YESSS!!! Rock on Erik🤘🙌🤘

"...God is the sweat running down his back......" Who writes like this? This woman is so far past brilliant it stuns me. We are so lucky we live in her era.
Argeed.
Dylan!!!
She is so talented and reminds me of Patti smith. 😘
It’s threat running down his spine!LISTEN! I have said jack till now.And you call yourself fans. And yes l did have bitch cereal for breakfast and l am menopausal so debate away lovelies xx
@@CristinaTomas-xd6dk Yes, she was influenced by Patti Smith
& they can both be as equally controversial. In fact she upset
many of the Roman Catholic community with some of the lyrics
when this song was released.
If they had their way with her she'd be saying 'hail Marys' till her voice
croaked!
god is the sweat running down his back, the water soaked her blonde hair black... absolute favourite lyric
PERFECT lyric, yes
@@MoiraRussell It sounds great but why d'you think it's perfect? What does it mean and what's the song about?
Fucking Genius!
@@blackmore4 it's about a fucking Perfect Day!
@@jaysonwilliams371 I'm pretty sure it's about a bit more than that. I think it's brilliant but I would like to know a bit more about the meaning. Either Harvey's telling of it or other people's personal interpretations.
Still gives me chills in 2023!!! This song, this album…… perfection
2024!
Yeah man, still groovin in ‘24
Polly is a National Treasure of Great Britain!
And a gift to the world!
Yes she is, and she is our also! Signed a very grateful American!
❤️❤️❤️💣💣
@@Nativecary I’m truly a thankful American as well. Polly truly has a God given talent that only gets better and better.
Her songs is an heritage of the humanity
pj harvey is marvellous at trip hop sounds on this record
I love late nineties stuff. With almost any band( and yes PJ is a band because I believe she is more than just one person..lol kidding, it is because of all the musicians..) the sound is... enhanced...with that bass turning like a smooth v8 in your BMW or something. Dark and perfect. Wild yet measured. And still with the same amount of spirit. With the turn of the millennia, however, they all seem to have lost focus somewhat(for better or for worse) and venture into new stuff. Thats all good, and in case of PJ Harvey, that brought us some lyrics that ought to be out there among Beauwolf and Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde and George Orwell (Lol, I don't know many poets). But still, that late nineties bass boost is delightful: DM, Garbage, Bjork, Massive Attack..all case in point.
That is correct for the first three albums, it was a band. By this time it was just her and guest musicians....
@@miguelteixeira4134 No, they were a band only for the first 2 albums. To Bring You My Love was PJ's first solo album.
Thanks for naming me, PJ Harvey.
You also share the name of the wondrously gorgeous Jane Seymour in "Somewhere in Time". I'm jealous :)
I should thank her for naming my daughter.. right?
You are officially cool, thank your parents for me. 👍
Your parents are cool!
Who are you, Elise?
I've just been getting into PJ's music more lately. The sheer flow of her artistic vision and inspiration never ceases to amaze me. She practically overflows with creativity.
I am bewildered because I "discovered" this music at bare minimum10 years ago. Still relevant and refreshing to listen to in my current life. simply brilliant. timeless
@@samantham7545 check out stories from the city stories from the sea
I am 11 years later after this was uploaded, but im in the same situation
Polly is like a poem with life and deep schemes, food for our ears. She is unique!
First time I heard this song in 98?
I thought she said "....its a perfect day, at least."
Listened to her stuff 30 years ago...still listening and just now really appreciating how amazing she is/was. SO ahead of her time musically. This is timeless.
Same
This song is more than 20 years but it remains so actual.
I was thinking this reminds me of 90s music and the video looks familiar. It's been a long time since I've heard this.
25 years as of Thursday!
My older sister is called Elisa, which in the English language is equal to "Elise".
I love Polly's entire musical repertoire❤️
named my daughter Elise.. it is a pretty name
Another great song by PJ. I love this style she puts out as well as her powerful screaming (To Bring You My Love)...the power her lyrics and voice bring to her music is chilling!
I was 14 when I first heard this masterpiece. Now I'm almost 40 and the song still feels as magical as ever.
Pure art from a real artist!
amen
It's now around 4:30am and every single song is better than the next! They're all fantastic! She is fantastic!
This is my favorite Pj's song so far! So full of energy... I'm just starting to know her art
A short song that conveys such a huge amount of depth and emotion with the little time it has. So damn good.
It sounds quite different from the album version, doesn't it?

I bought the CD of "Is this Desire?" the day it came out in late September 1998. I must have played it a 100 times over the next year, it's an amazing album. A more than worthy follow-up to "To Bring You My Love", which I must have played 200 times over the preceding 3 years.
