Animals in France and Norway while you Sleep

Guitar & flute by me, inspired by an old Welsh lullaby.
The English title of the song is Dinogad's Smock (v. Cloak), the lyrics are from 5-11th century. It could have been written around the 18th century, in a book made in a Welsh monastery (Book of Aneirin). The original tune is lost, this is a reconstruction by a folk trio called Ffynnon.
Dinogad is an infant whose father died and left him a valuable cowhide cloak. It is wrapped in this, this is the titular piece of clothing. The mother is the narrator, so the song is both lulling and mournful.
First we hear a description of the cloak, then a list of the various animals the father killed, and finally the hunter's skills and wealth.
The poem provides an insight into the Celtic culture and fauna of early medieval northern England and southern Scotland, as well as the peculiarities of the extinct Cumbric language. It also provides evidence of the late survival of the Eurasian lynx in Britain.
I made this video because I want to give you the comforting feeling when I'm watching animals or they're watching me.

A dal angol címe Dinogad's Smock (v. Cloak), szövege az 5-11. század környékén íródhatott, és egy walesi kolostorban készült könyvben (Book of Aneirin) olvasható. Az eredeti dallam elveszett, ez a Ffynnon nevű folktrió rekonstrukciója.
Dinogad egy csecsemő, akinek apja meghalt, és egy értékes nyestbőr köpenyt hagyott rá. Ebbe van bebugyolálva, ez a címadó ruhadarab. Az anya a narrátor, így az ének egyszerre altató és sirató is.
Először a köpeny leírását halljuk, majd a különböző állatok felsorolását, amiket az apa elejtett, végül a vadász ügyességének és gazdagságának dicséretét.
