- How to replace a battery in a Yamaha DTXplorer Drum Machine. No need to send to an authorised Yamaha dealer. Fairly easy DIY job using a CR2032 battery that costs about £3 or £4. Takes about 15-20 minutes. Need a small cable tie to replace one you will cut (this avoids removing spade connectors from a switch as this can snap easily - my suggestion is safer!)
Thanks for a very useful video!
Just a few points that might help others wanting to attempt this.
The first part, to remove the plastic mounting tube, is unnecessary as it can stay attached to the metal bottom plate.
The small cable tie is easily snipped off with nail clippers.
When switching back on after battery replacement I got an error message. I turned it off for a few minutes then back on and voila...all good!
Thanks again!!!
Best drum ever. 15 years and still kicking ass. I never changed the battery since it stopped working like 8 years ago LOL. Tomorrow I'll do it
Thanks you a lot. My drum started to acting funny, I start searching for a solution and I got your video, I was very helpful, so today I decided to replace the battery, now my drum is working good again.
Did it mess up with your Aux in? I think mine is.
Dude you are a life saver, I was ready to scrap my unit and decided to search for a fix first....thanks a million.
Many thanks for this video. My local Yamaha-approved location wanted 50 bucks to replace the battery!
May 2022. I finally decided to give your method a try. It worked like a charm. Thank you!!! No more data error message on display screen.
Thanks man!. Wish I'd done this years ago... dead easy and dead quick (I wish it had taken longer, as I felt like an electronic engineering superdude whilst I was doing it). The hardest part was getting the new battery out of packaging. Cheers.
Changed the battery on my drum module earlier. Working WAY better now. Thanks!
Excellent video! Just bought a used kit and came up with the error message straight away. Watch the video, grabbed a new battery and the tools, finished job in about 10 minutes. Thanks heaps for the tutorial!
Thanks- excellent video that would have cost me money if I hadn't done it myself- dead easy with these directions, but would have been daunting without.
To some people who've been asking what happens if you don't change the battery- you lose all of your user kits to start with and then in my case the whole kit died- alls good since I changed the battery though
Thanks, saved me time and money. An asset to society!!
Thanks Dr. Bob! Got the battery info I need from your video. No problems at all. Everything came apart and then went back together smoothly. Your video was super easy to follow. Very happy that my DTXplorer drum brain is now fixed!!!
Thanks bro ; this video just saved me allot of money or just throwing my DTXplorer away from Yamaha in the freakin garbage. The battery was giving out completely. It pisses me off that Yamaha doesn't give a crap for any product they produce past 5 years. Don't expect any help from them for crap they made. Doesn't show any respect for their own products . whoever runs it now is running it into the ground. I'll never buy yamaha again. Thanks to guys like you is how they stay in any kind of business. i'll never buy Yamaha Ever again.
Thank you! I love my DTXplorer and it's been going hard for many years. Glad to have found a solution to my errors on start-up! Cheers for sharing. -J
Thank you doctor what a brilliant video!!! I've been meaning to do this for a year and now with our family under Covid isolation finally got around to it. The little white piece with the wires wasn't coming off easily for me but I was still able to squeeze my fingers in and change the battery without disconnecting any wires. Also I didn't replace the plastic tie but seems to work fine for now. Shameful that Yamaha would make it so difficult to replace that battery! Good thing we have you doctor.
Thanks very much, successfully changed my battery thanks to your clear explanation
Thanks mate. Bought a second hand unit, and feared the worst until I saw this video! Cheers!
Thank you for this. Just successfully changed my battery. I am usually completely useless at this sort of electrical DIY but it worked a treat.
THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU SAVE ME TIME , FRUSTRATION & MONEY, THANK YOU!!!
Thank you very much for this video! Very nicely explained and organized. I have replaced many of these types of batteries but every device has quirks about how the components are installed/attached - this clarifies everything. Cheers!
Brilliant thanks for the vid - after 9 years it still keeps on helping! - cheers
You rock...It would have been next to impossible for me without your help....your Video a gift that keeps giving year after year....
Thank you so so much for showing us how to replace it.
Thank you so much. I didnt even have to take the wires off. My hand fit just enough to reach the battery.
Same. But maybe a big dude with big hands might have had trouble.
Thanks! Just followed your instructions and it was all done in 20 minutes. No more error message or lack of user kit saves.
Great vid- my DTXplorer doesn't save customized kits anymore..so this was a blast!
Thank you. Took me 11 minutes and 2.99$ for the battery to do an "Authorised Yamaha Dealer" job........ Thanks a lot my friend...:)
Thanks so much for this upload saved me repair bill and within a short while all back working. Picking up on others comments which I kept to: no need to replace cable tie, great care in opening boards as there is a fine black wire from one board to another - did not separate my two boards to flat just to 90 degrees apart. Also I would also advise putting the new battery in immediately the other is removed without any delay. When switching back on you may still get an error message. Switch off wait 10 seconds and then switch on again if this occurs which cleared it on mine.
Thank you very much for this tutorial! Following your instructions I have successfully replaced the battery.
For information, I have used a smaller CR2016 battery instead of CR2032 and it also works.
Pure professionalism! Thank you for this video, with it the replacing was easy and safe. :)
Thanks so much 4 this video. My yamaha dtxplore kept saying internal battery low and I was going 2 take it 2 someone 2 work on it but I found ur video and followed ur instructions and it worked. Very very helpful.
Thanx heaps - made an apparently difficult task oh so simple. Took me all of 15 mins and the kit fired up straight away.
many thanks for this, excellent information. superb from start to finish. my sons kit needs this done, and thanks to you now i know how to do it.
