I was recently able to ask him a question that was burning in my mind since I had watched and reacted to his Questions and Confessions #3. It was so cool! If you want to do anything Max let me know it would be sick to interview you.
    Full Question in Writing:
You are on your deathbed. In your final 15 minutes of life, death comes to your bedside and makes you an offer.
“Max, you have lived to the ripe age of 75. Throughout your life you have produced work that has benefited the world and overall has helped the entire planet become a more empathetic place. For all intents and purposes your life goal has been achieved.
In exchange for all of the outcomes of this work, memories, experiences, benefits and even the benefits experienced by others that came from these works, I can extend your life back by an equal amount of time that it took to create these works.”
    Will you accept this exchange?

holy shit i remember watching this live on a long fucking drive to bumfuck pennsylvania (rip therapist mrgirl) it’s so weird seeing the other side of this i just pictured u in a dark room scratching ur chin i was like 75% right. i agree with the creative lense thing and enjoying the work of it, if ur creative that’s kind of the entire point, like a limitless potential in the process, finishing the work is usually kind of bittersweet

9:30: Of course the answer is yes, but it's an irrelevant hypothetical.
13:40: (EDIT) Lol just watched the rest and I was completely wrong. Props to you for confonting Max and exposing him (and my assumptions!) lol. I'd offer my works to get back my time back any day and I think so would everyone on the planet would (I'm even an artist). Pretty disingenuous. Why does he say "15 more minutes"? That's likely 10 years of additional life.

I am confused by this comment, so do you give up the work for more time or now? And I would not classify this as exposing Max haha just wanted to see if he was being 100% logically consistent.

@@willandhischannel If I get 10 more years of life?? Hell yeah! Every time. My works are only relevant to other people so why would I care if I would be dead otherwise?
As for the "exposing Max", I agree, my bad - it was a good talk and I posted too early before listening to the entire thing.

Interesting. I’ve been really thinking about it a lot since our talk and I’m still 100% convinced I would rather have my stuff still exist and the effects of it regardless of getting 15-30 years extra life. Could be hard core denial but I don’t think so.

the '15 minutes' he was talking about were the 15 minutes of life he would have if he refused the deal. the 15 minutes of remembering his art and its impact before he dies.

4:47 - it's interesting to see you argue against the guest's experiences by saying he's not a creative person because he's not enjoying the process, and that he needs a backbone. That's one hell of a way to address someone who's struggling with something you find simple. You see as an "other", he's not creative enough, not an artist. It's dismissal.
It sounds like he has unrealistic expectations, and he just needs to get in the habit of creating, like mrgirl says, and he'll eventually become a decent guitar player or whatever he wants to do. You should listen to mrgirl once more, and compare that to what you just said.
From your phrasing it sounds like you think of yourself as a creative person, that it's easy. What's the big deal? Just be a creative person, get a back bone. You sound like a child.
Here's my query to you. Do you think, with effort, people can learn new skills and change their level of creativity over time?

    • @willandhischannel
      @willandhischannel  2 года назад

Yes I think that people can learn new skills and become more creative over time. Being creative in itself is a separate skill apart for being skillful at guitar.
I think my main point is that most people are going to hit a cap in any given skill if they don’t inherently enjoy the process of acquiring the skill, and it seems like this guy has an unrealistic expectation of his end skill and also just doesn’t enjoy practicing guitar.
I think the caller should try something that sparks his interest a little bit harder.

Right? It seems like you really need to have your mind right though because the stuff he says really makes you question your core ideas about yourself.