I’m a huge PJ Harvey friend I have played every album over 100 times I would bet, but is this desire? was One of my albums of 2020 for some reason it came back to me and was on heavy heavy rotation. I probably did listened to it Close to twice a week on average. But I listen to a lot of music.
Dance Hall at Louse Point (1996) was just as great though :) Collaboration with John Parish but to me it's as PJH as can be, in and out! I guess by that time their vision and concept were already very similar, having played together such a long time.
Shoulda been twice as long.
I remember when I was a kid in the late 90's and 97-98 had some proper bangers, Is This Desire was class, Massive Attack's Mezinine, U2's Pop, Depeche Mode album which I cannot recall for the life of me, had 'Barrel of a Gun' and 'No Good', Sneaker Pimps Becoming X, the Prodigy's Fat of the Land.....it was an epic time to be around then, music was experimental, now it's corporate and safe, most artists still going have gone safe now except for Miss Harvey and they all suffer musically, say what you want about U2 (I can't stand their new or pre 90's work) but in the 1990's U2 were class and they were musically brave, now? Corporate and safe.
I dont understand why she has so few subscribers?!? She is the most magnificent woman, singer, writer and talent ever! I just love her💖
Because she’s above the average person.
Shes not commercial enough
@@bigd5080 She is so above, I would love to have her confidence in the strength of being a woman
it is a perfect day when I hear PJ
He got lucky, got lucky one time
Hitting with the girl in room 509
She turned her back on him facing the frame
Said, "Listen Joe, don't you come here again"
White sun scattered all over the sea
Could think of nothing but her name "Elise"
God is the sweat running down his back
The water soaked her blonde hair black
Its a perfect day Elise
He got burned by the sun
His face so pale and his hands so worn
Let himself in room 509
Said a prayer, and cried
It's a perfect day, Elise
He got burned by the sun
He's a lucky man
His face so pale and his hands so worn
And the sky...
Let himself in room 509
As she turned away
Said a prayer, pulled the trigger and cried
Tell me why...
Bassy bass bass
Mmhhmmm
almost 20 years love her unusual charm, beyond of time
Her we are face 2020 and real good songs still in the past.
July 2022
Still listening 2 this golden masterpiece
Lots of love from Oporto, Portugal 😘🤗
i wanna tattoo the lyric «the water soaked her blonde hair black» in my forehead
Kate Bush is still my favorite female artist. But OMG PJ Harvey comes close.
He got lucky, got lucky one time

One of her best!
Really?
Are we doing this?
"Lettuce is one of the best vegetables."
W the fuck do you even mean?
You can say any mediocre shit with exact same rhetoric.
I am surprised how no one has figuratively punched you in the head in these 3 years.
Сайн байна уу Амгаа ахаа Ямар өөр болоо вэ
really, do people do that? compare Adele with PJ Harvey? ääääh.
that kind of reminds me of the justin bieber predicament....eeeeevery where on almost every song you read something about bieber.
now Adele?
I mean Adele is really not in the same category as JB. But she also does not reach the heigths of a Polly Jean.
London Tide has made me a PJ fanatic all over again. I remember playing Is This Desire? on a loop for at least a year in the late nineties and it still sounds as fresh and exciting now as it did then 😮💨
That song is so sexy somehow
She creates such an amazing atmosphere
It was her Tori and Bjork in the early 90's She has stood the test of time. My heroine. PJ Perfection.
That's because she became more accessible, while Bjork went more experimental, and Tori went more classical. But all three are still putting of good music
what about Fiona Apple?
And Björk hasn't?
She looks perfectly beautiful in this video.
is she punk or hot housewife
I like this more than the album version
Don't know why they added so much distortion on the album version.
I prefer the album version because it's more distorted. lol
PJ Harvey is the real deal! ❤️
This song loosely references JD Salingers short story A Perfect Day for Bananafish
Angeline as well Pretty Mouth and Green my Eyes
This is so "late 90s action film noir" . I love it
she’s my lana
There's a few copy cats around but nothing souds better then the original grunge rocker PJ HARVEY
I love PJ Harvey, but there is Patti Smith before her.
Nahhh
L7??
I wonder who are those copy cats?:)
@@jonilaw3064 In terms of attitude, maybe yes. In terms of music, Patti Smith is rather boring compared to pjh. Though i love her cover of smells like teen spirit, it made me even appreciate the original :)
can't get over this song, love you PJ!!!
PJ is THE woman.
This whole album is amazing. The River in particular is perhaps one of my favourite ever PJ tracks.
this is the hottest song i’ve heard in a while, and i can’t help but imagine a story where that “elise” is a vampire and feeds on “joe”, and he grows addicted to her. also, my name is elise, sooooo >>>>>
I thought I'd hit an Analogy here in the lyrics..... but quite simply PJ is a credit to British Music! You have to go to Dorset to understand! Possibly one the UK's most underrated musician's ever!