Thanks so much. Thanks to you I was able to replace the battery and now it works like new
Still useful thanks. Just changed mine with no issues
Thanks a ton for this. Got mine up and running again. :) Here's to another 8 years!
Nice! Guitar Center scumbags wanted $60 to change battery. Bought a new one and fixed it myself for $4. Thank you!
Thanks a lot, saved me a small fortune.
Worked like a charm. 20 minutes tops. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for the info. This enabled me to swap the battery with ease. Great stuff!
Thanks very much, worked a treat. Just like to mention though, when putting it all back together I got the impression you would only need to remove the bottom 3 screws from the back.
For all who opened the DTXplorer 'like a book' and broke the tiny black wire from the board (at least me and you Bill Slayton ;-) but first of all, thanks for the vid. Take a new and longer wire if you tend to make the same mistakes.
Here's where both ends of the black wire go:
1. display board, backside: TL340, look from middle of middle flat cable up
2. battery board, backside TL47, look from middle of middle flat cable up
Both points have white squares drawn on the board.
No thanks,
Eus
Thankyou so much. Explained beautifully in a very straightforward manner. Looking forward to following your procedure.
Rod
thank you man! just saved my module! it's very old and has not been used forever, i set it up, next rehearsal things were gone.
thaaanks! :)
Thanks a lot! Just changed my battery! (and saved around $100 CAD from Yamaha Canada maintenance service, not to mention the few days waiting) :)
The only 8 dislikes are all from Yamaha service centers!
Thanks for your tutorial ! Let's go for more years of duty ! ^^
Many thanks for your Video. It was no problem changing the battery and saved time and Money. Danke schön from Germany !!
Thanks for the video. Replaced the battery in 10 minutes. Works great.
Legend, worked perfectly - thanks!
Thanks! You helped me out and it works perfectly again!
Thx. Saved me time prob money nd gave me a chance to show off to my friends.
very helpful, but not exactly easy. The most difficult part is the wire connection and pushing out the white plastic clip - and then getting it back in again. The end section closest to the wires pulls out of the white plastic socket and it's very stiff. It's difficult to know how much force to apply while holding the two circuit boards apart. Putting back the wires, the two grooves match up to the outer side of the socket. (The black tie has been cut and it's difficult to see how it could be replaced. It doesn't seem to matter.) A pair of tweezers works well for the white post pin.
Thank you so much. You made this process very easy!
Thank you!! Was very easy to replace, u saved me time and money, I appreciate it!
Just changed mine out and it was a piece of cake! Now off to trade my kit for a Gretsch Catalina maple!!!
great vid took me 5 mins !!!
Thx for this helpful video. All the best.
You're a star thanks a lot, simple really but at first the board wouldn't release from the white post, persevere because it will release, just get the right technique.
great video i managed to replace the battery before a demo video was on the internet was but of hit and miss.
Thank you for your post; it helped me a lot! Gracias!
Thaaaaaaaaaaaaank you very much! Great video, great instructions! Done exactly as per video and the Yamaha brain is like new again!
I just finish to do it and everything work well.Very good and useful vidéo! Thank you!
Worked perfectly! Thank you so much. Great job with the instructions.

Simple straight forward- thanks
Thankyou so much for this!
Many thanks!! Much appreciated
Thanks it was so easy to do
Thanks a ton!! Saved me a trip to Guitar Center!! :)
Thank you for your guidance, do ya think they could have hidden it any deeper!!!
Old school DIY - thanks.
thank you! you saved me £70!
Thank you!
Thanks for the informative video. $6 battery < whatever Yamaha charges.
This is a very good tutorial.
Unfortunately the resolution is a bit too low for watching the sensible parts such as fittings etc. Those small parts are hardly recognisable.
Thanks!! This is a very helpful video.
Thanks a lot 😊
Thanks its work
Greets from Germany ! :)
Thank you friend! Helped me a lot!! :)
Thank you
Thanks mate, just done it for mine.
Thanks mate, worked perfectly :)
Awesome thanks
This saved me some time, thank you! =)
Thanks ! Just what I needed.
Also I wouldn't worry too much about replacing the cable tie- nothing is going to get too disturbed inside the box.
Just two questions - why does my manual say the battery is soldered in, but your video shows a clip - were there two different phases of production (I haven't tried it yet so I don't know)?
And second question, aren't you worried about not using static eliminators when you are working on your device - your hands are all over the electronics - scary! ?
Thanks Gr8 video man , just some silly questains pls forgive .. , i done the same for my beringer 9024 , it went dead , it used to switch on b4 , n work with a boot message batt low , done the above as was advised by some one online ,now sadly dead, i was wondering , should i keep it ( Yamaha DTXplorer) be kept powered ON , as u do this procedure mentioned in this Vid ? , mentioned above any advice appreciated .. dont want a failure again .. thank a million .. sam .. P.S i also have a Batt low mesg on my Boss ( Roland ) DR Rhythm DR-770. thanks again
I dont get why the heck it needs a baterry? That doesnt make sense, thanks for the tip man
I would like to know why they thought they should build this module with a non-rechargeable battery and then bury it in the depths of the device. Like, if you refuse to use a battery that can charge when the module has ac power, why not put it in a spot where it can be replaced without taking the whole bloody module apart?
Thanks for the video though
What happens if we dont change the battery ??
Thank you for sharing this!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!
Thank you, great job
Perfect! Thank you
🥰👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 the best
The battery was changed fairly easy due to this video. The drum now says battery is low again and it has not even been a year
Should we replace another battery or ignore the message
Replace again, and make sure you use a fresh battery. Read the expiry date before buying and preferably buy from a known quality label than some random noname.
