I love Wave Race. One of my all time favorite games. Thank you for taking the time to post this tutorial. I never knew about tapping B in all the years I've been playing, smh!
I have a full playlist of video tutorials from simple to advanced even featuring high level tutorials from the best player in the world, Shibbypod. Check out those other tutorials and speedrun.com/wr64 for the world’s fastest time trial runs. Glad you enjoyed my video and I hope you will check out my other tutorials to find out more things you never know.
If you think this is heavy I have a whole series of videos going into much greater detail about how to improve if you are interested Here's a link; glad you enjoyed learning about it ruclips.net/video/XMqwyLqQlZg/видео.html
I watched your tutorials for the first time last night, after buying Wave Race again after all these years. Tonight I’ve just beaten my course and lap record (by 2 seconds each) on Sunny Beach using techniques you advised - thanks man!
Glad you found my videos useful, if you want live help/advise be sure to drop in the wave race 64 community discord to chat with all the pros. link in video description. Thanks for letting me know I love hearing that these help people.
GhillieGuide Ok cool, I’ll keep hitting the track over the weekend and see if I can make further improvement. Currently on 1’19”716 for the course (dropped 10 seconds since seeing your videos) and 25”497 for my lap. I know I need to hit the first corner tighter and then come out straight for the run past the markers without adjusting.
I have all my tutorials ordered into a playlist with lots of videos if you were not aware, then you can pick out which tutorials/courses you want to learn. here's a link: ruclips.net/p/PLlAkSmzMhm7piZCN5zWp0RjKQEpRUnZRY
GhillieGuide I’m really stumped. I can’t get my lap 1 below 28 seconds and my other lap below 25 seconds. I’m getting max power starts and using B button taps. I don’t seem to be able to keep speed after turn one. Any advice?
bigburty's Toy Showcasing & Reviews maintenance of momentum for the turn depends heavily on how much you minimize the inputs to turn. It takes a lot of practice to master. A good idea is to check out the runs around your goal time on speedrun.com/wr64 and see what they do. Make sure to make the turn light except at the peak of the turn. Good Luck
I know this is an old video now, but it was so interesting to learn how this all works and also confirm a lot of what i thought was true just from playing
Thanks for this. Was pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to make that sharp turn in glacier peak, but what I had to do was pull back on the stick while turning right so I don't skid off the ice. I wish the Nintendo switch online expansion had instructions, I just brute forces normal & hard & abused save states for expert just to learn the tight turns. Wanted to unlock all the stages for multiplayer to play with friends, but I don't think they'll like the harder courses that I unlocked.
i recently downloaded an emu and rom to play this game that i hadnt played since childhood - i noticed right away that this game is much more complex than just a "kids game". esp for the time it was released. the wave simulation is crazy for an n64 "kids game". this is why this game is still playable to this day. no quicktime events that take you by the hand. figure it out and practice, practice, practice.
The upclose view is really only needed if you are trying to compete with others, at that point you have the buoy positions memorized to the point this isn’t a problem :)
Thank you so much for your helpful Videos. I played yesterday for the first Time Wave Race and i am over the Moon 😃 i even would be already at the End of the Rankings 😬 I'm really looking forward to improve 😍🎮
Appreciate it, idk if I skipped it in the past and just watched the first part of the video or what. Gonna give this game one last try. I used to not like diddy Kong racing until I learned how to play and started tapping a, skidding with r I believe, letting go of a on the zip line. I wanna beat my friends on switch lol
Do the different characters come with inherent differences? From the smallest to the largest, do they always have a difference or does the custom tab control everything? Thanks
They all handle differently and have different potentials; the custom tab just shifts them within their already different potentials In Short: Hayami is the easiest and smooth riding with the highest speed without any power Stewart has fast turning but very low top speed Jeter has fast turning and high jumping with a higher top speed than the two previous Mariner is the fastest by far but struggles to corner quickly or jump and land as cleanly; the best choice for learning and improving times on most courses Here's the current champion shibbypod's guide that's a good reference www.speedrun.com/wr64/thread/pcj79
@@GhillieGuide thank you. I ended up finding a link that worked. Your videos are extremely helpful with basic techniques. I haven't watched all of them yet. Very good stuff. U ever play pilot wings 64?
@@BigMacOrange Hey there I have played it not a large amount and never done a time trial of it Right now I am playing ExciteBike 64 it's very similar to Wave Race, also worth mentioning Polaris Snocross that's currently my favorite racer on N64(like excitebike but I like the physics more) Thanks for letting me know you found them helpful nice that these are still helping people learn and get into it
its a shame the switch online version suffers from the same issues F-zero does. Does any one know if the controls feel better with a pro controller? The joy cons are awful for racing games. cant make any micro adjustments

I guess it's never too late but only just started to pick up the N64 controller up again and trying to give this a shot. Thanks for the guides!
Thank you. This helped a lot. I should be able to break several personal bests with that B button tap.

I am glad you found it useful :)
With the zoomed in camera, my character obstructs my view making it harder to maneuver around oncoming buoys

Interestingly, the D.Mariner was renamed to Lee in the PAL version, which is the version I have.
Really? Im from Germany and therefore in PAL Region. He is called D.Mariner in my original Game from the 90s.🤔
U can rename the players, maybe that was done? Is it lee in 2-player vs as well?

isn't there a tutorial in game for the tricks ???!?
Had to come back after getting whooped online, my sharp turning was trash so I’m gonna try to do it diagonally down thanks

Yo! Is that an authentic 64 controller or did you kit bash some colors together? Either way it looks dope.
Banana Yellow Top Shell + Jungle Green Bottom Shell

No way man a purple controller would be better dude. And I think that riding dolphins is against animal freedom policy's yeo. Crazy world.
Over here trying to learn up after getting roasted on NSO 🤣