Not part of the pop scene doesn't equal underrated ;)
the chorus is still a total killer
This is just by the top end of Heene Road in Worthing, if you look at 14 seconds in where the Burlington Hotel is, just to the left of that is where the Imperial China now is. Because you all wanted to know that.
obsessed
Maynard suggested PJ and omg I’m addicted already.
2020 and I have the entirety of her catalogue to listen to for a first time.
A Perfect Day
Oh I'm sure you're gonna love her
What did you think of her entire catalogue? Have you checked out some of her more alternative work, for example her collaboration with John Parish ‘A Woman A Man Walked By’?
Lucky you!
She has a lot of good B- side and unreleased material to seek out as well.
She Is the gueen of new shanson, the gueen of the words, sounds and unuque vision.
In case anyone was wondering, this video was shot in The Burlington hotel in Eastbourne .It's a short walk from here....
Not Eastbourne, this was shot at the Burlington Worthing...
@@UnkleLiz was definitely Worthing
pure and Awesome !!!
Beside Allison Goldfrapp, Tori Amos and Nicki she is one of the best performers I have ever seen on stage.
Listening to this mix on headphones is sooooo good!
@madeyes4u It's inspired by a short story called 'A Perfect Day For Bananafish' by J. D. Salinger however I think she has adapted it to be about a man who falls in love with a woman who's only interested in a physical relationship who can no longer take and in the end kills her. However that's just my interpretation I could be horribly wrong.
@dreamaskylar Oh, you're so lucky! *sigh* someday I'll meet her... Not to sound creepy - but was she buying food? She looks like she barely eats!
I wonder if it is about the same thing as "Down by the Water" since there is a girl underwater in the bath. i love the consciousness camera with the blurred black edges. There is a devil hiding in here, apparently, according to Kitaro Nishida at least. So it sounds to me a bit like this song is about the internalisation of the monstrous feminine.
2023
Worthing!!
Only a million views?
Sad world we live in! :(
+Renato Santos what's worse is that half of those are mine as well... :oP
I was surprised about the lack of views too. Just makes her even more special.
+Renato Santos in the world where you have great variety of music, not just PJ Harvey
+zedoc76 yeah there was
Renato Santos honestly In the world we live in I’m surprised we are even allowed to watch this
I think i found a way to play... So the chords would be Bm, Em, G and C#m7b5. Doesn't sound the worst at least.

@iLikeCookie88 She was super nice. I was having a tough time bagging her groceries and when I was done, she gave me the most heart-felt "thank you" I've ever heard someone give, along with that sincere look in her eyes. It was a really cool experience.
It's a perfect day PJ Harvey
Revisited in 2017
White sun scatters all over the sea
Sometimes I will be doing random things, and this song will pop in my head, and I have to come listen to it.
my name's elise :) :L
My fave song by PJ, and I know so much so it's significant.
Never thought of this but this song and video is really where Tori and PJ meet
Was thinking exactly the Same then saw your comment
Gorgeous true sweet perfect woman ❤️
@postnuclearjunkies
she´s cute. came into my recordstore once (in spain), bought a record: I felt a bit embarrassed to say "hey are you bla bla + wasn`t at all sure if it was her, so i said: are you playing tonight? she said: yes, are you coming too? i said: no.
I will allways regret. Never forgotten her beautifull eyes.
Reminds me of Curve (Doppelgänger) and Depeche Mode (Songs of Faith and Devotion).
Still beautiful- Oct 2022
me encanto! que sonido tan surreal , es denso y tenue a la vez
This Woman doesn't have a Grammy, and I think about that a lot!
You don't actually think the Grammys represent the peak of music excellent, do you?
well, artists have to process a submission to be qualified for a nominee. i dont think artist like PJ Harvey will make an effort for that.
This artwork just getting better by the years
@idis1abad I actually miss seeing this style of filming/atmosphere. its not so common and awesome as it was back then since every thing is more digitally set. but very classic film noir, max payne style.
from the heroin song completely drops
Heard this on Peaky Blinders and took me right back to the nineties when I had this on mini-disk. Love this song.
who be Elise?
you better not go near her .. she is mine!!
Someone please give her a Big Mac before she fades into obscurity.
Hahhaha
So "équivoque " a clip. I don't know how to translate this powerful word in english
I suspect Elise the day wasn't so perfect after all
Mrraow.
My favorite song eveeeeeer!!! 😍😍😍😍
A supernova in the age of bleak stars
@geliraubl I met her while working as a checkout girl at a supermarket. I know what you mean about her eyes. She had the most kindest, beautiful, soulful eyes ever.
