it isn't in the american pop scene. I am ashamed to say I encountered an Army like that once. Cătălina Ștefan having a lot of albums doesn't necessarily make an artist known. There are a lot of underrated artists that have lots of albums. BP only has 9 songs but all of them are well received by their fans and the gp of s.korea which is why they are known because of their music.

WHAT REALLY MADE ME FEEL MAD is that people says BTS success due to SNS? SORRY BUT NO! Every group is known overseas because of SNS, imagine if it wasn't for youtube, twitter, etc. Non-korean fans wouldn't now about BTS, BLACKPINK, EXO etc! PEOPLE FOLLOW BTS FIRST: MUSIC & LYRICS, SECOND: THEY DO THEIR OWN MUSIC, THRID: ARTISTRY, PERSONALITIES. THAT'S WHY WE LOVE THEM.
FOR BLACKPINK, I am not a fan but I can say (because this happened to me when they debuted) people liked at first that their concept is different as other girl groups, their sound is totally YG, (if you understand what I mean) it's not cute concept. Second, YG knew how to promote well the girls in social media, I guess people still remember those videos on youtube of Lisa dancing way before their debut. Another thing they are all visuals, something that YG didn't focus before. I'm not saying their music is bad but you gotta admit their lyrics are not that different from other girl group's lyrics.

Okay, in short. Bts became popular because of music too. 😂. You just made it longer but I would agree. But I think the reporters are pointing out that BTS is more attached to armys and is more active on social medias that's why people came to see that they are sweet, kind and loving boys which made them popular. Say for example a kpop song since it not our first language you rely on the beat, the production and other factors if it is good then people will definitely dig it Psy's song is a prime example. The meaning of the song has always been secondary for a song that is not your first language first impression is very important. Therefore it is how a song made an impact to you. It is not just the brilliantness of the lyrics but its entirety, the melody, the beat the artist the production the use of words in it the catchyness the impact it had on people listening to it. Bp lyrics might be the same with other ggs but the impact they had, the music they had it all made numbers of achievement mainly because the song is good. Therefore I believe BP songs are one of the main reason why they're popular now. I even like "Dope" because of its beat like it was really a banger.

BTS did break thought US market (aka international for korean I guess) because their albums are at target, walmart, amazon and so on...Her on amazon was linked a week before the comeback, however, with only 4 days of tracking at bb charts, dna were #87 to #65 (if I'm wrong correct me)...Meaning there was/is a demand aka a us fanbase who brough 100k pure sales for tear while BP was 7k sales...Also their songs and albums chart more than a week and they have radio play despite being on korean...
So I don't understand how they can be compared regarding success if BP is starting to gain a korean fanbase and then a international one...

I can understand why so many Armys are offending about this "sns thing". So let me just give my own experience, and maybe you'll understand why they are so triggered by that. Before that let me just say that I am currently both an army and a fan of Blackpink.
I'm the living proof that I became an Army just because of their music and messages, and really not sns (I just checked out a music video one day and certainly wasn't on their vlive or twitter lol). I knew them for a long time, but I've never wanted to really look at what they do because I wasn't really into kpop (I had this prejudice that kpop sucks because of my country. I was like I can enjoy it on youtube sometimes but not in front of people and definitely not gonna download it on my phone. I feel so sorry for my old self now 😫😫😫..). But one day I was like oh okay let's give this groupe BTS a try to understand why them and not other groups appeal to sooo many people.
And then as every Army knows and RM even said during a speech: it's the whole package. Their amazing dance that leaves you speechless, voices, raps, personalities, songs, and THEN the lyrics (because obviously, I need to understand), and that's when you understand it's THE LYRICS that appeal, you san relate and you feel listened. They are so powerful. And I'm pretty sure the translations are not even making them justice. And that's what Armys are trying to exlain to others but nobody wants to understand.
I truly can't believe people really think that millions of people are following them for their LOOKS HAHAHA. Like to be honest, at first, I couldn't even recognize them and I didn't really find them attractive.. (we have different beauty standard in my country). Well, it's just once you're into them, into this whole package that you're gonna find them handsome and everything (now I can't believe I didn't find them attractive lol). AND after that, when I realized I was really commited to what they were doing (Suga explained really well the whole process of becoming an Army lol), I CREATED a twitter account to follow what they were doing. And it's true they feed us well, compared to Blackpink that's TOTALLY true. (I like this group too even if their lyrics are not really deep, I'm just a simple fan and really find them adoooorable.). BUT STILL, I certainly didn't become part of this fandom because they were "active on sns". That's not true. We are REALLY WEEL FED I repeat it but that's not WHY we are into them. lol.
Still to this day I can't believe I'm part of a fandom, that's so far for my culture but yeah I'm in. Normally just like for blackpink I'm a simple fan of a lot of artists (koreans or not obviously). But BTS really did something to me I guess with their whole package. 😂 And I believe a lot of people joined fandoms for the whole package kpop has. But as everyone wanna know "okay but why does BTS is that huge, a lot of kpop groups have this whole package". It's sincerely because of their message that appeal SO MANY different people, that not a lot of kpop groups have (and so can't appeal to so many different people from so many different culture and countries to be honest). That's sincerely that's simple. 🤗 And I sincerely hope a lot of kpop groups are gonna grow like that too because I just wish that one day people would stop looking down on kpop because of their "manufactured songs", like I was doing before.. Because it's easy to enjoy maufactured songs, but to become part of a fandom when kpop is not you thing at first, you certainly not gonna be part of it, and I'm talking with a total honesty and my own experience.

