- Today, the guys and I are out mowing our Monday route, trying to beat the heat! This week's weather is pretty wild, even for Michigan, with highs in the 97s all week.
While growing our company this summer, I wanted to discuss just how expensive growth is and what my role is right now. I am trying to stay busy selling landscape jobs while also keeping up on office work for payroll and fueling growth!

Thank you for the support! And as always, thank you for watching.
How are you guys beating the heat?!
Starting earlier in the morning than normal.
Those cooling towels are actually really good.
We are staying ahead of the heat by following our safety protocals. Staying hydrated, taking more breaks, shortening our days, and making sure we are eating and drinking healthy.
We got up at 5 a.m. worked until 12 said nope try again tomorrow no sense in pushing your guys to heat exhaustion then there down an extra day or so weekend looks good so we are able to go that route....Your employees are your most valuable asset why beat them down if not necessary is my look at it
Holla from Western PA...I wear white cutoff tees and white sunblocker shirts. Stocked Yeti cooler with lots of water, sports drinks, and Black Rifle coffees. Try and hit the sunny places in the morning and the woodsy properties in the afternoon.
Stay cool people
Plenty of water. I also pace myself, I will be 72 in a month and found it better to work smarter not harder. Little things like carrying trimmer string in my pocket to avoid walking back to the truck and filling all gas tanks in the morning makes a day easier.
Much respect @72✌️
Stay hydrated, Gatorade 💪. Know the signs of heat stroke and heat exhaustion! Know CPR if possible. Dont rush through yards. Take your time with breaks in the shade. Heat stroke and exhaustion is no joke which will lead to cardiac arrest. Brian knows how to take care of his guys, this is for the others on here.
Amen and amenb
Amen and amen!
Yes, hide in the shade and take a break.
Drink more water than the chemistry set known as Gatorade 😅
@@jamiegwhite30hide in the shade and take a break , i don't think that's allowed in landscaping companies, you should go as fast as you can , move fast , don't take in mind the weather, keep moving fast cause time is money , Boss is always calling , where you at ? You still there wtf , you are taking a lot of time doing that s** , get a move on and go to the next job , no time for breaks when cutting lawns
I also use the Ballard chute blocker, as an owner and the single machine operator at the moment… I haven’t yet broke my chute system, but I have had a few close calls. It’s a great system that could use an update/refresh and could use different operating settings opposed to only up and down (and it would be nice if it lifted up higher
My birthday is June 10!!! How neat! I turned 62 last Monday. Happy belated Brian!
Keep pushing brother god bless
I use a lazer z 72 inch, it has 5k plus hours and it still runs really good!! But we mow round year, I live in south texas.
I’ve got a new EBZ9000, Thing is a beast when it comes to cleanups, but for an everyday mowing blower, or just general use, The thing is just stupid bulky. We run all ECHO 9010s. but i decided to pick up a new 9000 just to give it a shot. I’ll definitely grab another before fall.
Good feedback sir! Thank you!
its in the hundreds down here in Houston.
Exmark makes a 72 inch!!!! I think I would have bought one of those instead of the used 72 inch Spartan! Down here in Illinois we have had no rain in a 2 week period. I did not mow any city property last week and probably not much this coming week..
Artic are good. Started by the partner of yeti, went on his own after disagreement.
I understand the heat and humidity. How it affects your crews. That said; what type and weight of engine oil do you use in your equipment? I realize that air cooled ( actually; oil cooled engines) run extremely hot compared to car/truck engines. So, that makes oil even more important.
Staring tomorrow here in Grand Rapids mowing the first commercial property at 6:00am
Happy birthday to you two. My anniversary is on June 20th too (10 years this year!)
Lots of fluids and pace yourself.
Hey don't forget to move that gas rack away from that trimmer. (safety sally...Lol.)
Aside from heat stress from my neighbors window reflecting the sunlight in a rectangular patch on my zoysia,I just discovered that there is gravel and rock about 2 inches below my zoysia where it’s been turning yellow for the past two years I’m guessing because of the heat that heats up the rock takes away the moisture in the grass area is about 6‘ x 6‘ area. What’s the best way of trying to get the gravel dug out from under it without destroying my yard?
Drinking lots of water and taking breaks as needed and working at an easy steady pace and we are cutting sites only once no double cutting and finally doing detail work edging and pulling weeds etc.
Also that Exmark Vertex X Series 72inch making those clean crisp no straggle grass lines🔥
@@calebtworek4547 Is it hard to turn?
@@jamiegwhite30 well I don’t have that mower so I can’t answer that question but I did demo a 60inch Exmark Vertex X Series at Weingartz in Farmington Hills and I thought it wasn’t hard to turn at all
@@calebtworek4547 Thanks, I work in a small village setting with big estates on the outskirts. We have like 175 accounts with 6 people.. always looking of angles, lol
and vent the mixed gas can before you fill the trimmer,,, lol
Brian, why is Robb not wearing a hat? Just noticed the picture.. that’s something I have to have in the Summer..
He usually does, dunno why at this time.
You stand up all day not us from push to stand on great but from stand on to sitting no comparison luck of the Irish lawn care
Rob lookin slick with the new cut 💯
Glow up 💯
Here in Tennessee we got 5 inches of rain in 20 minutes that was alot of rain couldn't see 30 feet in front of you
Hsha, there NO cutting now. The grass is brown STRAW
Summer isn't even here yet! Still says spring on the calendar!
happy birthday to you both!
Keep the Laser Z
Coconut water has been working well this season
I get my bagger for my vertex 52 put on tomorrow im super stoked i was told middle of may just got word it was in monday wahoo
Dude, awesome!
I wouldn’t want all my machines with low hours at the same time. I’d want them offset so they do not all have to be replaced at the same time in a couple of years. Same with my vehicles - I like to have a new one and an older one, so they do not have to be replaced at the same time or close to the same time
We need rain so bad in Michigan. Only ~10% of our clients have their sprinklers running, which is weird because last year we had a problem with them over-watering. Just can't win lol
I'm buying one soon soon as it come out I'm in Livonia you can just come get mine for RUclips
Must be alot of blowing down hours on those standers 😉
Love the content.
Clever night 25
I swear i thought I was watching B is for Build.. both you guys sound so simimlar.
Same weather system here just north of Toronto 😅
Hi buddy, I'm from Melbourne. Have you guys looked at 12v fridges set up in the trailers to save chasing ice
How is he wearing that long sleeve shirt dang.
Polyester wicking shirts. They’re amazing to keep the sun and grease off you. All we’ve worn for years.
Here in WI were in the same boat! Hey Brian how are your mowers doing with all the high precipitation we've been having? Do yous find yourself double cutting areas at all or maybe running mulching blades? I find myself having to double cut areas where the grass is very thick and wet!
It’s a balancing act for sure. Some lawns little to no time bc they’re dry, others require double cuts. Just part of the business unfortunately!
Just curious, how do your guys wear those long sleeves in the hot weather? Don’t they get overheated? Love your channel!
Not at all! Polyester, they breathe great and anything to keep the sun off your skin is a win!
You dry out a lot faster and overheat with a t-shirt vs longsleeve. Sunscreen only helps so much.
Wear white clothes, or as close as you can. and sunscreen.
Ouch, that's hot!
Hey Brian! Just wanted to let you know your spring website for the merch isn't working
Yeah thanks man. Someone mentioned that a few weeks ago. I guess they switched how the platform fulfills t shirts. Anywho, I guess I have to update some new designs!

What blower racks are you using?
Equipment Defender for life. Brians10 saves 10% brother, thanks for the support.
I’m using exmark equipment. I’m not a professional. I cut a few yards for widow and divorced ladies. My question is what is your opinion on exmark parts versus aftermarket parts from amazon. The price difference is unbelievable but would I be giving up quality to save money. Thanks for the videos.
If I was given the money to spend on an $800 blower, I absolutely would not. I would reinvest it back in the business elsewhere. I'm sticking with my 6 and 800 STIHL and my Echoes.
Precisely
is ur business in Michigan
do you commercial properties?
Oh yeah, quite a few!
Yo rob got a haircut!!
…leave the gun, take the new mower 👉🏼👈🏼
Clever night 25
Nothing tests a technicians level of give a fuck like 97°
The heat is ON! Same here in the South. You guys stay hydrated and cool.
Calm part 72
Pffft, increase productivity with another 72 ( 20% more productivity than the 60, and why not run them on your larger resi's ), AND the Redmax 9000. I dunno, if Echo doesn't respond quick enough, Redmax might win me back with that one....although I recently bought another handblower for grass.
You guy’s please keep yourselves hydrated. Don’t want you dropping from heat exhaustion. Glad you had some downtime with your family Brian. Happy belated Birthday!!!🥳🎉🎂🎈🎊 The properties looked great today everyone. Hope you get some rain, to green up the grass some. Stay safe, healthy, happy, productive,& blessed.💯👍🏾😀🫶🏾💜✝️🙏🏾🇺🇸
Thank you Glenda!