Even if you don't like BTS/PSY you have to admit that BTS and PSY paved the way for Kpop not just internationally but in western countries. Blackpink's songs are all hits and the public loves their lyrics (AIIYL, Whistle, PWF, D4) even when their lyrics are cute they still taking command, the pronunciation is sometimes “YG” style, the beginning of PWF catchy lyrics, D4 choreo, etc. Blackpink's producer Teddy is super talented and the girls execute the songs really well and perform at festivals and sing live all the time. They're super gorgeous so the public likes to follow their activities (instagram, modelling, music videos) That’s why they get a lot of likes and views the public are genuinely curious as opposed to it just being Blinks watching their stuff. This is all relevant information because they’re a KOREAN GIRL GROUP.
Next point: They're getting international attention but they're super humble about it. They didnt even expect to chart on BB100 for a week but they did that’s impressive. For some reason, they’re being attacked by immature ppl who don’t understand how the music industry works for things their label have full control of. The composition of their music and lyrics is something done by the label but the girls treasure their music like its their babies since they’ve been working on them for so long. They’re getting hate by certain fandoms for not being as “deep” as other pop groups but since when was that a factor in being a pop group? It also really doesn’t make you a more superior artist just because you release more music or sell more albums than blackpink. With groups that have these massive following, there bound to be fans who *will not* understand the message of the contents.
I hope you'll offer more information regarding the content you upload and (unfortunately it's necessary) provide a statement *in the video itself* that you're objective towards the groups and that you do not intend these comparisons yourself.
I feel sad to say this but, in this time of age: with a *diverse* amount of fans these kind of things are necessary to maintain the *peace* in the kpop community.
Please don't take this the wrong way and consider this as constructive criticism.

I find it so offensive to say BTS‘s popularity is due to sns which is ironic since their fanbase raves about their musicality more than anything. I also find it odd to say Bp focus on music more than BTS, as if Bp didn’t have whole reality show while they were on hiatus from doing comebacks.
This news segment is biased and like most media conglomerates in Korea have ties with Big 3 companies (YG in this case). This constant comparing that the k-media likes to do with BTS and Bp (mainly Naver who owns part of YG btw) is so obvious and shameless. Especially when both groups are nothing alike.
How can someone compare a group that writes and produces a lot (if not almost all) of their songs themselves and have really deep lyrics to another group that doesn’t! I enjoy bp for their catchy songs but that’s it

BTS doesnt need any positive news. Even a straight article stating simply ‘facts’ of what they have achieved is enough. They are already the standard. Whereas BP is a relatively new group that is gaining popularity, thus I’m just wishing more good things would happen to them in the future. that was fascinating, actually! this is the kind of content I look for. I feel like most channels just focus on the "wow factor" of Kpop and don't really show elements that help us know more about the industry, the groups themselves what's going on in Korea... BTS and Blackpink are very successful in two different ways, there is no comparison to be made, I personally strongly support both. Like one reporter said, their contents are the most competitive out there at the moment, and at the end of the day that's the key to it all!
